Park makes a noble attempt to suffuse the meditative soulfulness of Takeshi Kitano’s “Fireworks” into the propulsive genre tropes established by more recent (and more Korean) forebearers like “A Bittersweet Life,” but he just can’t find the same poetry in that silent pain as he’s able to produce from the screaming kind. Violent without concessions, and it's better structured than I expected, however the duration and pace are problematic.

A better editing would've done wonders, because you can tell the director tried to make the story more penetrating and atmospheric, but a lot of that is lost when theViolent without concessions, and it's better structured than I expected, however the duration and pace are problematic.

Its main problems: it has half an hour of unnecessary scenes that cut the pace alarmingly.
