Love on the Spectrum takes these adults well past their comfort zones, testing their emotions and their interpersonal skills in dating situations that I found myself relating to way more than I expected. ... It’s not as moody or emotionally wrought as scripted shows like Netflix’s Atypical. But its quest is one that feels so relevant right now.
Very charismatic people with great humor struggling through the perils of love like the rest of us, but unable to lie, spin or say anything but whatever crosses their mind. And oh the things that cross the mind on a first date. Everyone says they just want honesty. Here's what that looks like: it's charming and disarming. It's easy to understand the love and pride these parents have for their kids and the heartbreak that so few will find romance. If it takes ten seasons, count me in, because the world loves a brave underdog. And oh, the courage, in the face of constant rejection and there for all the world to see, with their own minds getting in the way without respite. Move over Marvel, there's a better brand of heroes in town!
Stumbled across this wonderful little show the other night and our family is enchanted by it. We have never had a show tug at our heartstrings as much as this one. Laugh, cry, and love all packed into every unique and beautiful story. Can’t recommend enough.
More than anything, Love on the Spectrum exhibits empathy toward the featured players without condescending toward them, and quickly bridges any cultural barriers in a broadly universal manner. In the often-cynical world of TV dating, that combination provokes pretty strong feelings of like at first sight.
It’s easy to fall for it, even if you find some of its unscripted storytelling techniques less than trustworthy. The subjects’ search for love and romantic companionship, as they navigate dating experiences that, for some, are their very first, don’t need much editorial flourish. The people on screen are so naturally charismatic and compelling.
This five-part newcomer feels more of its moment, taking the time to explore the lives of its participants in greater depth, which results in a programme filled with joy, warmth and insight.
