  1. I am happy to report that after many hours of lost sleep, hearing things that weren’t really there, and near fatal heart attacks it definitely is not only the most terrifying game experience I have ever had, but one of the more solid ones I have had as well.
  2. If you're one of those gamers with a predilection for The Creeps - you know who you are - Fatal Frame is simply a must-see.
  3. Genuinely disturbing survival horror, dripping with menace. [Jan 2007, p.106]
  4. 79
Quite an inventive piece of survival horror, managing to keep the fright up and the frustration down with a few smart design decisions and an abundance of creepy style.
  5. The enemies are tougher and more frequent in the brutal second half, but I still enjoyed every thrilling moment. [May 2002, p.106]
  6. Miku might be doing the same thing over and over through four chapters (divided in the game as 'Night 1-4'), but the tension and atmosphere of dread that this game continually builds is about on par with that of an interactive version of "The Sixth Sense".
  7. With gameplay as shallow as this, you’d expect it all to work smoothly. Unfortunately, it doesn't.

This game keeps me in the edge of my seat, and my heart beating amazingly fast. The only game that creates this fear with more intensity is Silent Hill, but this one gets really close. A must have for horror fans. Expand

It is a 9 for me just because the other 2 were longer. It's good for what it is and this kind of game isn't supposed to have weapons and action so forget about that, this isn't silent hill. This is slow paced and scary so it is supposed to surprise you and make you jump when it's quiet and you don't know what to expect. Weapons and a lot of fighting would ruin it badly. Expand

About to beat this for the first time and while I readily admit that it is consistently creepy and occasionally intense, it is not nearly as 'scary' as "Silent Hill" (and its three immediate sequels). The best thing going for it is easily the story behind it and the folklore found within while its weakest link, by far, is the awful voice acting (for the US version). When all is said and done, it trounces the "Resident Evil" series easily though... is that really that hard to do? and I am looking forward to booting up the sequel. Expand

Fatal Frame could have been acceptable, but the lack of weapons and action really hurt the game. Truly disappointing.
