  • Summary: TrackMania, the series of racing games focusing on fun and frantic racing, now makes its debut on the Nintendo DS. Far from hardcore driving simulations, TrackMania is based on the fun and the spectacular aspect of racing. With TrackMania DS, you drive at mind-blowing speeds on incredible tracks made of jumps, loops, turbo boost pads and many other crazy design elements. Just like the renowned PC version, TrackMania DS offers a track editor that lets you create your own unique and exciting tracks from hundreds of different design blocks, giving the game near-infinite replay value. 1. From time to time a game really creeps out of nowhere and takes you by surprise. A handheld version of a cult PC game, Trackmania is one such gem. [Dec 2008, p.96]
  2. I'd definitely suggest Trackmania DS to anyone who was or is a fan of the PC title, and while the developers haven't managed to bring over every single detail to this handheld port, they've managed to really capture the essence of Trackmania to provide a great portable method of getting your fix.

Trackmania's beauty lies in its simple and pure game play. It isn't fancy but it's solid, looks great (really, really great) and controls like a dream. For a racing game on the DS, Trackmania gets the checkered flag for racing goodness on the go.
  4. TrackMania is a great addition to the DS’s racing library and should hopefully set the tone for games to come.

The same "Just one more race!" addictiveness of the PC version in the palm of your hand. It's not perfect, but it is very good and fun. It's a pity it doesn't also feature its big brother's competitive online offering, but that's why it gets an 8 instead of a 9. Best part is that it can be picked up a song these days. I recnetly bought it for $9 from Gamestop. Expand

while the controls are somehow more comlicated than on PC, this game is amazing. there is to odd bug that can get frustrating, but the amount of editing that can be done is just great Expand

Despite a few bugs and glitches, I found this game very fun and the editor is very simple and easy to understand. Worth what I paid for it.

I'm liking it, but the clipping issues can be a very frustrating issue. Some parts of several tracks, even though they are most definitely meant to be solid, aren't really. Your car will dip into these portions, and sometimes fall completely through them to the ground. In other cases, it will "jump" back out, but you'll be slowed enough by this that attaining any medal will be impossible. Impressive game for the DS for certain (I wasn't expecting it to rival the PC versions), but the clipping glitches really bring it down. Could've been an 8, at least, as far as I'm concerned. Expand
