Despite some minor flaws in design and execution, Beat the Beats VR stands out as an excellent option for those seeking alternatives to Beat Saber and Synth Riders. The boxing mechanics are well-implemented and function satisfactorily, offering a rewarding experience akin to a virtual workout.
Beat the Beats makes great use of VR's physicality to deliver some of the most enjoyably fresh rhythm gaming I've experienced in recent months. While the extras don't go particularly far, the developers have a big canvas to build on in the future and there are strong core mechanics here for very satisfying active VR sessions.
Combining music and boxing, Beat the Beats for PlayStation VR2 offers enjoyable rhythmic punching gameplay, but falls short due to a lackluster song selection with incomplete versions, limited replay value, and missed opportunities to engage players in improving their performance. Despite solid gameplay mechanics, it fails to match up to similar VR music games, ultimately feeling underwhelming.
