Although it’s rooted in the look and language of embarrassing old sitcoms, Tim and Eric’s artistic voice quickly steamrolls through it, leaving an intentional, carefully crafted wreck in its wake—one you’ll have a hard time looking away from.
The comedy is at once ridiculous and disturbing, played — even overplayed — with bland insouciance; it achieves a sort of authenticity while repeatedly signaling that it’s all a construct, a performance informed by the idea of performance.
