After playing this game for a good portion of a day, I can say that Insurgence Chains of Renegade is a job well done by Platonic Game Studio.
Gameplay
The game is a 2D experience with a very classical execution of the RPG format. It is also referred to as a visual novel, which holds true as the visual scenes are excellent. The game does not lag on functional elements, however. The combat is turn based and will be extremely familiar to old or retro gamers. The playable characters can be leveled up and equipped with skills. There are over 40 skills for each character along with unique weapons and accessories for each. In terms of difficulty, there are 4 modes to choose from but it is only moderately tough even at the highest difficulty.
Story
There is a capturing story communicated in the dialogue which almost makes it seem like you are reading a book. The story revolves around trying to stop a war that is eminent in Aereon. However, you and your companions quickly discover that things are not what they seem. The story touches upon elements of friendship, war and rebellion resulting in a wholistic experience overall.
Sound and Graphics
Sound is a big part of the game. It uses sound not only to enhance the story and emotion in the game but also the combat. Besides sound effects, it has also licensed two soundtracks by “fleurishana” which really add to the personality of the game. It also does well in terms of graphics, the 2D graphics are fully HD with well-designed characters and environments. It also includes beautiful collectable artwork by various artists as an additional perk in the story.
Conclusion
Insurgence Chains of Renegade definitely gets the thumbs up from me. It is not the most complex game you will find, it is a simple and classic RPG. Platonic has stuck to the basics and done it right. It will be enjoyable for anyone needing a nostalgic RPG expreince.
This is a nice classic RPG experience with a good story and visual novel elements sprinkled in. The gameplay is enjoyable and there is still a lot of freedom to go and do what you would like to do in the game.
The art style and map building in general are very well done and they provide you with some nice visuals throughout the game wether it be character design or just a scene between major points in the game. If you are looking for a nice RPG experience then you'll get it while playing this game plus a little extra.
Also just a side note there are multiple levels of difficulty for either casual players, normal players, or people who are looking for a bit of a challenge. I reccomend this game and hope that you enjoy it too if you decide to play.
An Anime RPG with very fun story and characters. This game is full of everything:
Good graphics that will please your eyes,
Atmosphere music that seeps into your heart,
Characters that will make you laugh,
and awesome visual novel elements in a classic RPG game style. This part is especially fresh and interesting, as the battle is neat and beautiful.
It is well worth trying.
This Anime RPG game, with 10+ hours of gameplay is just pretty fun and enjoyable.
The game has 4 difficulties, which I really enjoy on every game I play, a huge load of weapons and skills, collectible artworks and BGM/Soundtracks. For people who like anime/manga I highly recommend to give it a try for such a cheap price.
The system requirements are pretty in count for nowadays.
Another interesting thing is the full controller support that it has.
Overall, if you like anime/manga/light novel you need to play this game.
Pros
+ The main character is specialized on "Black Mage" arts. Well, just look at my name.
+ Great character arts and CGs. By great, I meant it's really great. Far above your average RPG Maker games.
+ Amazing BGM. Most of them are just great and fit the theme on what situation you're currently in. Though there's some music that just annoying or out of place, but it's just a few of them.
+ Cheap price for all mentioned above.
Cons
- Field enemy always run towards you no matter the distance is, and they sometimes stuck and make a weird movement.
- The enemy affinity system relies on your memory. There's no bestiary AFAIK. Sometimes this leads to a trial and error on boss battle. Once you find the right skill, the battle is as good as over, or you just need to repeat it once.
- Some minor bug like sometimes you can't choose enemy for single target skill, warped to a wrong place, etc.
SummaryInsurgence is a 2D Role Playing Game with Visual Novel elements, Enjoy the classic RPG experience and discover the meaning of redemption and friendship within the Insurgence movement.
