Despite some truly obtrusive load times and a script littered with grammatical errors, Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs manages to carry itself relatively well thanks to a unique approach to turn-based strategy and a relatively charming cast.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs - Royal Edition will grab the player's attention thanks to its plot and marvelous humour featured throughout the game, reinforced by the marvelous voice acting and visuals. Unfortunately its combat system does not follow suit and the experience ends up being less accessible and enjoyable than it should, aggravated by immensely long loading times.

There are a few notable shortcomings; however, being able to adjust gameplay settings on the fly makes this a game that can be enjoyed by veterans and newcomers alike.

Overall, Regalia is a deep game with a lot to do, but it’s also a game that is hard, especially as players learn the ropes early on. It’s also a game with some design issues that lessen the experience, and between those and the long, frequent load times, it’s a game that can wear out its welcome. Those are things to keep in mind before foraging into this adventure.

Apart from the onerous loading times that could alienate a few, the chemistry of blending time management with a complex and engaging battle system while tying it altogether with an engaging story and brilliant voice acting is an achievement that has eluded large development teams with years of game creation experience. I wholly recommend Regalia to fans who enjoy RPGs and I will be the first to put my hand up for the review of the next game this developer comes up with.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs - Royal Edition is a mixed bag of an adventure. It is worth a visit but performance issues and dull gameplay mean it may not be worth a stay.

With 30 hours of massive game play, lots of playable characters, rich post game and nicely crafted scenarios, it will take weeks for the player to enjoy it to the fullest.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Regalia is a great game. It has everything you could ask for from a strategy RPG and then some. Unfortunately, it has a few technical and design issues that really hold it back from being as good as it could be, but it’s still hard not to recommend it.

The fighting strikes a nice balance between easy to learn with being complex enough to make winning a fight satisfying. I still wish there was something like a defend stance and something like class customisation, but on the whole I think the streamlining of attacking being combined with skills was fun.

The UI is the worst part, though. It's really hard at times to tell what's highlighted, and not having the hover on the combat UI made it harder to learn what did what.

I found the loading screens to be annoying more because there were so many, not because each one was so long. If there was more to interact with in each area, especially in the personal bond quests, I don't think it would be as noticeable.
