Smart, addictive and flat out fun, Strange New Worlds is the best Star Trek series since The Next Generation and acts as a faithful love letter to the original. Old fan or new, this is a trek you’ll certainly want to take.
What “Strange New Worlds” brings back is some of the Buck Rogers brio of the original series. ... There is enough of William Shatner’s puckishness in Mount that one may easily forget that this is the Pike and Spock Show, and not the Kirk and Spock Show. ... It is in the “Star Trek” way of things to get a little cornball, a little goofball, a little silly. This is more feature than bug. Earnestness has the edge over sense; science, if you want to call it that — it often amounts to magic here — just serves the drama, the philosophy and the themes.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is fantastic! Admittedly I’m a lifelong fan of Star Trek. However, in my humble opinion; this is the best show since TNG. Gene Roddenberry had a vision of the future that was hopeful, optimistic, inclusive and Utopian. Unfortunately in our “real world environment today, this raises a flag for that same old Extremely vocal minority that wants to hold onto hate. They dismiss ST: SNW and ST: Discovery as “woke”, “left leaning crap” and it’s even been called “porn for liberals”. These are NOT real Star Trek fans. Real Star Trek fans know that the Star Trek Universe is based on inclusion. Not discrimination. Love. Not Hate. Ideology aside (which I should never have had to actually address), this show has great casting people, actors, writers, costume designers and directors. The cast has an incredible chemistry that’s displayed from the pilot episode through to the end of season 2. I can’t wait to see where the creative genius's take this show next. As for the few reviews that dismiss the show and acting as shallow, boring or predictable…. What’s the name of your hit show that you wrote? Names of the characters that your great actors gave life to? Oh yeah, that’s right. You spend so much time online trying to tear down great ideas and people: you haven’t had the time yet. Lol. Seriously though, this is an amazing show. Whether this is your 8th Star Trek series or your first introduction to this storied franchise; Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will take you boldly to some kick-@as Sci-Fi!
Seasons 1 and 2 now streaming on Paramount+
Anyone complaining about wokeness or shallowness is thinking about it too hard. This is an entirely enjoyable mix of lighthearted adventure and drama that feels a lot like a spiritual successor of TOS. Just like that series, it doesn't take itself too seriously and neither should we.
The show looks great, moves quickly, and does everything it can to keep the audience entertained. At times, its excess of charms can border on cloying, and some of the attempts at moral lessons are distractingly ham-fisted, but everything passes by so smoothly it’s hard to hold a grudge. The going may not be as bold as it once was, but it’s fun and rarely insulting, and most of the time, that’s enough.
This latest Trek marks the fullest embrace of the canon's history ever, really. ... Mount was already delightful as Pike on Discovery, and this show leans into his charm.
While existing within that canon, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” leverages audience familiarity in a manner that’s welcoming rather than suffocating. As the title implies, this is a loving throwback to the spirit of exploration and derring-do so intrinsic to the brand over the past six decades (right down to Mount reciting a version of the “Space, the final frontier” narration that both Shatner and Stewart had a go at in previous incarnations), while pointing toward a future full of possibilities.
There are installments that hit and others that are completely forgettable. But the series has successfully and quickly established a small ensemble that’s easy to care about and a hopeful ethos that harkens back to the original Star Trek series and the more procedural aspects of various popular spinoffs. It’s an amiable and entertaining throwback by intent and in execution.
Comfort blanket Trek with a great cast, snappy writing and plenty of strands to unwind in future episodes, Strange New Worlds achieves everything it intends. But there’s a lingering feeling that there’s perhaps not quite enough that’s strange or new.
While it is an improvement over the awful shows they've been tossing out like Picard, Discovery, and the abomination that was Lower Decks. I'm not yet convinced that this can be an improvement over said shows, however, it does show promise. As another viewer has said: "so much for 'strange new worlds'" it does seem to be a very political first episode, but I see this as a possible good thing or a possible bad thing, the Star Trek we all know and love did dabble in space politics, but it was not directly tied to real-world events, and that's just the thing isn't it? Many movies have been forcing politics down our throats and calling it entertainment, but if they stray away from this they might have something good on their hands.
Probably the best thing since the 2009 Star Trek trilogy, which isn't saying much. The movies I enjoyed but I wouldn't call them masterpieces like OG star trek, Next Generation, and even Voyager. This Star Trek is dark and gritty, less smart, and more action, take that how you will, but this is more Star Wars than Star Trek. That's the problem with the newer Star Trek, it sacrifices intelligence for action. I will say that the action is more sidelined and this series looks like it could be a promising possible revival for the TV run of Star Trek, but only time will tell.
This has the theme of Star Trek, and very little else. The misogyny and racism (aka diversity) on display, are counter-pointed by the lack of continuity and logic.
So this show has some hit and misses but the misses are starting to out weight it all. Cartoon into living beings, god have you destroyed what could have gone amazing.
