Director Jesse V. Johnson sprinkles in enough cruel twists of fate and melancholy-laced flashbacks to prevent Avengement from becoming just another disposable exercise in action sadism on a budget. The real credit, though, goes to Adkins, who one of these days will hopefully get called up to the Hollywood big leagues and wind up surprising a lot of people — and grin while he’s doing it.

A legendary action film with lots of violent fight scenes & revenge ! Besides that i think the story is good for this type of films and the performances are all right, overall bloody entertaining.

Surprisingly good action film - great performances from the 'b' movie cast, excellent fight choreography and editing with a decent screenplay to boot. Not exactly the most original plot for the genre but it was clearly a labour of love with an excellent production quality and visual effects (loved the gore!). A definite must watch for action genre fans.

If what you’re looking for it fists of fury, he can provide them. And if you’re looking for signs that a guy who is playing heavies in small roles in big budget pictures is growing as a performer, that he and Johnson have gotten better since “Debt Collector,” just not all that much, Avengement is going to be your kind of movie.

Endless boring and repetitive prison fight scenes cut with scenes of the protagonist in a bar talking about said prison fights. The story is extremely forgettable.
