The movie is very small in scale, but the performances are appealing and Fernandez's screenplay casts an interesting light on the main characters' self-images as Latina women.
With wonderful music, interesting characters, and lots of laughter, this picture feels much bigger than it really is.
Breezy and eminently watchable.
An occasionally charming, sometimes amateurish film .
There are surprising grace notes in all the performances, and familiar, friendly faces pop up in supporting roles.
Comes off as nothing more than a TV soap opera, with overwrought acting, simplistic dialogue and a generic plot.
It is a traffic jam of broken hearts, fluxing racial identities and deplorable outfits that has everything but a salsa overhaul of "I Will Survive."
