  • Summary: Now Windows gamers can download the official Retro Evolved game, and experience a pixel-perfect conversion of the Xbox 360 fan favourite. All of the original enemy and weapon types are present, complete with local leaderboards to track your high scores. With support for keyboard only, keyboard & mouse, and remappable joypad (dual or single stick), all gamers should be able to find a control method they are at home with. Likewise, you can run GW Vista in full screen mode, or in a resizable window, making it as versatile as you like. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved for Windows Vista was made entirely in-house by Bizarre Creations, with extensive input from the original Geometry Wars author Stephen Cakebread. 1. It's a relentless, addictive yet difficult to master arcade game that epitomises everything that was fun about the classic games it takes its inspiration from - it's easy to pick up yet hard to put down and the perfect game to lose a few spare minutes in.

It's the Tetris factor -- the minimalist design and the addictive, score-chasing nature keep you mesmerized for what can stretch to hours at a time. It's when you reach hour no. three of a marathon session -- having entered a Zen-like state as you attempt to send your high score into seven-digit territory -- that you realize the simple truth at work here: In a world of interactive stories and photo-realism, Geometry Wars is just a really fun game.
  3. A near perfect port at a perfect price point. [July 2007, p.76]
  4. Even more annoyingly, it requires Windows Vista, although there's no real justification for this: it's Direct X 9 and could happily run on XP. [May 2007, p.72]
  5. It's cheap ($3.95), quirky, flashy, and relatively fun. But I wouldn't recommend it in long doses, especially with most of the replay value cut.
  6. It's still splendid - it's just infuriating that so much of what makes it such a delight has been lost in translation.
  7. Geometry Wars is a classy arcade-style shooter, but this PC release is missing a ton of features that would make it last longer.

Geometry Wars plays great with keyboard and mouse, much easier then with an xBox controller (in my opinion). It is very addictive and intense game. Once you get past 200k point mark, things get really hectic with hundreds of units chasing and hundreds more spawning all over. It's great fun. By the way, contrary to what some reviews say this game DOES run on all versions of Windows XP as well as Vista. Expand

I love this game on 360 but it took the PC version with mouse and keyboard to bring me past the million mark. only 16 more to go to catch up with karnage. Expand

Has to be one of the most addicting games I've ever played. I just can't stop playing it!!!

Very fun and quite extreme after a few minutes, the game pulls some clever tricks that makes you scream and hit the bomb button in the hopes of lasting several more seconds! Steam version works fine in XP, plus used a Logitech controller, works perfectly. Expand

A great game. Calling this game rubbish for not having a story-line or anything other than one mode of play is silly - it costs a 15th of the price of many games. It's like critisising Toy Story for being childish; what more where you expecting? Expand

For how simplistic the game mechanics are, this game is a HUGE triumph. Don't expect a story, characters, online play, nor a vast array of PC configuration options. That being said, the game is still addicting and ramps up quickly after about 5-10 minutes of gameplay. You will find yourself trying to beat your own high scores in this arcade game, and it has good use as a quick 5-15 minute time killer. The game supports a vast array of resolutions and has antialiasing and aspect ratio options as well, though I couldn't tell the difference between the two aspect ratio options. Expand

The game has a minimum longevity.
Graphically it is nice but like him there are many other indie games that deserve more attention.
    The game
supports the Xbox 360 gamepad to play well, but for more than two hours becomes extremely boring and repetitive.
I do not understand how you can give ratings such as 10 for a game like that.
