Far from perfect, the game comes on strong with enough realism and excellent control to shake a bat at.
I have played all three PS2 baseball games and TP is by far the most entertaining in terms of scoring a lot of runs, racking up a lot of strikeouts, and looking at eye candy. To hold TP to a simulation-standard would be putting it in the wrong genre.
No flash, no pop, just a straight-up baseball game that looks great and plays okay. [Apr 2002, p.76]

Skill may be virtually impossible to develop in TP2002. The batting interface is so basic it’s nearly laughable.
Compared to smoother, more realistic titles such as "High Heat" (and to a lesser extent, "All-Star Baseball"), this is an embarrassment. [June 2002, p.114]
