Action games aren't the best pick on touch devices, but The Gods: Rebellion manages to offer good fun with a decent control system at a killer price.
The Gods: Rebellion sticks inside the well defined borders of a 3D action-brawler, even going so far as to retain the 'fallen gods' angle, and while not original it's still a solid romp.
It's simple and brutish, but there's a lot of violent fun to be had in The Gods: Rebellion, and the combo system makes each crunching blow that bit more satisfying.
‘The God’s: Rebellion’ is the game equivalent of fast food – pretty (tasty), not exactly good for you (not much depth), but you can’t help having more. It might not be the most sophisticated title, but there’s a thousand other App Store games for that. If you’re in the mood for the simple act of putting pointed steel to soft demon flesh, you could do far worse.
The Gods: Rebellion is no God of War killer. It’s quite linear, its controls need some touching-up, and the suggestions for in-app purchases (which are doled out whenever you die) are sure to cheese some players off. That said, the game looks fantastic and it still manages to offer a button-mashing good time—at least until all that button-mashing misfires and you start executing the wrong attacks.
While it's pretty to look at, The Gods: Rebellion offers an inconvenient control layout and relies too heavily on lengthy arena battles. At moments it shines, but those moments are few and far between.
The Gods: Rebellion is boring above all else and is one to steer clear of unless you like being a glutton for punishment.
