George Macready

Biography: George Macready is an American actor who is best known for his roles in a number of movies and television shows in which he play a villain, particularly in Westerns. Born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1899, Macready later matriculated to Brown University. While in school, he suffered a bad automobile accident in a Model T, which left him with a pronounced scar on his cheek. This helped define his look as a bad guy in many of his plays. He began work as a Shakespearean actor, starring in MacBeth, Much Ado About Nothing, and Romeo and Juliet. His first big film was Commandos Strike at Dawn, a 1942 film set during the World War. In the 50s and 60s he would go on to take major roles in a number of movies, including a Stanley Kubrick 1962 anti-war piece, Paths of Glory. Later, he would take supporting roles in a number of TV shows, particularly Westerns, including Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Wanted Dead or Alive.
