A fantastic new arcade game in the best traditions of Treasure, that takes plenty of inspiration from older classics but has just as many new ideas of its own.

Treasure-like in its level of sheer ingenuity, Dakko Dakko's Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails is the sort of addictive shooter that is a must-own for Wii U owners and belies its initially brief appearance in the length stakes.

Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails, with its strange design and riveting gameplay, echoes this side of the feline personality, too. Captivating stuff.
  4. As fun as it is tough and cute to boot, there's nothing else quite like Scram Kitty And His Buddy On Rails on Wii U, or anywhere else, for that matter. [May 2014, p.76]

Scram Kitty and His Buddy on Rails is quite an engaging game, but you need to learn it to fully understand it.

Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails is a truly original game that obviously required a great deal of thought, passion and creativity, something I really don’t get to say nearly enough.

Even though it might look like yet another indie game, this one is fun, addictive, original and difficult. A title you should at least try if you like platformers.

It’s smartly designed, and while I wish there were more modes, what’s there is definitely worth experiencing.

Those who frustrate easily should avoid this title unless they really want to risk damaging their GamePads, but for those who love a good challenge, this title is worth checking out.

It is difficult and the player is treated in a crude way, but the level of satisfaction when we completed each of his terrifying levels compensated for all the suffering and frustration experienced.

Scram Kitty seems extremely accessible, but the difficulty rises considerably after a few levels. Take your time and learn to deal with the unique controls, and Scram Kitty is one of the better eShop games that you can download for your Wii U.

A very original and bizarre game. It's got some camera issues, but it's fun, original and challenging.

If you want to have a lovely gaming experience where you get fluffy kitties for free, plug Animal Crossing back into your 3DS; however, If you want to yell, spit, grow chest hair and really EARN your fluffy kitties, buy Scram Kitty and His Rail Buddies, as the game is surprisingly addictive as it is rage inducing and fun all at the same time.

Come to terms with its idiosyncrasies and you’ll find a unique and wonderfully characterful action game; it’s well worth suffering those early scratches for the moments where it really begins to purr.

A wonderfully idiosyncratic creation that, despite its smorgasbord of influences, feels like nothing else.

Fun and clever in the first hours, Scram Kitty does not fall in the long term, but its shooter approach soon becomes more a burden to level design than a true quality gameplay symbol.

It is fresh, it is novel, it is aesthetically pleasing, it has simple controls, it has simple mechanics, it is easy to pick up, it is impossible to master, it is fun, it is frustrating, it is satisfying when you complete a level, it has a high skill ceiling. This is gaming as I remember from my childhood.

The game itself features a cat that rolls around on rails. The levels are almost like sandbox 2D; you can go anywhere in the level, the purpose being to find the missing cats. One is near the exit already, one has to be chased around the level making an interesting obstacle course each time, one only appears after you collect all the 'coins', and the last one only appears after you kill the boss, and that only appears after you kill all the other enemies in the level. Each level is completely packed with stuff to do, and each level will require skill to finish to completion. The movement is novel, making it all the more enjoyable. Combat is reminiscent of old arcade blasters like R-Type.

The game is fully recommended. The best indie title I've played in a long time. Easily stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Bastion and Mark Of The Ninja, even if they do all fill different niches.

However, after downloading the game, I can honestly say that I'm disappointed. It's very unique and I'll give credit where credit is due. The graphics are fine. The characters are really cool. The idea of the game play is awesome. Where I run into problems is the controls. It's almost like the developer made the controls clunky on purpose to add to the difficulty but all I get out of it is frustration. In fact, I get so frustrated at the controls that I don't want to play it anymore despite it's good qualities. Maybe they'll do a sequel and fix the controls and game play. Full Review »
