Stylistically, Acrimony has moments of genius — slow camera movements that push in on Melinda, emphasizing Henson’s performance and the building pressure — but it’s also hilariously cheesy, and slightly chintzy, which adds to its schmaltzy charm.
Ambitious and deeply flawed, Acrimony may appeal to hardcore fans of The Room–it’s not every day a melodrama comes along that’s this fun precisely because it never takes itself seriously.
With all the negative reviews I didn't want to waste my time. But then I saw it on Hulu and watched. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It's a great thriller. I believe women will relate to the movie more than men.
Classic movie!
There were so many issues at stake.
Depending on how you look at it.
I saw from the woman's perspective.
I saw a selfless woman.
I saw a strong woman.
I saw a woman who puts her needs after others.
We all have our weeknesses. However, it is for those we love that should strengthen us in such times.
I take caution as a man from it.
Women are the driving force of this universe. Take them out and we all come crumbling down.
They make and unmake us.
A woman is the key to all things.
A woman is the creator.
She is the God we all cry to at all times.
A woman is God.
A woman has a long llifespan.
That of a man is but short.
I liken it to the Bee colony, women are the Queen Bee of our humanity.
We are but drones in a nuptial flight, we die or live to work for the colony to grow.
The bond of the Queen Bee with the colony shouldn't be broken, when it does by the arrival of a new queen, chaos breaks loose sending the old Queen packing to set up a new colony or die.
When we break that bond between our women, we create chaos.
Nothing absolves the lady of her crimes.
We need to know as men that women are like incubators, they can keep emotions for so long which can explode with just a little spark which makes and unmake.
Just like in the movie, many forces were at play but the man could go extra mile to prove to the woman that he didn't cheat.
Why couldn't he try his experiment with other equally good companies with the advent of ICT and globalisation? Many other international companies elsewhere could compete for his invention.
So realising that, my action and inaction can unleash this chaos, shouldn't we work towards caring and nurturing our women so as the keep the harmony intact.
Just like the chinese ying yang, the two sides complement each other. One can't be without the other.
I am because You are.
We have always known this as Afrikans until we lost it to the influence of foreigners on our land.
It is our duty to take care of our women.
It is inbuilt.
Or else we are doomed as humanity!

And telling your story with endless pages of sarcastic, venomous narration? It doesn’t work and even Henson was bored with it, judging from her line-readings.
With this latest thriller (comedy? My fellow audience members were laughing at scenes I highly doubt were intended to be funny) Perry implies that not only does she belong there, but she forged every link in her chains.
I don't understand sometimes what gets a movie critic's goat, but I very much disagree with the poor ratings by the "experts" on "Acrimony". Tyler Perry has a flair for the bizarre, and this time around we're dealing with a woman who is played brilliantly by Taraji Henson, one of the best actresses in the business today. It's tough not to give away certain plot points here because the movie revolves around a scenario and marriage that slowly but surely reflects two wildly different accounts of the events contained therein. Critics calling this a soap opera are wrong - it's nowhere near the mundanity of those wretched shows. It is listed as a comedy, but I assure you there is little if anything to laugh at. Henson of course is fantastic in her role as a girlfriend and then wife of a man who tries desperately to invent a self recharging battery and get the attention and hopeful financial payday it would deserve. We know something is wrong fairly quickly with Henson's character's narrative, and by film's end we are found being both for and against her at the same time. That is not plot confusion - I just can't mention particulars without giving the plot away. Not only do I disagree with the poor critics' remarks, I think "Acrimony" is a great movie with a brilliant story line, exceptional acting all the way around, and whether critic snoots like it or not, one of the year's best movies. For those of us sick of the usual parade of superhero movies, religious movies and blow-em-up brainless action films, "Acrimony", along with "Annihilation" rank as two of the best so far in 2018. In this case, definitely do NOT pay attention to the critical drubbing. They are just plain wrong and for some reason, a few seem to be vindictive, to what end I don't know. Tariji Henson is too talented and too smart to waste her time starring in poor movies, and all her fans including myself know it. I see a lot of movies now that I'm retired, and I know good when I see it, whether critics do or not.
This is an okay movie. That is it, just okay. This is a film that when theres nothing else to watch, this movie could be an option. Nothing new, just another angry, bitter black woman in a Tyler Perry movie.
(Mauro Lanari)
The script, unstable as much as the protagonist affected by borderline personality disorder, makes her oscillate between victim and victimhood. After all, it wouldn't be a flaw if the story didn't turn into a melodrama with a bit of splatter lived by a rich couple.
It's not a bad movie, but it's monotonous. The story begins good, interesting and with some good quotes and thoughts about how it is to love someone when you are in an abusive relationship and suddenly it seems like Perry lost it all and the story just gets boring, redundant, obvious and boring again.
Tyler Perry's Acrimony is one of the most melodramatic and lazy movies I have ever seen. The only people that liked this movie in the theater where I saw it at were the hordes of highly conservative women that filled the seats. That being said, their loud reactions to the film were quite entertaining, and I even joined in on the fun.
The biggest problem with Acrimony is the script. It thinks that it is a lot more intelligent than it really is. The chapter style set up was ok, but after that it really fell apart. The most tragic events are strung together and then subsequently brushed over in the most hamfisted way possible. Character motivations are clear for the most part, but the revenge driving Taraji P. Henson's character made her almost supernatural in her vengeance, and she even reappears on a boat completely dry after being knocked off it while the boat is going at a high speed. This cheesieness starkly contrasts with the kitchen sink realism that the movie tries to be. The direction is just lazy and uninspired. It's shot like a sub-par lifetime movie. The acting is perfectly melodramatic for the material. It's definitely over the top and unbelievable. A lot of scenery-chewing from the whole cast. That being said, if you like "so-bad-its-good" type of movies, definitely check out Acrimony!
