  • Summary: In Resident Evil 4, Special Agent Leon S. Kennedy is dispatched on a mission to rescue the U.S. President’s daughter who has been kidnapped. Wending his way to a rural village in Europe, he faces new threats that are a departure from the traditional lumbering zombie enemies of the earlier installments in the series. Leon battles horrific new creatures infested by a new threat called Las Plagas and faces off against an aggressive group of enemies including mind-controlled villagers that are tied to Los Illuminados, the mysterious cult which is behind the abduction. The definition of survival horror genre today - grown more beautiful with age.

This time, the conversion of this classic is loyal to the original game published in 2005 on GameCube. Even if this is a lazy port, technically speaking, it is still one of the best survival horror games ever made, and you ought to play it if you didn't before. Period.

All of that said, if you haven't played it yet, the $20 that Capcom is asking for RE4 Ultimate is well worth it.

PC players finally have access to a proper port of the game. It may be showing its age, but Resident Evil 4 HD stands as the best version available. There is about 30 hours of content in this edition, which runs for a reasonable $20.

Does it make sense to spend 20 € to play Resident Evil 4 in 2014? Who already knows everything about this 2005 classic made in Capcom maybe is gonna wait for a better offer on Steam. For all the others this PC port is mandatory and even if the game has some bitterness here and there, it remains one of the best Shinji Mikami's creations, as well as a true masterpiece.

It´s a great classic that has took too long to arrive to PC in a optimal condition. It´s a bit outdated now, but its soul and quality are still there for anyone wanting to discover or rediscover it.

A bare bones port that embodies everything PC gamers hate about lazy console conversions. Capcom should have let this one rest in peace.

Arguably the best Resident Evil game made so far brought to Steam with Achievements, high defiition textures and the same ass-kicking factor as the game had on its release for only 20 god damn dollars? I say hell **** yes. Expand

Yahoo! I've been waiting for RE4 to come to the Xbox 360. I have it on the WI but that controller/numchuck combo is a pain to use. The level in RE4 where you fight the zombie with the white spots you have to shoot in the lab is still the scariest moment in gaming history, IMO. Expand

This will always be the best game ever, there isn't really much else to say. The graphics are starting to show their age, but what do you expect for 8 years. Expand

This is the best RE ever and it's inumerous qualities have been discussed since it's launch on Game Cube. It deserved a 10/10 back then, hands down. But almost 10 years later, only a complete remake would guarantee such high score. This is not what you'll get here, though. Far from it.

But... This is the best PC version, so I can't give it less than 7.

The game is simply endless levels of bad guys coming at you that require shooting to death, or in some cases karate kicking or blowing up. The story is clichéd drivel, involving the Illuminati (Los Illuminados) and some zombie type infection-plague, with occasional references to Umbrella. I know this is considered a great classic, but playing for the first time in 2014, it takes a while to get used to. The controls and over-shoulder camera view are not very satisfying. Effectively the game is just about grinding and blasting your way from one environment to the next, in the search of an important young woman who has been kidnapped by some shady people – comical villains really. There are some puzzles along the way, but the boss fights are more challenging … According to my Steam stats I killed almost 900 enemies and it took over 16 hours to complete. That’s a lot of shooting. I may be in the minority here, but I actually remember enjoying RE5 more than this one. That being said, the game provides incredibly good value for money. According to my calculations each enemy I killed cost me 1.7p, based on 886 enemies taken care of, from an outlay of £15. I also died 92 times, apparently, so that’s 16p per death!
Some comments on the port – I have never seen the original version or the previous PC version/s, so cannot compare. Yes I experienced a few annoyances, not just related to the controls. However, I never had any issues that impacted on my game experience other than a serious slow-down in FPS that happened sporadically. If we had better viewing angles and camera controls, this would have made a big difference.

It isn't worse! I just think Capcom and I have very different ideas of what a "re-texture" is. It looks like it's running through a dolphin emulator! I barely see any updates in the graphics besides a higher resolution. The mouse aiming is not 1 to 1, raw mouse input; your mouse is emulating a joystick. You are at the mercy of your sensitivity settings. this isn't news to a console gamer, but when your mouse is off the desk before you were able to turn as much as you wanted . . . not a good thing. Don't even get me started on user interface and keyboard-only menu navigation - "backspace," "delete" & "Page down" is how they want you to arrange your suitcase (which they don't tell you) out of ALL the keys on a keyboard. Why not just use the keys I've BEEN using? Expand

Wonderful game. However, it crashes so often that it's almost unplayable - I've attempted all possible graphics settings to no avail. None of the support links work - I get redirected to a Ubisoft (who produced this game) page that no doesn't exist. If they fix the many, many bugs I'll give this a good review. As of now, I'm angry that I spent $20 on an unplayable game. Expand
