The PS2's first college hoop game doesen't blow the roof off the arena.
The X button rebounds the ball and also is the shoot button on offense. In the heat of a game, you often throw up shots by accident.
Final Four does contain a few innovations, but it comes up short in every way possible.
With friends and the AI removed from the equation, it shines bright as an arcadey college hoops game for the fans; as a single-player recreation of the road to Final Four tournament, it lacks refinement and long-term replayability.
Looks solid visually, but the game has lost some of its gameplay speed in the transition to Sony's 128-bit console.
Despite its humongous selection of teams and clean-looking graphics, this version of Sony's college-hoops franchise is just as horrible as last year's "NCAA Final Four" on the PSX, thanks to lackluster, unbalanced gameplay and an incomplete control scheme.
If Sony doesn't care that crap like this is released for the PS2, they are going to start losing all respect and worse, consumers. You can already start to see a glimpse of the future and all I see right now is a big, green X.

Summary NCCA Final Four 2001 features relatively entertaining arcade-style hoops action, but the game's subpar graphics, lack of options, annoying control flaws, and lack of on-court atmosphere keep it from meeting those expectations.
