It’s nicely-detailed, with decent effects, moderate suspense and a distinctly Korean approach to how this sort of calamity might go down in an Asian country where saving face, keeping “order” and maintaining authority play havoc with the public safety.
Throwing in a natural catastrophe in the form of an earthquake as well as a nuclear power generator meltdown for good measure, Pandora ticks off all the current societal scares and packs them into one slightly bloated, often-shrieking action drama that nevertheless gets the job done despite its worst narrative instincts.

Pandora is an alright movie, good special effects and scenes, but it's very dramatic. And quite unscientific. apparently the events in the movie would be worse than the **** meltdowns and the absolutely devastating Chernobyl explosion. clearly the director knows nothing about power plants. But overall, if you like dramatic Korean movies then you should watch this at some point.

To be a disaster film and therefore should be more focused on entertainment, it feels too dramatic.
It's true that the subject isn't something to be taken lightly, but even so the film doesn't manage to balance its themes in a good way and that diminished my enjoyment.

Un film-catastrophe coréen à propos d’une grosse catastrophe nucléaire (et votre coeur fait boum, youp là boum et le coeur du réacteur très réactionnaire réagit et fait boum-boum…!). On retrouve évidemment tout ce qu’on a (déjà) pu voir dans l’excellente série Chernobyl mais de façon beaucoup moins rigoureuse, précise ou aussi prenante… difficile bien sûr de s’approcher de la référence en la matière mais tout de même !
On a donc pas mal de guimauve bien que de façon relativement contenue, surtout s’agissant d’un film coréen (on connaît leur propension au mélodrame et aux épanchements excessifs en la matière) ; on a aussi un début vraiment poussif qui rappelle les films-catastrophe américains typiques avec un temps d’exposition (hum, hum !) vraiment trop long.
D’une manière plus générale, le film traîne en longueurs et s’avère étonnamment prévisible… par ailleurs les comédiens surjouent un peu trop souvent, ce qui a le mauvais don d’énerver… à force ! Néanmoins on doit reconnaître à ce Pandora une réalisation de fort bon aloi et des effets spéciaux tout à fait convaincants. Les travers habituels dans une telle situation sont évoqués avec justesse comme par exemple les défaillances de sécurité, d’entretien, la bureaucratie qui traîne les pieds (pléonasme) le gouvernement dépassé qui minimise (pléonasme) et finalement la panique générale… du classique !
Tout cela reste insuffisant pour convaincre même si on apprécie les intentions et les moyens qui ont été déployés… Au bout d’une heure trente et cela rejoint le souci déjà mentionné plus haut, on s’attend à la conclusion imminente mais il reste pas loin de 45 minutes supplémentaires à se taper ! dommage d’avoir sombré dans une telle répétition.
