Vostok Inc. is a casual game for a hardcore audience and a hardcore game for a casual audience. The premise is that you're a corrupt, narcissistic yuppie, out to make as much money as possible. Think the Wolf of Wall Street... in Space.

It's a twin stick shooter for the modern age, an age where audiences are limited by time and want to be able to play when they want, how they want, and on whatever devices they want. Want to play on console whilst sitting on the sofa? Sure. Fancy a quick game on handheld whilst on the bus? Go ahead. Want the game to reward you whilst it's playing itself, on your mobile whilst at work? Don't let us stop you!

The introduction of an idle clicker metagame into an already brilliant and satisfying second-to-second experience adds a whole extra dimension to the genre. Not to mention it makes the game more addictive than crack once you get going.

Of course no Nosebleed Interactive game would be complete without the extra bells and whistles, so as well as an adaptive audio system (which you can remix to your heart's content) we've also got 13 minigames (including an FPS), Tamagotchi style virtual pets (or in our case, a Virtual Executives), and a massive suite of ship and weapon upgrades to unlock and mess about with.

Vostok Inc. takes the cookie clicker genre, often played with a fleeting attention span, and spins it into an experience that you can't put down. The amount of different spinning plates to consider when constructing your capitalist, galactic empire is a challenge that is only made more satisfying by the pleasing music, graphics and varying space combat. It's a great game.

Vostok Inc’s blend of money-generating ‘clicker’ gameplay and frantic twin-stick shooter action works well; as you find yourself getting to grips with the necessary procedures and start to have a system in place, you’ll find an increasing amount of fun in the game’s upgrade systems, combat, and exploration. Unfortunately, this fun reaches a peak around halfway through your adventure as you realise that you’re spending an awful lot of time doing the exact same things over and over again. Vostok Inc is a good game that will definitely provide you with several hours of enjoyment and, if you like the sound of its mixed genre, we’d encourage you to try it out – just make sure you’re ready to follow similar tasks for a long time if you do.

    A very artistically inspired title.

The limitation to Vostok Inc. is that once it stops being funny to you, the warts show. Seeing your mild-mannered business associate argue with aliens is very funny, until it starts getting old. When that happens, the smile-worthy sheen of the blending of shoot-’em-up and clicker starts to fade, revealing that Vostok Inc. doesn’t really do either that well. Charm can only go so far, and unfortunately, the charm here doesn’t hide the repetitive, stale gameplay.

If the idea of bringing these two styles together is something to praise, it doesn't feel like a gratifying experience and it ends up becoming too repetitive once the novelty factor wears off.

Vostok Inc. is pretty good, but the grind does become frustrating; however, it’s easier to put in short periods of time on the go, eventually leading you to amass that huge galactic empire, so the Switch is a very suitable host.

Vostok Inc. is something of an oddity. It offers some competent shooter mechanics dressed up with some playful satire, unique concepts, and plenty of gameplay for those who seek it. But the overall experience feels lacking, uneventful, and repetitive, especially when it comes to the click-fest sim components.

I created an account just to put this review up, the switch store is littered with shovel-ware at the moment and it's hard to work out what's worth the time with a lack of official reviews from trusted sites on these smaller titles and no internal rating system. Combine that with these try hard reviewers from these middling sites trying to make a name for themselves and it's easy to be dismissive of anything not made by an established developer.

Everything this game does it does well, the design, art, music and writing are fantastic.
Expect a little bit of a grind - that's what this game is, it incorporates design elements of a 'clicker' a genre that is openly and unashamedly labelled as 'time waster'. So get over that fact and enjoy this game for what it is, fun, addictive and suprisingly varied in it's systems.

There are mini games and spaceships to unlock, weapon customization that keeps things fun and fresh and a variety of enemies throughout different levels, the writing is a delight.

This game is a perfect fit for the portable nature of the switch but If you still aren't sure, i'd encourage you to try the demo.

It's 80's art style makes it stand out against other indie titles that tend to go towards a pixelated art style, which I think is oversaturated the indie market. It's first few hours are so fun to play! You are making progress, exploiting new worlds and making tons of Moolah. However, the game quickly becomes a grind that does a poor job of guiding the player through that grind and bringing them out the other side. It took me over 20 hours to beat this game! I'd say half of those hours was spent wasting time, destroying asteroids to keep my managers happy and waiting for my Moolah to go up. If the game was over in 10 hours I would have left feeling I got a return on my investment. However, the grind made me feel like Vostok Inc was a chore or a job, something I had to chip away at to finally reach the end.
