Burroughs invented a primal fiction: a man winds up on another planet, and has to find his way among strange creatures. Sticking to that fable, which was central to "Avatar," might have saved John Carter, but Stanton loses its appealing simplicity in too many battles, too many creatures, too many redundant episodes. I'm in my 50's and I took my 12 yr old boy to see this movie. We saw the regular 2D digital version. We were both thoroughly entertained by the story and the visuals. We want to see it again! Those who want to pick this movie apart for any reason they can think of (critics and users), andI'm in my 50's and I took my 12 yr old boy to see this movie. We saw the regular 2D digital version. We were both thoroughly entertained by the story and the visuals. We want to see it again! Those who want to pick this movie apart for any reason they can think of (critics and users), and then compare it to all other sci-fi that has come before it, are totally missing the point of this Edgar Rice Burroughs classic, and their whinings should be dismissed. The film is exactly what you expect going in. There is a decent plot supplemented by gorgeous backgrounds and the occasional action scene. Shakespeare this is not, but is a genuine good time with its mixture of humor, scifi, and western themes.

Great action, great story, great fun! It was entertaining from start to finish and it is definitely the best movie of 2012 so far... who could ask for more? This is a must see!

You can't go into this film expecting high art -- it's no Kurosawa or Bergman. You have to understand it as a variety of space opera written before science understood many things about the universe. A ne pas descendre John Carter pour son manque d'originalitÃ©, le film Ã©tant l'adaptation d'un livre (datant de 1911) qui lui mÃªme inspira bon nombres d'auteurs et rÃ©alisateurs cÃ©lÃ¨bres, tel George Lucas. Par contre, on ne peut pas laisser passer le cÃ´tÃ© "gnangnan" du film. La faute au fait que ce long-mÃ©trage est une production Disney, obligeant ce spectacle d'Ãªtre accessible aux plus jeunes avec des dialogues insipides, un humour qui ne fera rire qu'eux, une musique qui en fait trop question Ã©motions... Bref, le film Disney par "excellence", le studio gÃ¢chant ainsi un spectacle qui aurait bien pu rivaliser sans problÃ¨me avec Star Wars. Car, en effet, on ne peut rester de marbre face Ã cet incroyable univers visuel qui nous est proposÃ© (effets spÃ©ciaux, costumes, dÃ©cors, bestiaire...). Beyond bad. Where the heck did they dig up Taylor Kitsch to star in this I saw him in 'Battleship' which bombed as well, and he was one of the main reasons. He has absolutely NO charisma, and that in turn makes each and every one of his lines...laughable. This entire movie is a nauseatingBeyond bad.
