it is certainly not a classic but it is a welcome return to form, from both Arnold and the script. It's twists and turns are enough, to hold you at the edge of your seat.

I thought that Terminator Genisys was great. I liked how nutty the plot was. Arnold was awesome and Emilia Clarke is fantastic. Very cool movie. The critics have been too hard on this one.

Convoluted story, lack of focus, teenage humour. A dumber version of Back to the Future with sexier characters.

It's not enough to cast Arnie to call a flick "Terminator".

Were these guys stoned wen the made this move. Turning this into an alternate reality is not the good way to make a film. It was like a poor remake of Terminator 3. Please kids don't do drugs. And if you do drugs please do not make action films.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What to say about this one... Well, I'll say it's the blandest movie of 2015. This was far from an awful movie, but it's easy to see why so many fans hated it. The T-1000 went down way too easily. Honestly, I liked the T-3000. It was meant to be a hugely dangerous new terminator model, but it went down in a way that didn't really make sense. Not really recommended, but not exactly a waste of time. Expand

For the sake of the new Genisys where there is not one new idea. Where they try to tell the same thing, just give it a new name. The plot is generally so stupid that you wonder if this movie had a script. There are not bad action scenes, but they go in the sum of 10-15 minutes, and the rest of the timing goes to dumb dialogues. It's even scary to imagine what will happen in Terminator: Dark Fate. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely terrible. Only good actor here was Arnold Schwarzenegger. This was an absolute cluster f*** that was riddled with plot holes, over the top ridiculous action scenes, mostly unlikable characters, a bad plot and it made the absolutely idiotic decision to make John Connor imto an evil machine. Genesys is basically Ios that has a hologram thst starts as a kid then becomes an adult when it’s activated. That’s how moronic the plot here is. Dark Fate was bad but not this bad. Expand

What's the standard now for summer blockbusters? If the script is good, usually meaning a team of collaborative writers as with Pixar's best movies, and the production values above average, the movie is pretty enjoyable or perhaps near-great. This certainly describes the Marvel movies of the last five years and Jurrassic World as well.

How can people LOVE Jurrassic World but hate T-Genisys? Jaded audiences?

T-5 is not quite as good as the under-rated T-4, the fable of a Terminator who wished to become a human being. Wonderful storytelling. T-5 is almost this good. Its virtues for me are the tender care and consideration given to Terminator lore and to Arnold in his role. If you liked T-2, you probably liked how the two Terminators crash up a shopping mall. That same wonderful energy of casual destruction of cultural places is duplicated--not imitated--in T-5 when they casually crash up a hospital and police station. Duplicating the look, feel and energy of one of the strongest images of Cameron's T-2 is no small feat.

You'd think the excitement of Cameron's original liquid metal Terminator in T-2 would be hard to duplicate. Allen Taylor's oriental cool and deadly liquid T-2 equals or surpasses the original, again, no mean feat.

So what's not to like? If you liked T1 and T-2, I suspect you'll really like T-5; unless of course, being jaded is a value to you.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a really big fan of the first 2 Terminator movies, and I think that Rise of the Machines is a bit underrated. Salvation was horrifying, and I feared that Genisys will be the same. And how incredibly wrong I was.

Genysis is WAY better than Rise of the Machines, for me it was on par with the first movie, and only a bit worse than Judgment Day. Certainly the best Schwarzenegger movie since he came back to filming. The story was twisted enough to be fresh, the action was top-notch and the only thing I was disappointed in is that the T-1000 was destroyed too fast. I really wanted a duel between the T-1000 and John Connor (it could explore the fact that the T-1000 can become self aware and give the middle finger to Skynet).

So the movie was great I think, and I would like to ask the critics: what the hell have you watched guys? Seriously, 2.5/10 and 1/10? You have got to be kidding me. Why do I have the feeling, that because of Rise of the Machines and Salvation you gave the movie 2.5 and 1 BEFORE even seeing it? To be honest, I got to the point, when I'm thinking that I don't care about the international critic reviews anymore.

So my message to everyone who saw the previous Terminator movies: forget Salvation, and see this. You won't be disappointed!

Yes, there are some things that are only briefly touched upon but to fix all of the **** of previous films would of required Genisys to be **** 5 hours long so once again do not let all the negative prattling put you off, Genisys has neatly and tidily ended the Judgement Day loop. The film either retreads old ground or gets entangled in a convoluted story for the sake of resetting the timeline. There are elements of characters in the form of a hardened Sarah Connor but it’s never explored enough as the film gets way too bogged down in explaining the plot. Just when it seems like the film is dipping its toe into original territory it boils down to the exact same climax we’ve seen a million times. The film ends with our characters driving off down the road knowing for the first time in their life that they are free to choose their own path. Hopefully that’s what the next Terminator will do. No Terminator movie would be complete without the concept of time travel.

Arnie was in his mid thirties the first time he took on the role of a Terminator but but 31 years later he still has the magic. There’s something truly unique and heart warming about watching an Arnie movie on the big screen. It’s as natural a thing as breathing.

Jason Clarke, Courtney and Emilia Clarke all work well together but the plot becomes a little hard to follow with all its talk about time travel and alternate realities.

A true reboot

The premise was intriguing, but the trailers revealed too much, and watching the film had few surprises. The script was a major weakness of Terminator, because it left things unexplained, revisited way too much old material from previous films, and was way too overly complex. Along with the story, the dialogue was at times forced, and tried to remind us of older, better days, for the franchise. While the script wasn't very good, the action sequences were very good, and the actors were serviceable. Unfortunately the very confusing, sometimes unexplained story weighs the entire film down, and the end result is a mediocre film. Expand

"Terminator: Genisys" 10 Scale Rating: 5.0 (Mediocre) ...

The Good: The idea and initial concept is a great one. It really felt like an old school Terminator film (finally) for the first 45 minutes or so. Re-visiting 1984 and showing us more of what the future is like were definite highlights. I was dubious about Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising the role of the T-800, but he actually does an amazing job and was at the top of his game. I'm not usually a fan of Jai Courtney, but he was solid in his portrayal of Kyle Reese. The true standout though was Jason Clarke, who played John Connor. The previews and trailers give it away, but he is ultimately the main antagonist of the film and is among the better ones that the franchise has had. Byung-hun Lee's part was small and without many lines, but he was excellent as a re-imagined T-1000, the shape-shifting Terminator from the second film. For about 1/3 of the film, my reservations dissipated and I found it to be an enjoyable and wildly entertaining film.

The Bad: Sadly, they could not keep up that pace as the movie degenerated into "Rise of the Machines" territory. The story slips and never regains it's early glory, becoming somewhat nonsensical and bland. While the first third of the film entertained, the second act was average at best and the last third was awful. The ending was also unsatisfying and doesn't fill me with hope about the future sequels that are already in the works. Emilia Clarke is also definitely no Linda Hamilton and while she tries REALLY hard, she just doesn't pull off Sarah Connor at all. Lastly, some humorous elements were crammed into the film and they felt ill-timed and out of place. The first films have a bit of dry wit to them and it works. Here though Clarke, Courtney, and even Schwarzenegger are chock full of one liners and groan inducing jokes.

Emilia Clarke was perfectly cast as Sarah Connor. She brings a certain innocent vulnerability to the role that makes perfect sense in the context of the plot. Jai Courtney, while not ground breaking, delivers a solid performance as Kyle Reese. Jason Clarke was outstanding as John Connor and delivers a thoroughly enjoyable performance and often steals the scene. Arnold is Arnold, take that as you well. The references and jokes regarding the previous films were enjoyable and appropriately delivered without being done. The action was good, but more importantly the plot was better. I've seen people say the plot is convoluted, but I completely disagree. It's no more complicated than Inception and is a perfectly legitimate story given the context of time travel. J.K. Simmons' character Detective O'Brien wasn't really necessary and could have been removed, BUT his presence in the story makes total sense. Overall this was actually quite well written and thoroughly enjoyable. It is completely faithful to the original two Terminator films and SIGNIFICANTLY better than the crappy Terminator: Rise of the Machines and Terminator: Salvation. If you enjoy the Terminator franchise and wanted to see it done justice, this film should certainly please you. 8/10. Expand

While the“Terminator Genisys” directed by Alan Taylor is the fifth film in the Terminator franchise and sixth in the mythology if you include the cancelled TV show “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” that ran from 2008-2009 on Fox. While the film is not bad per se it is not great either feeling like another rehash of the same old material. If you count the TV show this is now the fourth time the main purpose is to stop Judgement Day and destroy Skynet. This is the inherent problem with the franchise and the reason it should have stopped after “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”. How many times can we watch the same story told over and over again? To make matters worse the plot of the movie borrows heavily from “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”. I feel the series staple of time travel is used to excess in the film. The cast is full of some of my current favorites doing their best to go through the motions on this retread. Emilia Clarke brings her usual strength in a small package that serves her well on “Game of Thrones” to the role of Sarah Connor. She strikes an excellent balance between the young T1 Sarah and the harsh chiseled Sarah of T2. I do appreciate a quick joke in the film about her small stature since she stands just over 5’1” in real life and the rest of the cast towers over her. Jason Clarke really does well with John Connor in the opening act of the film in 2029 but his character somewhat comes off the rails in the latter half of the film. Jai Courtney, as Kyle Reese, keeps getting roles despite having no chemistry with anyone he is ever in a movie with. He brings none of the soul that Michael Biehn brought to the role 31 years ago. For you “Doctor Who” fans blink twice and you’ll miss Matt Smith, billed here as Mathew Smith, in a smaller than I hoped for role that carried a lot of importance but didn’t get a lot of screen time. Also fresh off his Oscar is J.K. Simmons who maybe hadn’t won his Oscar yet when he filmed this because I didn’t even know he was in it until the opening credits rolled. As for Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as the titular terminator there isn’t much for him to screw up here. The motion capture they used for his younger self is much better than it was in “Terminator Salvation” and the reason for him appearing as old as the actor is in real life fits perfectly in the narrative of the film. While the film tries to recapture some of the emotional beats of T2 it comes up a little short and instead focuses on rehashing the same two jokes with his character the whole movie. In the end if you are asking to see it, rent it, or skip it, it really depends on you the viewer. If you are a big Terminator fan that would enjoy a nostalgia trip through the first film or are just looking for a decent popcorn flick then see it in the theater. For everyone else I say rent it. You won’t be missing much even if the Mother of Dragons is in the movie. There is a mid-credit scene so don’t get up and leave once the credits start. It is very brief but once you see it you can go. There is nothing at the end of the credits. Expand

If you haven't watched Terminator 1 and 2 watch them before this because some parts especially the first 30 mins tie-in with them. There were some really confusing things in the movie (don't worry not a spoiler) During the beginning of the movie Kyle Resse is saved by John Connor (this may tie into Salvation timeline I don't know I haven't seen it yet) and Resse is a kid and Connor is grown its just odd. The best thing in this movie is Arnold Schwaranagger, he plays the T800 really well. Few of characters could of been used better, JK Simions (Whiplash, Spider Man) wasn't wasted but he could of played into the story more. When James Cameron gets the rights back in 3 years I hope it turns out better. I'm not going to this movie had some solid action scenes like the highway section and the Arnold vs T3000 (not going to tell you who that is if you didn't watch the 2nd trailer.) Jason Clarke (Child 44, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) did a good as John Connor and Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher) was functional as Kyle Reese. One thing I liked and had a problem with is that they brought back the T1000 (I think it's the same one) from T2 I liked that but they kinda wasted him they show most of his scenes in the 1st trailer. If you live and die by the first 2 movies, you might not like this. If you like all the terminator movies you will definitely love this movie, I personally really liked this movie. Expand

But as its own film, it really struggles. First, I didn't care about the characters: too many chases and actions scenes; not enough effort to put complex characters in the story. Second, I think the franchise is just out of ideas. The first two films are classics; but this, like the previous two mediocre sequels, feels like recycled plot and action from the earlier movies. Instead of standing on its own as a new story, it tries too hard to prod nostalgia while trying to keep the door open for more Terminator movies down the road. A tough balancing act. Add to that a lot of plot holes and time-travel logic knots, it's hard to walk out of this with more than a smirk and shrug. Expand

Unnecessary forced sentimental moments that were jarringly out of place. If they would have kept the story more simple, then the special effects would have been more appreciated, but the convoluted story about alternate timelines and indecipherable time travel laws made the movie annoying.

It had its moments tho, with R-nold camping it up with his trollish face and exagerrated mugging, as if he's now some kind of freak show attraction, which I guess he's always been. He's so old and wrinkled now that it almost makes your eyes hurt and bleed just looking at his craggy old German face.

Makes you wonder about how clueless the people are who would approve of this completely asinine script. Who to blame? The producers, the director? Someone definitely is out of touch with what makes a satisfying and entertaining story.

STORY
Too complicated for a Terminator flick. Too many changes of scenery and objectives. The numerous versions of the past and the future messed it up a bit too much. There are a few holes here and there and too many questions arise during the viewing. Most of it is explained in as simple manner as possible by the actors yet it is hard to think about it. The reason for that is the action scenes are too close to each other. Basicly in every Terminator flick what you got was this : setup---action---explaining dialogues---action---more dialogues---etc.---ending. Every --- means 10-15 minutes so the viewer can rest a bit and get the hang of what is going on. Not in T5, here every --- durates for 5-7 minutes and then you get action. Not enough time to comprehend.
At some moment I felt like watching Inception and for an action movie it is not good.
Other than that the story makes sense and is deep enough. The holes are not so gaping to call BS. You watch it and hear the dialogues….ok, I can work with that. It is also interesting to see what T5 did to T1 and T2 and it is faithful to the original material, with one exception.
Moreover I was surprised two times by how it goes and that happens very rarely nowadays. Big props for that.
I absolutely loved the ending.
So T5 is a full action movie with deep enough story as in T1/T2. Classic stuff in the best sense.
Oneliners are great. Dialogues are ok. Some old questions from T1/T2 get answered here aswell.

CAST
Here I feel the movie could have done better. In T1/T2 all characters are deep and you sympathise with them. In T5 they feel more like story drones. Ahnold who plays a machine stands out among the human characters that are a bit hollow.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is everything I hoped for. He is nothing short of the T2 guy, a bit worse than T1 electronic murderer. It feels like the whole flick is AHNOLD-APPROVED for great entertainment.
Sarah Connor at first I didn`t like but the got through with good performance. Has everything the original Sarah had. With Arnie she keeps up the comical part through the whole movie.
Kyle Reese…no, just no. Kyle was not a hulk of a man he is in T5. He was not as stupid and iritating as the one in T5. Good performance but a mishap of the character.
John Connor - ok I guess, nothing outstanding but he did his part. I`d like him to be more into his character but it came out remote. I guess if he was bad then he`d ruin the movie but it didn`t happen so overall good job.
T1000 for the time he got in the flick I`d say he was meh.

SHOW
FANSERVICE!!! Lots of it in this movie and in just the right proportions as to not ruin the story. The whole movie pays homage to the first two films and it brought some cool new stuff on its own.
Too much CGI, a bit. It was good but they overdid it just a notch. The T1 Ahnold looked ok but nowhere near natural (although much better than in Salvation).
Overall all the fights look cool, creative and deal some serious environment damage. The only one I didn’t like was the helicopter scene.

MUSIC
A big NO. What the hell? Am I watching a Terminator flick or a Man of Steel flick?! Completely missed the mood of the movie. Came out artificial and needlessly pathetic. Adds nothing to the movie but feels like an itch with minor minutes of in between breaks. Not every movie needs an epic orchestra tune to make it look and feel good. Didn`t ruin the movie but I can`t believe they screwed this up that much.

I rate Genisys at 83/100.

I don't usually "go online" and write a review of movies and things, I am a HUGE fan of the Terminator franchise and my opinion is a little biased.
Took my kids to watch this when it came out in local theaters, I was "giddy" about this since seeing it in the newspaper. When my son asked me "what movie we were going to see" I was happy to say Terminator, thinking he loves these kinds of movies(he does). A few minutes later I was confronted by a angry mob of children telling me the movie is bad. There was a lot of drama/tears/shouting, but it turns out these online reviews that kids access from their smart phones are rubbish and only serves to irritate parents.
This movie was AWESOME (as they say) from start to finish, and having a few more Terminator fans around the house makes for good dad jokes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An enjoyable action film which at times is seemingly a parody of the Terminator franchise (a good thing!). Arnold is back and delivers an extremely entertaining performance full of cheesy one liners and some very active fight scenes! Some greatly humorous throwbacks to the original film during the scenes in the 80s which at times almost felt like you were watching an 80s flick. CGI Arnold returns albeit briefly in an apparent stab at Salvation which I enjoyed and the plot was quite interesting. More modern scenes were quite accurate in their portrayal of our current obsession with being constantly connecting and the Windows 10 esque operating system was interesting. John Connor delivered a fantastic performance and really made you fear the character at times, while Matt Smith's performance similarly shone out towards the end of the film. Overall, a slightly cheesy and action-orientated film but not one that deserves the bashing given by critics. Certainly will be enjoyable for fans of the series and an interesting take on the Terminator franchise! Expand

“I’ll be back!!” and Arnold is in a big way.

Terminator has been getting harsh critic reviews which are not warranted and are way off. It is clear that these critics are not aware of the Terminator franchise as a whole. You would have to be a fan of the TV series to understand the direction of the new film.

Terminator Genisys borrows from The Sarah Conner Chronicles TV series, creating skewed timeline possibilities with Kyle Reese still being alive, fighting along with Sarah Conner and a guardian Terminator (Summer Glau).

The action in Terminator Genisys is riveting and induces old excitement that I experienced with Terminator 1, 2 and The Sarah Conner Chronicles. I found the story fascinating and appreciated the retro humor.
It would awesome to see Summer Glau come back, as she was the best out of the TV series and is superb at action sequences.

I highly recommend seeing this film and look forward to the next films!!

At no point did anyone expect this to be any good, the trailer saw to that but I don’t think anyone could predict how bad it truly is. There are no adequate words but I’m gonna go for it anyway. So Arnie is back (in his many forms) to do what he does best, except this time he’s called Pops, now if this wasn’t a warning bell it pretty much explains why the rest of the movie was so terrible. Not only is this film horrifying on its own but it has to take Terminator 2 and in particular Terminator 1 and drag it through the dirt. It can’t even establish itself as anything new, taking great scenes from the classics and rehashing them hoping the fans will be too caught up in the moment to notice. It singlehandedly destroys the first two Terminator movies and leaves us with this horrendously traumatizing and soul crushing sorry excuse for a movie.
What’s that Arnie? You’ll be back, somehow I don’t think so. You know what I hope the machines do rise up and kill all humans cause if this is the standard for films in the future then I don’t want to be a part of it. Not recommended, I repeat, this film is not recommended for viewing as to do so is not only dangerously infuriating but can also put viewers at risk of potentially giving into the urge to gouge one’s own eyes out. Rant over.

A great "reboot" to the Terminator franchise. Respectful to the originals while being something new.

Great music and sound design too, which seems to nod at the T1 and T2 soundtracks in several places... I thought that was pretty sweet (unlike what we got in T3 and Salvation).

Without spoiling specific details... *something* happens in the original timeline (What that *something* is, is a question acknowledged by the film and to be explored in the future), that allows a deviation from the outcome of the future war that we're all familiar with from T1 and T2, which causes a new timeline/reality to branch off, and cause the events in this Genisys film. This new timeline seems like it's supposed to be continuous with our own reality, with regards to it now being 2015 and still no Judgement Day, and also in regards to our current state of technology and where it's headed...

Please don't let the 'professional' critic reviews steer you away from this film (or any for that matter). Make up your own mind -- you've seen the trailers and advertisements... if it made you curious, then just go! It's good. "Trust me".

It's not as clever or as groundbreaking, but there's a lot to enjoy. Arnold is at his best and the explanation for his dated looks as a terminator is easily believable. This was probably my biggest question when learning that the movie was in the works and wondering about Arnolds age since he is supposed to be a robot. But it makes sense! And the "young" t-800 looks great! Almost can't tell it's cgi and I absolutely loved the scenes where they interact.
There's a lot of enjoyable dialog in this movie. Some comedic stuff going on aswell, which I always appreciate as long as it's not overdone. They walk the line, but don't cross it. The Arnold smile was just brilliant!
Action sequences are reminiscent of a lot of the action from the first two movies. Clearly meant as such, which is perfect in my opinion. They did go a bit overboard a couple of times, especially the helicopter scene, but nothing that really ruined anything.
One-liners are also a highlight. I'm sure the pro reviewers will bash that, as they are supposed to I guess. But I loved it. Arnold should always be back, that's just how I want it.
The story is a bit muddled - and quite hard to follow. But once I decided on just giving in to the paradoxes, I just had a brilliant time watching it. It basically tries to rewrite the first two movies, which is ok by me. The first two movies are still as brilliant as ever, so I don't mind seeing how else it could have played out. Even though it is a bit more confusing this time around.
Sarah Connor is a bit miscast in the movie. Emilia Clarke is a great actor, but she does seem a bit too decent for this role. Her look is just too sweet in my opinion, even though she does a great job at it. I certainly don't dislike her as Sarah Connor, but with Linda Hamilton's boots to fill, it's an uphill battle.

All in all this is certainly the best Terminator since T2. I'm actually wanting to just forget about 3 and 4 and call this one 3.

It's not as good as the first two, but it's by far better than the other two sequels. It's intriguing, funny, and with an intricate challenging story that the lazy would call convoluted but just requires you to think. Not only that, the characters are pretty smart. They plant traps, the strategize, and develop tactics to counter their enemies. It's a smarter movie than people realize, but it's one some people clearly can't appreciate. Expand

I don't get it. The professional reviewers have rated this film quite unfavorably. But its not bad. Its no T2. Its no T1. But in my opinion its better than T3 and whatever that last one was called.
Emilia Clarke is a good enough Sarah Conner. She's given better performances before, and probably will again. I doubt she'll win an award for this role. But its good enough. Arnie is back. He may be incapable of doing most of the things his younger self did in previous films, but through movie magic he too plays his role good enough. He doesn't show his age quite so bad as Harrison Ford of late. The actor playing Kyle Reece is intended as kind of a blank slate, so that is done well.
The biggest failing of this film is that the story, and visuals have lost a lot of the grit. The CG is a bit too smooth at times, and the gravity of situations is often missing because of it. The bad guy wasn't quite real enough. With a good old T101, a blow to the head stunned, gunfire to the torso or head caused minor damage. It was clear what merited a "kill." This new guy though. At one point he was quite wrath like. Was anything they did having any affect on him at all?
Also. The school bus crash looked wrong. Though it was rendered like a bus, no bus would go flying like that. Not even with wires and rigging.
Overall, for me this ranks about an average action flick. Which is weak for a Terminator movie, but better than what we've been getting lately at least.

It's not perfect and has it's share of problems of course, the script is a little weak in places, not all the one liners hit home and the cast can't compare to the original cast. Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney's do an ok job in their roles, Emilia starts a little weak but seems to get a better grasp of Sarah as the movie goes on but they are no Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton.

There is a lot to like though. Solid action sequences, some funny one liners, brilliant recreation of the opening of the original movie, with CGI Arnold really well done, a new T-1000 which is still badass and of course real (old) Arnold playing his iconic role like he never left.

Overall it is a fun, entertaining action movie, nothing more, nothing less, so don't expect T1 / T2 greatness but it's still a pretty decent start of what should be a new trilogy, even though it does feel like a complete movie in itself, it certainly leaves a lot of questions unanswered for the future movies.

Pay no attention to the lame critics. They probably are still whining over the fact that the trailer spoiled the main plot-twist in the film. Which by the way I had spoiled as well and still loved every second of this film.

On my first viewing, I loved it enough to want to give it a 9/10. Then I thought well it has some drawbacks and some plot-holes, and thus should objectively belong at 8/10.

However, as far as subjective taste goes, I still think it is a 9/10 and would so watch this film again and again!!!

On second viewing, I realised that what I implied as a convenient plot-hole, is perhaps a plot-point on its own that they are building up to for the next films. A mystery to solve. And that thought makes this film even more fun to watch! I simply love it.

I wanted the ending to be a little darker, however with light of the chance of 2 more films coming out to complete the trilogy, I am happy with this ending as well.

It was a little PG heavy, and it could have been a little longer to add in there some lore elements and some slow-paced horror like the originals. However, even without those the pace is great. So great in fact I found fixed to the film all the way through on both viewings. Which is awesome! No bore, and no characters that I didn't want to see. It feels as though it really just kept the important things.

Fan service is also there. Recreated scenes from the original Terminator. The war in the future. All perfect. Then it follows a classic time-twisting element of the Terminator saga to become also releveant to our own time, leaving (spoiler) Sarah Connor in a future with Kyle Reese the year of 2017. Also the year the sequel should come out, right? (End of spoiler)

Hence it is all lined up perfectly.

I can't wait to see the next ones and I am so watching this again and again and again. I simply loved it

The naysayers are either to ignorant to understand half the plot or are wering nostalgia goggles at which point only a screening of the original Terminator would please them. Their views on all things Terminator are completely unfair, proving also that they are NOT fans of the franchise, but fans of the old film because hey, childhood.

Anyway, check it out.

I would even go as far as saying that it is almost as good as T2. I liked it more than T1, for sure, and that in itself is a HUGE surprise. But to also like it also as much as T2? Well that was completely out of the question and yet it happened.

Definately more fun to watch than T2 though, even with some drawbacks it is a film that second and third viewings keep adding to it. For me, this is a new timeless classic and a perfect addition to the Terminator franchise. It doesn't undo the old films either. Since this timeline exists because of the previous ones.

For some this is the true T3. For me it is not. T3 was T3. This here was an awesome reboot that I simply loved which "resets the future"! For me, this will be a new classic.

Bring the rest on. The Terminator is BACK in a bang!

For reference I consider T1 and 2 a tie because I like the more dark and thriller like tone of the original movie I would give them both a 9. 3 I would give a 6.5 and Salvation a 6. Today it seems almost impossible to please movie fans with the fact that the special effects can be so amazing now. Movies that have mostly practical effects that are executed at a high level will always trump the fake ass CGI effects that most movies deploy today. The new Terminator seems to have a fair amount of practical effects in it and I overall enjoyed the movie. It was fun especially the first half when they had the nostalgic element running high. The 1984 reimagining was a lot of fun. The new Terminator was really cool and the action scenes were good to me. I was able to follow the story fine. The time travelling thing is getting old and I am ready for them to put that to bed. Have a movie set after Judgement day already finish off Skynet and put this series to bed already. Its like watching the same thing over and over. They've milked the lets come up with an even more bad ass Terminator than the last time and have it come after Sarah, John and Kyle again storyline. If they do another movie like it I will not see it. But once again for a summer popcorn movie and the nostalgia factor I thought the movie was a fun time. Expand

I want to say straight off this movie is leagues better than 3, and in terms of plot it flows much better than 4. Genisys goes a much campier and friendlier route than any previous entry, but unlike 3, it never shies way from this idea. Rise of the Machines suffered from incessantly back peddling away from its cornball moments to try and pull off a grim story, which at the end of the day could have been really good.

Genisys is the Terminator movie you can take your kid or your younger brother to and have a great time, heck, take you daughter or kid sister! Sarah Connor is a fantastic action chick as ever, still not totally sure how I feel about Amelia playing a role that was previously filled by Linda Hammilton, but she did a fantastic job. The real star though is Arnold as quite literally Terminator Dad. He's melancholy and old and emotionless and yet... in weird ways when he does emote, it hits with a pretty good amount of weight. He's not going to get a moment that rivals, "I know now why you cry," but he gets some great goofy lines and does pull a heart string or two.

Is T5 perfect? Nope. I would call it fun though, a whole bucket of big dumb fun that is tonally consistent all the way through.

Genisys and terminator 2 are my clear favourites in the series. The critics must have watched terminator 3 and reviewed it under the genisys name by accident! I read some of the negative reviews from users on here and some of the harsh zero and one scores and I noticed that it's mainly idiots who cannot follow the story as its a bit 'complicated'. Bah I didn't review the twilight series at all let alone give it a one or a zero forb it being too stupid. Let's not down vote a movie because the story is complicated. Modern humans need to relearn how to use their brains for more than 2 minutes at a time. Genisys is fantastic. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well I just watched Terminator Genisys in Theaters and I have to say I was amazed. it starts off very slow but then it begins to pick up to where they were talking about skynet and Judgement Day. I always wanted to know how Terminators travel through time and it they showed us with a time machine. So if you remember the First Terminator the T 800 (younger) was sent to terminate Sarah Connor and I liked how they did the CGI. He got stopped by another terminator and then they both started to fight. I just love how Arnold was fighting his twin. Then the movie goes on what happened to the time line and why everything has changed. The Great things I like about this movie is how the action scenes were intense like you feel like something is going to happen and Arnold did his acting really well. The only con In have is that Kyle Reese was always complaining about what has happened with skynet and Sarah tried to explain but he wouldn't listen. This movie really had a big plot twist in a good way and that's when John Conner became the bad guy and it explains how in a flashback. Overall this was a great movie, critics may bash this movie because of the story but I don't really care I thought they did a good job. I give it a 9.0/10 Expand

The plot of Genisys is total mess fixed together with duct tape.. even for a story involving time travel, and expected paradoxes and retcons (within a margin of acceptable tolerance) Genisys is just way too absurd.
It feels like the studios are really starting to tarnish the franchise now for the sake of trying to jump-start a haphazard trilogy of PG-13 blockbuster holiday movies (this is the 3rd false-start in a row now).
Terminator Salvation was a better Terminator movie than Genisys and after my initial dissatisfaction with Genisys I resent it even further for retconning the first 2 movies out of existence to pave the way for it's own existence, and I'm disappointed for Emilia Clarke's sake because I like her and I want to see her do well (and it wasn't her fault that this movie sucked).

From the mythology and characters of the original, to the scale and dynamics of “T2″ and the lighter nature of Terminator 3 plus the CGI that re-created young T-800 in ‘Terminator Salvation’ and memorable lines from all previous ‘Terminators’, this film feels like a movie made by committee with as many boxes ticked as possible and with little risk taken, particularly if you consider that a reboot has the same actor playing the same central character.

But the most offensive element of ‘Terminator Genisys’ is not its lack of creativity and reliance on nostalgia, it’s the ungainly storyline that features alternate and converging timelines and a narrative so convoluted it almost covers over the huge plot-holes and disparate elements that must be brought together, with the stakes set so high in the story, it’s remarkable how in the end the audience can care so little about the conclusion to all this mess.

This film is not completely without merit, there is an attempt at a cautionary tale about dependence on interconnected technology, but this gets lost in the quagmire of the story, the action set-pieces and CGI are impressive but not enough to sustain interest for 2 hours and nothing we haven’t seen before, but despite the scene in “T2″ never did we think that the T-800 Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 would actually become “uncle Bob”.

The Bottom Line…
Despite plenty of action sequences and the return of “Arnie”, ‘Terminator Genisys’ is an unnecessary and unmemorable addition to the franchise relying heavily on nostalgia without offering anything you haven’t seen from your typical modern Hollywood action-blockbuster.

No it's not as good as t1 and t2(it's impossible), but it's better than t3 and salvation overall.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. John Connor sends Kyle Reese back in time to protect Sarah Connor, but when he arrives in 1984, nothing is as he expected it to be. The events in Genisys act as a ripple across an alternate universe. What if Skynet got to John Connor? What if a T800 saved a younger Sarah Connor? What if Judgement Day took place in 2017 instead of 1997? Yes there will be plot holes, but with this much fun who cares!

The performances are hit and miss however. Emilia Clarke cannot match the toughness or intensity of Linda Hamilton’s ‘Sarah Connor’, Jai Courtney is still not leading man material as he gives his take on Michael Biehn’s ‘Kyle Reese’ but Jason Clarke’s villainous 'John Connor' is a surprise twist that works. Where does that leave Arnold Schwarzenegger? Surprisingly his screen time is less than expected, with familiar one liners thrown in to keep the audience happy. Still, Arnold plays his role brilliantly. J.K. Simmons comes and goes as the helpful but pointless ‘O’Brien’, Matt Smith and Byung-hun Lee do well in their short roles.

So, what about the action? They are few and far between, but what is here is generic CGI summer blockbuster visuals, nothing that pushes the boundaries like you expect from this franchise. The trailer certainly gave away too much but we get visual references that respect the mythology and even add to it. In the end it’s the character development, exposition and plot that are at the forefront, which is no bad thing if it means we avoid rehashed action set pieces of previous films, which was a worry of mine going in.

Terminator: Genisys is a bold attempt to kickstart the franchise in a new direction. It may lack the cinematic intelligence of James Cameron’s originals, but after tired retreads like 'Rise of the Machines' and ‘Salvation’, this entry in the sci-fi franchise is actually well worth your time.

Now in it's fifth instalment the Terminator series, Arnold has returned once again in another attempt to stop the seemingly unavoidable judgement day from happening. But sadly at this point it feels as if the franchise has been back too manyNow in it's fifth instalment the Terminator series, Arnold has returned once again in another attempt to stop the seemingly unavoidable judgement day from happening. But sadly at this point it feels as if the franchise has been back too many times. It fails to bring anything substantially new and instead feels more like a weak rehash of things we've already seen in previous films.

We open the film with familiar ground. In a post apocalyptic war the humans, led by John Connor (Jason Clarke), launch an assault taking out Skynet once and for all. But after their victory they discover that a T-800 (played by a CG Arnold Schwarzenegger and a body double) has been sent back in time to 1984 in order to kill Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and they send Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to protect her. But when he arrives everything is different. Sarah is not the meek helpless person we saw in the first Terminator, but rather a hardened warrior. And the Terminator Kyle is sent to kill has already been taken care of. with the only T-800 left being an aged model who has raised and protected Sarah since her childhood that she calls "Pops" (played by the real Schwarzenegger).

After this we diverge in to needlessly convoluted storyline of time travel silliness involving our leads travelling from 1984 to 2017, dealing with alternating time-lines that correct Kyle's memories and a new Skynet using a new "killer app" to take over the world. At times it's hard to follow and all the complicated time travel is basically the film's way of being able to reset the world and the characters to start a new slate in a more modern setting.

The strongest part of the film probably ends up being Schwarzenegger. Whilst his aged Terminator is obviously just a clever way to get him into the film, the concept of his flesh ageing as any human make sense and his "old but not obsolete" theme is different to what we've seen in previous films and does lead to some interesting scenes of his joints stiffening up mid battle. Plus as usual he does deliver the most laughs in the film through his robot trying to be human routine whilst still able to pull of the imposing figure that made the Terminator great to begin with.

But unfortunately this old Arnie seems to be the only element of the film that isn't a rehash from earlier films. The story is the same mixture we saw in T-2 with Arnie protecting the humans, a theme of whether a robot can love and the heroes attempting to stop judgement day. The only difference being that here the characters are so poorly developed that we don't really root for them the same way we did in previous instalments. Our characters are given such little time to develop that when they go from 1984 to 2017 they never have a single line of dialogue reacting to how different things are in the future.

Then there's the way the film seems to destroy the intimidating presence that Skynet had in the other films. They're defeated so quickly in the short opening with the humans toppling them like domino's, that I was left wondering how they were even a threat to begin with. But worse yet is how the film seems to ruin the intimidating image of the original T-800 from the first Terminator movie changing him from a near unstoppable presence from the first film, into an easily defeated nuisance who's defeated almost as quickly as he is introduced.

When it comes to the fight scenes they're a bit of a mixed bag. At times Alan Taylor proves himself confident of creating a decent action sequence with some of the earlier fight scenes with Byung-Hun Lee set in the 1980's are good creating a cool game of cat and mouse with a T-1000 chasing a helpless Kyle through a clothing store. But other fights just appear as mindless CGI violence looking as generic as you can get. The worst being a helicopter chase which uses some of the worst CGI that I've seen in a blockbuster movie in quite a while with helicopters having a cartoon's concept of physics and look atrociously unbelievable throughout.

Ultimately the film relies only on nostalgia. It tries to remind you of the past Terminator any time it can with half the dialogue in the film being recycled from the other movies ("I'll be back" "Come with me if you want to live" etc.) and relying on tie ins to previous Terminators showing the original T-800 along with the iconic designs of the futuristic metal exoskeletons. But in trying to do this it feels more like a homage to the Terminator films than it does a new instalment. And not a good homage either.

First, it does not know how to spell "genesis". Second, the quality of the story and character development is literally scraping the bottom line while production values for all the explosions and **** are blown to epic proportions. This seems to be a consistent issue with a lot of blockbuster reboot movies, as they all tend to bring in previous senior cast members (or popular, trending new ones), let them act out on a bland script with the most preposterous plot twists (I won't spoil anything, but there is a twist to the movie, and boy do these twists go far beyond), and use the rest of the money on car chases or huge fights that involve a lot of, you guessed it, explosions. "Terminator Genisys" is no different from the others, so the question remains; is this predictable movie really worth your green bills? Expand

I have no idea how this will play for someone who isn't already a fan of the "Terminator" franchise, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Crazy action, Arnold mugging it up with one-liners, the return of the T-1000, Khaleesi pulling off a flawless American accent and making Linda Hamilton proud in the role of Sarah Connor, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) even making an appearance... what's not to love? Well, there are a few missteps along the way. Jai Courtney totally fails at portraying Kyle Reese, and most of the set pieces aren't as elaborate or as intricate as those of the past installments (though Arnold does shine in them). I'm honestly just happy that this totally negates the events of the cluster-eff that was "Terminator: Salvation".

For the people who were disappointed with this one, what were they expecting, the second coming of Christ? It's a freaking Terminator movie for God's sakes, logic and consistency not exist in this dojo. In fact, I applaud the filmmakers for playing it fast and loose with the timeline and basically flipping everything on its head. As a stand-alone movie, it works decently, but as a reboot for the franchise, I think it works splendidly, despite one too many "old, but not obsolete" grandpa Arnold jokes. For the first time since "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" was announced, I'm actually looking forward to the next one. Good job, filmmakers.

The latest Terminator entry gets good grades for effort, but ends up with mediocre results. This reboot works because of Arnie, but didn't work because of the younger casts. Emilia Clarke is great in Game of Thrones, miscast as Sarah Connor. The plot line has some smart moments, but sometimes felt like a 'parody' of the Terminator series. Even its action scenes were remixes of better set pieces from part 1 & 2. It's worth a look, entertaining in parts but simply too convoluted for its own good. The production team tried their hardest, but simply cannot match the inventiveness of James Cameron's much superior original duology. Expand

When even a liquid killer bot seems to have more personality than the male lead, I guess we should start to worry. Arnold steals the show as a grizzled Terminator protecting yet another version of Sarah Connor in several timelines fromWhen even a liquid killer bot seems to have more personality than the male lead, I guess we should start to worry. Arnold steals the show as a grizzled Terminator protecting yet another version of Sarah Connor in several timelines from several killer bots and the viewers from crying from boredom or confusion. You got to give him the credit for at least making this movie watchable.

The plot is made up by shredding the scripts of the previous movies and then randomly gluing the paper snippets back together. You add a lot of explosions, chases and cgi to the mix to plaster over the biggest plot holes and keep the audience off balanced. Add some boring leads to the mix and Arnold shines even more.

So we have a bad Arnold bot from the first movie hopping back in time to kill Sarah, while both the guy from that first movie and a good Arnold bot of the second movie do the same to prevent that. At the same time the T-1000 liquid killer bot from the second movie makes an attempt as well, being bested by Sarah, the good Arnold bot and the male lead, while the bad Arnold bot makes another attempt on Sarah's life after being restarted by the liquid killer bot, but only to fail again..

After that, we get to hop back again in time to yet another moment in the past or hop forward to yet another timeline. Then we get some sudden intimate moments between the male and female leads, cause well they have to mate at some point to make a hero in the future of their timeline. The male lead messes up his one liners and the female lead looks like a teen and we get some more emotional and intimate moments dished to demonstrate the total lack of chemistry between the leads.

A guy who looks like that engineer dude from the Star Trek Next Generation series makes an appearance as the head of da resistance and the bad computer network is shut down in the future, but not shut down because it is actually downloaded into another bot to survive the shutdown and then turns that engineer head of the resistance dude, who also happens to be the son of the two leads, into another bot that then goes back in time to stop the leads and Arnold from stopping the bad network from destroying the world while at the same time trying to save another son of the leads of another timeline, who isn't their son therefore, from getting killed in the progress.

More stuff follows, some buildings get blown up and the world is saved so the two leads can get it on to make their own hero of a resistance that will never be,as the bad network has been killed in the past already.Of that timeline that is.

After the credits we get a cliffhanger in case someone might plan a sequel in the future that is hopefully less of a mess than this one, but if it isn't let's hope the sequel is in another timeline so we won't have to hear from it ever again in our timeline. Not in future nor in the past.

Just watch Arnold do his thing and have a laugh.

What is there to say really. They're cashing in on Arnie's and the Terminator franchise's popularity. The casting choices are all very bad and basically put popular/pretty actors in roles they don't fit. The plot is a big giant mess. But IWhat is there to say really. The script is so convoluted filled with plot holes and it barely makes any sense, obviously the film is written by people who don't care for the franchise. The film has lackluster action, that's odd because the terminator series has great action scenes, director Alan Taylor does a slick way of directing the action scenes and copying off of James Cameron. John Connor (Jason Clarke) the leader of the human resistance, sends solider Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in 1984 to protect his mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke from 'Game of Thrones') from another terminator assassin, creating an unexpected turn of the events in the timeline; in the first Terminator Sarah is a scared waitress, but now she is a skilled fighter and has her Terminator guardian (played once again by Arnold Schwarzenegger) by her side. With good allies and dangerous enemies Reese sets out on an unexpected new mission: reset the future and prevent Skynet from launching their app before the robot apocalypse starts and destroys mankind. There are many flaws with the movie, Arnold once again is great and brings so much energy and like ability into the Terminator and Jai Courtney was missed cast however he was fine playing Kyle Reese. Emilia Clarke was missed cast as Sarah Connor (she can act but not in this movie) she over does with her performance and Jason Clarke was not a mediocre version of John Connor like Nick Stahl, Clarke can act but doing over doing it as the John Connor character. The film is not cheesy or cliche'd it's confusing as hell and the action is mediocre. Grade C- Expand

The problem is the movie is so confounded with time travel in a story that is mainly retread disguised as reboot sequel that it doesn't make much sense. There are plot holes and flaws. One small one in particular I wondered about is with the filmmakers going through all the trouble of recreating 1984 Los Angeles, with beautifully shot/VFX of the downtown skyline of that era for example, then go and blow a simple detail like LAPD using a collar radio instead of a walkie talkie in that year. A very small flaw yes, but it amounts to sloppy direction. And that amounts to a befuddling story with too much action and not enough well thought out plot in a movie that drags despite the strong franchise base and fun that it has with it. Expand

I didn't expect much going in to see this, but the story was a lot stronger than i had expected.. makes me want to go back and re watch the originals. Worth a watch despite what the critics are saying, i don't even know why or how critics exist in this day and age where everyone is a "critic" , their opinion is no more valid than ours, only difference is we can't be bought. If you like the originals give this one a chance. Expand

Which is a shame since it had some good casting. IGN said Emilia Clarke was miscast as Sarah Connor but she is perfectly tough and badass.
To me it's Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) who was miscast as Kyle Reese. Courtney was perfect as a jerky villain in the Divergent movies. He's bland when he plays a hero though. However Schwarzenegger slips back into the Terminator role perfectly. J.K. Simmons adds good comic relief as a Detective who believes Connor and Reese's crazy stories about Armageddon and robots. While Matt Smith (Doctor Who) makes small creepy appearances as Skynet.
Despite good action the movie sort of feels like a ride to nowhere. While feeling a little way too familiar despite the story supposed to be being fresh this time around. It feels like Terminator 2 but without a solid plot.
While John Connor's wife Kate Brewster was written out completely. Hell the John Connor character even gets the short end of the stick this time around. Reese cares more than Sarah that John is a T-1000 now. But everyone shoots at him nevertheless and he's blown up multiple times. So one seems too concerned to reverse the process.
