  • Summary: Backbone Entertainment has created a stunning against-all-odds blaster, where four new heroes must attempt to survive a zombie uprising. The quartet is stranded on a remote island which is under siege from an army of the dead. Using whatever weapons come to hand, the player must scour the island looking for survivors and eliminating the flesh-eaters in order to create safe zones.

The action is viewed from an elevated position, with the player central to the action. As the undead attack from all directions, the player uses both control sticks to turn and shoot in all directions, with extra items discarded by fortunate survivors instantly added to an inventory. Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone also introduces a new squad-based mechanism, which allows players to work together. A new class-based system allows users to switch weapons between each other, and also distribute powers and energy to those that need it.

Features a hilariously bad English accent. [Jan 2012, p.89]

Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone combines simple Gameplay with an homage to Pure Pwnage and it has zombies in it. What more could you want? Fans of either humorous takes on the undead or the Pure Pwnage show will enjoy this one.

Developer Backbone nails something few games do -- its co-op actually requires cooperation, even if you're cycling through the four likable characters in single-player.

Backbone did a good job by implementing gameplay that is obviously meant for four player co-operation. Never Die Alone is quite challenging, requiring a bit of tactical thinking. The last levels will bore you however, because the game is rather monotonous.

If you've got the original, you don't really need to bother. [Issue#79, p.101]
  6. Nov 21, 2011
A more dynamic and engaging game than the first zombie killer, Never Die Alone upgrades the cooperative aspect and makes sure you enjoy it's disappointingly short duration.
  7. A laugh-free and miserable undead slog. [Christmas 2011, p.111]

A really enjoyable multiplayer experience on both Live and local co-op. Graphics are ho-hum and characters are not particularly enjoyable. I've been hit with some saved game bugs where if you max out all of your characters and then jump in a local multiplayer game your character stats will reset. Still this is a really fun game that I would recommend, especially if you are a zombie fan. Expand
