  • Summary: Set during the Vietnam War, Vietcong is a first person shooter with tactical elements. Vietcong combines thrilling action with strategic thinking. The evolving storyline combined with the game's intense sound system, graphics and animation truly bring powerful jungle combat to life on your PC. Acting as an elite soldier, players of Vietcong command the A-team, part of the U.S. Special Forces, in realistically represented Vietnamese environments. Players will lead as many as six expertly trained soldiers through 20 dramatic missions, and follow a storyline that captures the danger, fear and unpredictability of the war itself. 1. One of its most remarkable accomplishments is the way gunfights play out like gunfights rather than shooting galleries. [July 2003, p.88]
  2. Vietcong can provide some tense and enjoyable gameplay, but also serves up some very frustrating levels that will try the patience of many gamers. With a bit more polish and consistent level design Vietcong would be a really good game.
  3. They've managed to make a consistent game world and suck the player into it. The fact remains, however, that including more mundane and frustrating elements of real world warfare is a double-edged blade, especially when some of the other technical elements of your game are not up to snuff - like the AI, or clunky engine.

Single player has one of the best campaign experience ever. Weapons are unique respectively . the story is rich as good war movie out there, but not overly-dramatic like those ordinal WW2 shooters. Various locations drawn/built in fine detail. Perfect shooting balance between realistic shooter and arcade action. Truly a masterpiece. Expand

Although it has a lot to offer in terms of realism and the jungle atmosphere is quite immersive, the laughably buggy AI (teammates getting stuck in trenches is a common problem) and slow pace of some of the movement will deter a lot of people. This tried hard but was let out of the door too early -- and it's NOT as good as Delta Force: Blackhawk Down, a much more polished game. Expand
