Handsomely staged, exceptionally well-cast, and reasonably faithful, Branagh has revived Murder on the Orient Express in a highly pleasing fashion. Sure, some of its modern amenities may leave something to be desired, but this train is quite sturdy and Branagh respects the ride.
An impressively good movie and faithful adaptation of the legendary Agatha Christie novel. For those of you that did not know. Agatha Christie is the undisputed Queen of murder mystery and detective stories. The number of her sold books is in the hundreds of million maybe past a billion and many of her innovative ideas are still used today. Murder on the Orient Express is one of her most famous story staring Hercule Poirot. The story is inspired by the Lindbergh kidnapping and plays in the Orient Express which was know as King of Train(travels). I cant spoil the twist or story because the reveal is brilliant as Hercule Poirot is faced with an unsolvable looking problem. Also it teaches him about the meaning of true justice and shows what he is made of. Like I said Agatha Christie was just brilliant with her ideas. Then there are the actors and their performance. Long time I thought no one came close to the legendary performances of David Suchet and Sir Peter Ustinov. Then Kenneth Branagh proved that he plays in the same league. His performance is excellent as he delivers everything including the whims. Small spoiler: The egg scene is correctly representing Hercule Poirot. End of small spoilers. Then we have something like an all-star cast for the other roles with Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley and all others. All roles are set with good actors that fully deliver. For me it is one of the best performences in this year. I must also praise the visuals, sets and soundtrack that add to the atmosphere. Maybe purist will remark that the movie makes some variations and additions to the book but they always capture the spirit and it never fells fake. Overall a worthy adaptation and a well made movie. Bonus knowledge: Do you know that the movies Mindhunters, Devil, Princess Bride and many more used also her ideas? Knives Out is also a homage to Agatha Christie.
Though he succeeds in creating the most memorable incarnation of Poirot ever seen on-screen (upstaging even Johnny Depp’s competing cameo), the movie is a failure overall, juggling too many characters to keep straight, and botching the last act so badly that those who go in blind may well walk out not having understood its infamous twist ending.
The current cast is cursed with the director’s lust for gravitas. Searching for emotional truth in Agatha Christie, Mr. Branagh succeeds only in killing her playfulness.
Znakomity film ze świetną kreacją Kenneth Branagh. Niestety niepoprawnościowy i wymagający.
Are you interesting in watching a very comfy who done it with a weird character investigating on train then I have to movie for you, and that mustache is truly worth it.I'm most impressed by the train scenes of the movie there's so interesting directing by showing it from the top of the angles and it's truly impossible to find out who is the murderer in this one.I watched this with my mother and she liked it and I understand why because who done its are kind of a relaxing genre to **** detective is amazing he maintains on screen It's amazing. he's moustache is amazing. I want more of him. I'm watched the next movies just to get more of this weird character.
I never read the book that this is based on or any of the previous movies or tv adaptions. This was my first experience with the famous title.
Firstly, the cast are all great with special praise to Kenneth as the detective. He was just a joy to watch and seeing him spit rapid information when he starts to figure parts of the mystery out is a sight to see. I also really love the cinematography which was gorgeous. However, my big issue is the murder mystery itself. A good murder mystery film or show is one where we understand the suspects and the clues. This is so we as an audience can learn and deduce it ourselves while the detective is solving it. The problem is that there is 13 suspects and only a 114 minute run time to explore them. Unfortunately, the suspects all feel one note and forgettable, with me not even remotely remembering what their name was. Some clues are also a bit too vague and I never felt like I was provided enough information at times. It got ridiculous when the movie reaches the climax and there are suddenly a bombardment of revelations that seem to come out of left field.
Nevertheless, it is still a fun mystery and there is definitely enjoyment to be had. Plus Kenneth has an amazing moustache.
This is a throwback to "old Hollywood" featuring mostly B-caliber has-been celebs playing dress-up in period wear. The plot is mostly predictable due to its formulaic layout. The rather unusual murderer reveal violates all guidelines for plausibility so you could legitimately complain this film wasted your time. Finally, this film takes a stand on the question of "Is it a crime to murder a murderer?" It's a production of a rabidly liberal Hollywood so you know their answer to the question already.
