Way overrated. Just because it is a foreign film released in the US does not mean it should get high scores. Anyway, the movie is over dramatic and leans ton heavily on melodrama.

A genuinely compassionate and revealing movie about Central American immigrants desperately escaping poverty and oppression at home and trying to find gainful employment in America. Yet, the movie forces itself toward an unconvincing, tragic ending. Crossing borders between nations may be forgiven but why this generally decent movie crosses from solid realism to hogwash sentimentality... This movie is very REAL and not unconvincing. It is a movie and should have a happy ending like a marriage and stuff but it would go against what the director is getting at. Its about what truly happens in this world even though one is good and compassionate. It shows the evils of this world working against humans. It has a very religious air to it. It is important to understand religion This movie is very REAL and not unconvincing. Nava has made a film that is essentially indistinguishable from "Love Story."

Comes across as a kind of giant Renaissance canvas.
