  • Summary: Nintendo rereleases Excitebike on the Game Boy Advance, complete with all the high-flying action from the original NES game. As in the original, your biker must keep his balance while flying through the air, avoid getting clipped by other racers, and prevent his bike from overheating. In Design mode, you can make your own course--with all the ramps, mounds, bridges, and other obstacles in the game--and then save the design for your friends to race on. Collapse

  1. If you haven’t played this game, you need to. The game featured big tracks, jumps, engine heat, and a track editor. The only downfall was you couldn’t save tracks – the GBA fixes this.

Tons of people used to play this game in the arcade. It was cool then, and this version is the same, only smaller...and with a track designer. [Sept 2004, p.93]
  3. 75
Though the game's pulled off really well in the Famicom Mini version, the game has already been available twice on the GBA...so the air's been let out of the tires just a bit. It's still a worthy and amazingly fun addition to the classic collection.
  4. A solid trip down memory lane for fans of the original NES game. But is that trip worth $20? Probably not. If Excitebike had been part of a larger compilation of NES classics, it would be much more welcome.
  5. 60
Undeniably dated and simple, and the action is a bit plodding and straightforward. Fortunately, the underlying gameplay is good enough that it won't betray the fond nostalgia of older fans.
  6. The track-design feature allows you to create your own racing environment. [July 2004, p.121]
  7. Virtually every motocross game released for the GBA in the last three years is better than this one.
