From the action-packed intro to its ultimate conclusion, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is bursting at the seams with "win" material.
-
The controls are superb, proof that the Wii remote and nunchuk are more than viable for first-person action. Motions that call for Samus to throw a whip or turn an airlock hatch add visceral kick and never seem to get old.
-
If you're a fan of Metroid, then this should be the easiest decision in the world to make. Buy this game and savor every last drop.
-
Nintendo PowerThe stunning visuals and immersive gameplay of the finale to the Prime series proves that the Wii is ready for the mainstream gamer. [Oct 2007, p.86]
-
While most shooters transport players inside a character's head, Corruption throws players inside the entire suit by giving the complex Samus realistic controls.
-
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption overcomes its small flaws with an adventure that will keep any gamer captivated from start to finish.
-
Its incredible controls and even gameplay really elevate the franchise to new levels.
-
The original "Metroid Prime" is one of the highest-rated games in existence, but Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is easily superior. It’s far less frustrating, and more action packed, while managing to redefine console shooting controls in the process.
-
The graphics, the level design, the boss battles, the controls, and the fun are the stuff of legends. Retro Studios has helped validate Nintendo's console by creating a masterpiece so early in its lifecycle.
-
A true gamer's game, a lovingly crafted science-fiction magnum opus, a showcase title not only for excellent motion controls but also stunning artwork that rivals anything in gaming.
-
Now that Prime 3 is at our disposal, it is quite safe to say that Wii has an official flagship title that was built from the ground up to take advantage of the Wii’s control scheme and graphical capabilities.
-
netjakThis is a must-own, must-experience title for the Wii, a hardcore offering that sets the bar for first-person shooters on the console high and should be looked to as the new standard.
-
Not only do the new controls respond quicker and with more precision than any dual-analog-helmed FPS ever created, but the gesture system works brilliantly, too. Meanwhile, the title delivers everything a Metroid fan could hope for, including spectacular environmental puzzles, epic boss fights and intense combat, all wrapped up in a package that spans multiple worlds and is filled with re-traversal exploration.
-
Corruption isn’t just the best-looking Wii game to date; it’s the best Metroid Prime game period. This is due in large part to the fluid controls. The highly debated, stubborn lock-on aiming system has been replaced with something far better. You can finally look around while moving by aiming the Wii remote.
-
An amazing game. It's almost perfect, and while a few things do pull it back from being that, it's still everything we've been waiting for from the Wii, wrapped in a nice fifty dollar package.
-
If you own a Wii, you have to own Corruption. If you don’t own a Wii, this is a convincing reason you might want to think about buying one.
-
Official Nintendo Magazine UKThe Prime trilogy couldn't have gone out on a higher note. [Nov 2007, p.74]
-
Like Zelda Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3 should be picked up by every Wii owner, even if you didn’t play the other Prime games.
-
Games Master UKAn instant classic that proves the Wii can do 'serious' games with serious aplomb. [Nov 2007, p.70]
-
The most immersive Metroid yet with the best console FPS setup we've ever used. But maybe the formula's been tinkered too much.
-
Proof that not all sequels are quick attempts to cash in; Corruption takes the already outstanding formula of the previous games and retools it into one of the most solid and rewarding experiences in years.
-
The great controls, amazing size and scope and incredible music are just a few elements that should get you hooked into the game.
-
Nintendo GamerRetro take everything they've learnt over the last two games, strip out all the bad bits, and deliver a nigh-on perfect Metroid experience. And the controls are just magical. [Nov 2007, p.32]
-
The campaign in itself offers a good deal of play time, but in a flash of brilliance, the developers also added unlockables, which can only be purchased by completing certain goals in the game (scanning objects, etc) and getting currency. These range from simple art books, to playback options for the game’s epic musical score, or even cool little novelties like bumper stickers for Samus’ ship (which I’m still working up to try and purchase).
-
It makes the strongest argument yet for bringing over this style of gameplay to the motion control set up, and does a good job of washing out the horrible taste that titles like Red Steel and Far Cry might have left for early Wii adopters.
-
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is by far one of the most enjoyable games to grace the Nintendo Wii to date.
-
If you consider yourself a gamer, then drop the pretenses of the Wii being a kiddie machine, get off your HD loving ass and pick this up. Samus needs you, and I'm sure all you prepubescent young lads don't want to let her down now do you?
-
AceGamezThe Wii's best game - by far.
-
You should play Metroid Prime 3: Corruption to experince one of the best games available on Wii and one of the top games 2007 has produced (to date).
-
Play MagazineInstead, the developers have wrapped up the Metroid Prime trilogy by taking everything that past installments did well and doing it ever-so-slightly better. [Oct 2007, p.83]
-
When it comes down to it, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption can best be described as the sci-fi, first-person shooting equivalent of The Legend of Zelda series.
-
games(TM)The Metroid series is in need of an overhaul before it steps out onto the Wii again. But for now, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption represents a triumphant last hurrah for what has been a consistently excellent series. [Nov 2007, p.116]
-
Immersive, engaging and with the kind of gameplay depth that so many shooters lack, Metroid Prime 3 might not represent a huge progression as far as the series goes, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the best games I've played all year - and certainly one of best yet on the Wii.
-
In the end, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption may not be the most groundbreaking title of the franchise but it does warrant a fantastic conclusion that I don't think any Wii owner or Metroid fan can afford to miss.
-
The streamlined, pin-point accurate controls set a new precedent for first-person games on the Wii, and the game itself will keep you busy for more than a few weekends with its excellent achievement-like reward system and lengthy quest that easily took us 20 hours to collect every item, scan every object and obtain the best ending.
-
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is an essential purchase for Wii owners which finally shows what the Wii is capable of, not only technically but in regards to control too.
-
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is an expansion of its predecessors, and it builds on their legacy in every aspect.
-
Overall, MP3 is an out and out stunner. The game is epic in scale, drenched in quality and care, and some sequences - such as the initial freefall fight against Ridley - are inspired.
-
Maxi Consolas (Portugal)The excellent control system is not the only virtue of Retro Studios. The brilliant level design and the absence of any technical flaw makes Metroid Prime 3 a Wii masterpiece. [Nov 2007]
-
Corruption provides great first-person controls and really takes advantage of the Wii's unique controller setup.
-
On the whole, Corruption takes advantage of the Wii's biggest strength (with its unique controls), and minimizes its greatest weakness (through astounding art direction), while otherwise maintaining or improving upon the high standards and overall polish the series is known for.
-
Instead of blazing through the galaxy using a more traditional game controller, tackle enormous bosses and solve head-scratching puzzles using the Wii's remote and nunchuk. The experience is nothing short of extraordinary.
-
Even with its great new controls, decent story and amazing visuals, there are some annoyances that have bled through from the other games...The biggest offender is the way the game streams new levels.
-
Metroid Prime 3 falls into the same category as "Twilight Princess" - the ultimate achievement of the series, yet in desperate need of an evolution.
-
The new controls allow for precision aiming once you get some practice with the Wii Remote, to the point where you need to lock on only rarely. It lets you spend more time immersed in the worlds and the boss fights will really get you pumped up.
-
The straightforward nature of the game certainly doesn't hurt the final product, nor to the great Wii controls.
-
Recommended for acolytes and lay-persons alike.
-
There's more than just running and gunning, too. Sometimes you'll have to solve puzzles, while other levels are more of a carnival shooting gallery. The overall experience is one of exploration, puzzle-solving and action that kept me wanting to push farther.
-
It’s hard to really dislike Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for being so similar to the other games in the series – it’s just disappointing that Retro Studios didn’t try anything new.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyStill, it's a solid end to the Prime trilogy. [Nov 2007, p.98]
-
Pelit (Finland)Stays true to its roots. The new Wii control system works wonderfully, but there is nothing significantly new and some of the tranquillity of the past games has been lost. It is still a good game and a definitive must-have for Wii owners. [Oct 2007]
-
Even with a low difficulty level, lackluster story and flawed unlockables, Metroid Prime 3 is certainly a must-play for Wii owners.
-
It's got exactly what you would expect from the last in an acclaimed trilogy of titles: great boss battles, involved environmental puzzles, and a smooth control scheme that cements exactly how FPS controls should work on the platform...While the lack of multiplayer is disappointing, the single-player campaign won't leave you wanting.
-
While the game isn't littered with NPCs, there's a lot of interaction with fellow bounty hunters and objectives given from outside sources. It seems like this and the multi-planet settings were both added to make the game feel more like an action-adventure than an adventure-action title, which is a shame since it flies in the face of what made Metroid one of the best franchises in gaming.
-
The storytelling is just one not-so-great addition they’ve made in a series of other great additions, like the spot-on implementation of the Wii controls. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption blossoms into a fun, massive game with a tiny bit of heart, and if this is the high note in the trilogy it is a perfectly agreeable conclusion.
-
Minor issues with the presentation and level design prevent it from achieving its full potential, yet it's still an enjoyable experience.
-
Ultimately, it is still Metroid Prime, with most of the strengths intact - a brilliant 3D world with impeccable design, attention to detail and amazing production values. For all the little faults you could level at it, it's one of the best games available for the Wii.
-
Unlike another FPS franchise that has recently finished, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a flagship title not only for its recipient platform, but for the genre at large. Taking the formula that cemented the Prime series as one of the best on GameCube, Retro has managed to integrate a motion control system that befits Wii - a shining beacon for others to follow.
-
If you consider the competition games like "BioShock" and "Gears of War," Metroid is going to feel stilted and oddly paced. But if you're a fan of the long-running series, you'll probably be pleased how well this game fits into the canon, both in terms of gameplay and story.
-
Edge MagazineMasterful controls aside, Corruption sees Retro lost for a while, like Samus, down some mystifying and convoluted dead-end of its own making, populating a universe that should have stayed desolate and dead. [Nov 2007, p.84]
-
There is no denying that Corruption lacks the substance that made its prequels so awesome. Despite the near-perfect motion controls, the experience just isn't as exciting anymore.
-
The controls are heavenly but the game isn’t.
