I've changed my mind after about week of playing this I find it hard to say its not worth $20. Be warned though; this is not a good buy for someone who isn't a hardcore stealth fan. I found further value in this games replay-ability. With +20 hours of messing around I can't complain.

I am behind a bit on the Metal Gear games as I just finished Peace Walker recently. MGS1 and 3 are my favorites overall, but I dove right into Ground Zeroes because I heard it followed Peace Walker directly. I downloaded it for $20.00 on XBLA and I thought this price was high to be honest, but there is a good amount of side mission content and I have to say the gameplay is so tight that II am behind a bit on the Metal Gear games as I just finished Peace Walker recently. I found that the tension level is crazy in this game. I love the binoculars and tagging system overall. Also, the reaction mechanism is nice for a less skilled stealth player as myself. I admit whenever I play MGS I have had my share of running away as I got spotted. The game is great to play and looks awesome, even on 360 in my opinion. It is an indicator of the greatness that I feel is the Phantom Pain to come. I plan on grabbing a PS3 solely to catch up on MGS 4...the hardware has been my only hold back.

I know this release has been getting mixed views, but I think Kojima succeeded in giving his audience a stealth playground. If every mission in Phantom Pain plays this way I am beyond excited to get a hold of it.

In the end it comes down to your opinion, but I say this is game is worth your time.

With this game, you have to be aware of what you are diving into. The campaign doesn't take long and the ending can lead to some more unresolved questions, but this game is worth the $20-$30. This isn't an open world but it is an open format game which means if you want to blow stuff up and run in with guns blazing, you can do that, but if you want to be quiet and stealthy, you can do that. It is more fun to stealth through however. These missions are also highly re-playable with a different experience each time you play. Despite the fact that this game is essentially an appetizer to the main course, this is a really delicious appetizer that makes me even more pumped for the main course. Since the Phantom Pain is allegedly 200x the size of this, i think its safe to say we have another amazing Metal Gear Solid game to look forward to. Expand

If your a long standing MGS fan then you'll love this, the HUDS are gone and animation is smooth. The gameplay is exciting and tests your ability to plan ahead, sneak around, kill and use information to get the upper hand. Even if the main mission is very short, the game gives you a lot of choices and you are able to make strategies on how you want to deal with every situation. Also, for what this game is, proves that the Phantom Pain will be probably one of the best games ever made. And probably more features will be added to the PP.

Hard more is very challenging and gives the game lots of replay value. For some people, the game might be boring or short, but I think true Metal Gear Solid fans will appreciate what GZ and how it leaves you waiting for the PP. And there are lots of hidden stuff, like the cassettes or the emblems, it might be short in its main mission, but the extras make it worth

    The good:

Amazing graphics engine, for current gen looks to good, lighting at night is spectacular.
    Deep infiltration choices.
Hard more, very challenging for purists.
Great immersion, voice acting and lore.
Can use any vehicle and drive anywhere in the base.
Lots of hidden weapons in the map.
More mature approach that older MGS titles give the game a feeling of seriousness and cruelty.

    The bad:

    Main mission could be longer.
Missions in other type of maps are needed.
2 missions are rather dull and replaceable for something more appealing, one of them being Raiden mission.
More cut scenes would have been awesome.
An small online mode with a few modes and to be able to choose more characters would have been amazing.
Not the best soundtrack. Where is "Not Your Kind of People" or "Sins Of The Father"?

MGSV: Ground Zeroes is a fun quick demo-like experience. Take it for what it is.

Betting on depth of mechanics over breadth of content is a gamble, but one that massively pays off. This is a muscular, versatile slice of stealth, and a great indicator of things to come.
