How to Get Away With Murder begins with an actual murder--a group of hypercompetitive law students are fighting over what to do with the body--before it flashes back to their first day in Keating's class, quickly establishing each character before discrediting our first impressions.... Thanks to Davis' powerfully layered performance, it's impossible to read Keating.
With admirable economy and keep-up-people pace, creator Peter Nowalk reveals both the imperial nature of his lead and quick sketches of the five students from the opening scene.
The best murder thriller drama ever. This is my favorite new show of 2014. The screenplays and storylines are fantastic. The cast all give stupendous performances especially Viola Davis, Jack Falahee, Carla Souza, Alfred Enoch, Katie Findlay, Liza Weil, Aja Naomi King, and Billy Brown.
This show is extremely addicting! It has major plot twists, and whenever you think you are able to guess what is going to happen, it goes in a completely different direction. What is unique about this show in my opinion is that at the beginning of every season they show a clip indicating that someone has died. Most of the time, you don't know which character has died, and the entire season keeps showing you more and more of the clip until at the end you finally know who died and how.
That main plot line keeps you engaged as it is. However, this show also brings in humor, relationships between the characters, past drama they have been involved in, etc. that really adds to the main plot. You become very involved in all of the characters lives and find yourself judging all of the decisions they all make!
After I watch this show i immediately need to talk about it with a friend that also watches it. So much happens in an episode that you need to discuss everything as soon as you watch it before you forget!
The acting is also extremely good on this show. The storyline is amazing, but it would not be nearly as good if the actors and actresses didn't do a good job.
Highly recommend!!
Davis is overqualified for the material, and, yet, like Kerry Washington before her, she brings an added dimension to the part of an intimidating yet vulnerable woman. Meanwhile, through the hammy uses of flash-forwarding, it’s barely any time at all before Annalise’s ambitious students are tasked with covering up their own homicidal tendencies.
Davis goes all Sasha Fierce on the role. In fact, her potent performance nearly overwhelms the show, something that rarely happens on TV. She certainly makes the younger contingent of the cast fade into the woodwork.
The show would benefit from easing up on the frenetic pace, taking a breath every now and then, and making its younger cast members seem like they’re actually in law school, not an Abercrombie & Fitch catalog.
It doesn’t offer enough fun to balance out the multiple improbabilities in its storyline, the constant time-shifts, the hard-to-follow scenes in the dark or what we’re expected to accept about the legal and academic worlds.
Season 2 of HTGAWM is SO WILD. Every single episode has kept me on the edge of my seat since the chaos from season 1, which was also nonstop CRAZY. I'm obsessed! Thank you Shonda for a wild thrill ride of a show!
I hope they revamp it while on hiatus because it needs serious help. Watching Viola Davis be emotional as a powerful business woman is bothersome. it is too much. And all the sexual maneuvers by all is unnecessary in this show. Get a grip please!!! Hopefully it will get a much needed enema and bring some substance to the show, because it is not promising at this time. Viola is much better than this.
So far blinding convoluted pace that's almost unwatchable and feels almost juvenile. Zero meaningful character development. Ironically would be more enengaging with less non-stop 'imperative' action.
I have suffered through 6 episodes for the sake of my sister who enjoys sharing the storyline with me. So many things wrong with this series, and others have said it better, but for starters: Unlikable characters, unbelievable plot, huge amounts gratuitous sex, shoddy writing, mocks religion, average acting--with the exception of Viola Davis, of course. I'm done.
