In so many ways, on many levels, Renegade Ops is one of the most refreshingly enthusiastic action games of the year.

Renegade Ops feels like the model of a fantastic downloadable game designed to the strengths of digital distribution. It's big, loud, sort of dumb, and a ton of fun because it focuses on one thing, and does that one thing exceedingly well. For $15, what more do you want?

Renegade Ops sees Avalanche successfully putting a thoroughly modern spin - and more than a few spin-outs - on well-worn mechanics. If you're reading, EA, we know just the team for that Strike reboot.

  1. Renegade Ops is a simple, good looking downloadable bundle of fun. Avalanche, the developers of the equally fun Just Cause 2, know that on occasion, video games should be nothing but silly, explosive fun. And that's what Renegade Ops is. It's a top down, dual joystick shooter in which you control a car with guns and you blow **** up. That's about it, and if you can find anything wrong with that, then you shouldn't play it. The only real faults I have with it is it's price, the game is relatively short, with moderately low retail value, but the 5ish hours you will spend with it are a ton of fun. I have also encountered two full, hard freezes right at the end of a level when the game saves, the first time it managed to save the game, but the second time my save was lost and had to replay the level, but that was okay because the game is simply fun. If you have points and not much to play, pick this up, it's a bunch of simple video game fun. Expand
