  • Summary: Mario Kart 8 introduces new racing circuit designs and antigravity karts that will have players driving upside down. Players will also enjoy a variety of series-favorite features, including the return of 12-player online competitive play, hang-gliders, underwater racing and motorbikes.

    Mario Kart 8 is a return of one of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises, and is just as chaotic as ever.

    Mario Kart 8 is a beast: with great track design, plenty of characters, karts, bikes and power ups is the best Mario Kart of all time. Also thanks to revamped online modes and some gorgeous graphics, is the single reason you need to own a Wii U.

    With some new great features added to the classic recipe, with beautiful graphics and spectacular races, Mario Kart 8 looks like the killer app the Wii U was waiting for.

    The best Mario Kart ever. All faults are forgiven when you're drifting the inside of a vertical corner. [Issue#250, p.58]

    It’s safe to say that this is the best Mario Kart since the SNES days, and that’s a pretty heavy statement.

    Mario Kart 8 is pretty great in many ways, but undoubtedly moreso with a collection of friends to play with, or when facing off against other players online.

    Despite this game’s gleaming high-definition sheen, there’s little doubt this granddaddy of the karting genre is beginning to show its age.

    Mario Kart 8 is the game WII U owners deserve, after the WII U'S bad start, mediocre 3rd party ports and long droughts it's amazing that one game can make everything right. The graphics are top notch and are on par with most released PS4 games. The game play is fun and addictive. There's excellent variety of tracks, vehicles, characters and customization. The online mode offers great competition and excellent replay value. Now for the downside, some tracks look muggy and there's an unnecessary use of the anti gravity in some tracks. The online mode lacks voice chat during the race, I would've enjoyed vocally taunting some players. The online mode does suffer from lag depending on the region you play in. Overall the game is the best game so far in 2014, PURE NINTENDO MAGIC Expand

    Ya know, I expected this game to feel like something I've already played. I remember playing the crap out of Mario Kart 64 nearly two decades ago.

    But this game just feels like a fresh new acid trip of epic proportions. You'd have to be incredibly jaded to not have a blast with this game and a couple of friends.

    This game is tons of fun, great for single player, multiplayer or online! the one and only issue I have with this game is they ruined battle mode...however when it comes to the racing, it's the best Mario Kart to date. Expand

    Almost perfect. There are a few niggles that prevent me from rating it 10/10, those being the following;

    You can't change kart or character
    between races, so you have to completely drop out

    You can't invite friends and party up and join online together, so one friend has to join and hope there's enough slots for everyone

    There's a bug that kicks everyone from the lobby if someone leaves without picking a course

    The Battle Mode is awful, bring back the old arenas!

    No on-screen map

    Those niggles aside it's a fantastic game and well worth buying a Wii U for, hopefully we'll see a patch to correct some of these issues and DLC to add more content in the future.
