Dungeons 3 proves that you do not need earth shattering changes to make a great sequel. The game very much feels like a loving update to its predecessor and the small splashes do more than enough to freshen things up. Easily the most polished and refined Dungeons game to date and Evily as good as the game that started the genre 20 years ago.
Dungeons 3 has taken the series to its highest point yet. While overbearing on the forced comedy, it can be genuinely funny. Most of all, though, it's addictive. Dungeons 3 features incredibly polished gameplay with great visuals and audio and the wide variety within the campaigns 20 missions never gets boring.
Dungeons 3 is a great RTS.
The map is split to underground and surface.
The underground is your main map, with the base building occuring only in the underground.
Most of the underground start undiscovered, you need to discover it.
Also you need to search for gold, build the rooms, recruit creatures to fight and of course to defend your dungeon.
The workers dig and build, but the creatures are the ones who fight, some having unique abilities like creating beer, creating mana for magic casting, build traps, torture prisoners, revive dead creatures, etc.
In the underground you can grep creatures and throw them anywhere in the underground but you can't order directly.
If you want them to do something or fight the underground invaders, you need to throw them in the room and hope they will do what you want.
The surface is used to collect resources and to destroy heroes' bases and other missions.
On the surface you control the units like other RTS.
The game has a long campaign (20 missions) with a humorous story and protagonist split personality.
There are also a lot of skirmish game types.
In addition, the game has a lot of DLCs with 6 shorts campaigns (all together 23 missions) which also add skirmish game types and add 3 spells and 3 traps.
The skirmish maps have random underground maps - which allow more diverse games.
Man, this is great! This is the best Dungeon Keeper clone. For long I have waited for such game after Bullfrog went RIP. Too bad I finished the game way too fast. Now I'm waiting for an addon! Reccomended for everyone, especially for DK2 fans!
Dungeons 3 comes with the same style as its predecessors, mixing strategy and dungeon management with a great sense of humor. Few innovations compared with its previous installment, but a game that offers hours and hours of entertainment.
Dungeons III is a good hybrid of real-time strategy and dungeon management. The quests are fun, the simple mechanics are tight, and the humor is nice, even if it can be grating at times. Its lack of difficulty will turn off anyone looking for a challenge, and the lack of a community means that those who like playing with others will find nothing here. The whole experience is worth it if you like what's on display here.
An RTS full of humor, with lots of options and an interesting amount of hours based on levels and content. A great experience for the fans of the series.
While better than its predecessor, Dungeons 3 still is miles away from the classic Dungeon Keeper 2. While the core mechanics are pretty decent, there still is a lot of untapped potential left. Instead the team focused on the narrative with its abysmal jokes - the script is a gag-a-thon that manages to miss its target in almost every aspect.
Dungeons 3 lets us with a frown. The management part is very good with lot of possibilities but on the other hand, RTS part is too classic. It's too redundant to be a fully enjoyable experience.
I have loads of backlogs but didn't really fee like playing any. Then I discovered Dungeons 3 and it's basically hitting the spot. It's the kind of strategy game that keeps me VERY interested and engaged.
It's mainly RTS, but it's got pretty decent tower defense element going with it. Every stage introduces a new mechanic and god I love the narratives. They really did a good job with this game.
This game is HIGHLY recommended for all strategy game addicts such as myself.
the campaign is funny and full of parody. The gameplay is fun, mix of RTS and dungeon-keeper like. I liked it very much. Characters are full of funny. Nothing new or original although!
First of all, the writing in this is AWFUL. It is childish, heavy-handed, repetitive and goes on and on and on. I turned off the speech volume for a while but the problem is that then you also don't hear important info about the game.
But I tried to tolerate it for the sake of the gameplay which I hoped I'd enjoy because I loved Dungeon Keeper (especially DK1). But for one thing, you can't really play the game at your own pace. Most levels are constructed in a way that you have to rush out there and be ready to defend quickly. Which means very little time for strategizing about how to build your dungeon. Some people might call it challenge, I call it annoying. And exploration doesn't really pay off compared to DK because the things you can find at least in the first 6 or so levels I've played barely have an impact.
Furthermore, the UI doesn't feel too responsive at times. For instance when you pick up creatures from the list of creatures, it may take about two seconds for them to appear by to the hand of evil.
So on my personal scale, it is actually lower than 6/10 but I felt that rating it lower wouldn't be fair because I can see how some people might not mind the gameplay aspect of having to rush I was describing. But the writing and other downsides - I think it's fair to assume that the majority of people will not enjoy those either.
Each level has 2 maps - the overworld and the underworld. Your base is in the underworld, the enemy base is in the overworld - you have to defend and train units then raid the overworld to complete your objectives. The problem with the game is that it is too easy and simple. In the underworld it plays like a tower defense game, but you get to make the maze, so you can just make a big zigzag. The overworld plays like Warcarft III, but it is basic and there is no strategy, usually whoever has the most units wins.
The audio design is awful awful terrible dreadful crappy awful bad. The game feels vacant, devoid of life. The combat is boring, the dungeon heart does not beat, the rolling stone ball doesn't make any sounds... What is this?
SummaryAt last, the Dungeon Lord has successfully united the forces of evil and established his dark empire. Time for the next step in his most diabolical quest: expansion!
