  • Summary: Throughout three explosive PS one titles, Destruction Derby strapped you into powerful cars and encouraged you to dash and smash your way to the chequered flag. At long last, the PS2 offspring rumbles out of the pits and as well as being a highly polished, purring powerhouse of stock-car action, you can take on the world thanks to the online multiplayer option. Race to the finish or smash the opposition to pieces, but whichever you choose you can kiss goodbye to your No Claims Bonus. Fast and furious online or offline auto-madness. Up to 20 player motor-mayhem online. 17 insane courses to blaze through. 20 deadly drivers each with detailed backgrounds and on-going stories. Lobby chat via the USB headset. [SCEE] Expand

  1. It is fun for the same reason that something like Serious Sam is fun to play: the simplicity of it all. Fans of previous games may be a little turned off by the new arcade-like gameplay, though.
  2. The game’s modest modes of play, underwhelming presentation, and ill-conceived points system are a far cry from the series’ glory days, but the gameplay is solid and the courses can be a lot of fun under the right circumstances.
  3. Lots of arcade-style crash and bash, but the offline game's rather thin, so online play is probably the deciding buy-or-rent factor. [May 2004, p.40]
  4. Even crash-test dummies would yawn at this wreckage. [June 2004, p.96]
