  • Summary: Split/Second, an intense action racing game set within the world of a hyper-competitive reality television show. Competitors vie to be the first across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. Competitors in Split/Second don't just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track -- they can also trigger explosive events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use strategy and pinpoint timing to derail opponents, tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes. [Disney] Expand

  1. Though initially it tends to be a bit on the easy side and learning when and where to use which power-plays is a case of trial and error, it’s not long before the game escalates into a nail-bitingly intense experienc
  2. Split/Second may not revolutionize the genre, but its screenfilling explosions and stunning looks are making it a title, that may not only be interesting for racing-fans, but also for everyone, who simply likes to blow stuff up - Hollywood-Style!

Split/Second has so much going for it that it's easy to recommend for kart and arcade racing fans alike. The visuals are great, the sound impresses, and there's enough game between the singleplayer season mode and fun multiplayer to last you quite a while.
  4. Stability issues notwithstanding, this explosive new arcade racer is just about as compulsive as they come. [July 2010, p.102]

  2. This is a thrilling and action-packed game! All the different game modes are great and add variety. Graphics look great, especially the explosions (which are plentiful!). Unfortunately the only real progression in this game is unlocking new cars and tracks, etc., no real customization of cars, which isn't actually a big deal. It's also pretty hard to find a multiplayer match, which is a shame, but overall, this is great game, especially for the current price of $20. Expand

This game is really beautiful and spectacular. Driving is both exciting and interesting.
Unfortunately there seems to be so much going under
the hood (for example the helicopter moving its supposedly locked target at the last minute sometimes) that you don't really have control over the outcome. You can be great one race and finish 4th while being first the next one without doing anything special. Collisions are a bit random too: sometimes they get you into a crash and sometimes not. Crash are in the same state: sometimes they make you go from 2nd place to 8th, sometimes they seem to make you gain places oO (though it may just be that opponents had troubles while you where crashing). All in all it seems pretty random to me. Don't be mistaken, it's still pleasing but you have to relax, enjoy the ride and don't care too much about the outcome. Expand

This game is appealing for the first 3-4 hours, because of it's great visuals, nice music and all the action, but that is all there is to it. There are no tactics in this game, it's oversimplified and boring. The PC version is simply bad. The multiplayer is unbalanced, there are no car classes, so everyone uses the fastest cars. There are no Free DLC cars for the PC. Very high graphics settings heat up your videocard. Expand
