Like “Green Book,” The Greatest Beer Run Ever is a broad historical outing based on real people and real events, condensed down into an essence that can only be billed as “crowd-pleasing.” The trick this time: Farrelly seems far more aware of how he’s playing fast and loose with history to offer a zippy feature to a fractured world. Dare we say it: It works far better.
Farrelly shows us the formative experience, but only a little of its consequence. Perhaps too much consideration of that would make the whole thing seem something less than great.

I just went to the Mystery Movie Monday at Regal and they showed The Greatest Beer Run Ever.
Omg such a great movie!
Zac Efron, Russell Crowe, and Bill Murray all star in it, and it's based on a true story.
Loved it!
Fantastic balance of comedy to sincerity while retelling a stunning true-life account of the Vietnamese War. I feel very blessed to have went to an early screening to be able to say that I was surprised and completely enjoyed my cinematic experience despite going into it with no idea what I was in for, which ironically, is exactly what Chickie did when he chose to embark on this astounding journey in 1967.
I'd say this is a must-see!

Depth comes from Efron’s visible difficulty maintaining a smile as he comes to sense that he’s crossed the ocean only to discover a permanent gulf between him and his childhood friends. They’ve endured agonies he’ll never understand — and a barfly like him can’t deliver a cheers that will set things right.
It’s hard to tell if The Greatest Beer Run Ever is a comedy that wants to be a drama or a drama that wants to be a comedy. Of course, a film can be both. This one, alas, is neither.
[Farrelly's] latest commits itself to regurgitating every Vietnam cliche with the laziest possible visual diction, led by an emotionally overextended Zac Efron.
“The Greatest Beer Run Ever” lumbers and meanders, and not just because the structure isn’t there. What we’re seeing, on a human level, is only half-interesting and rather slipshod. Like “Green Book,” “Greatest Beer Run” is based on a true story, but what Peter Farrelly responded to in that story translates, this time, into a token “relevant” boomer nostalgia that hasn’t been fully thought through.
Feels manipulative and glib ... Farrelly’s tendency toward simplistic bromides in Green Book is even more egregious here.
In short, more brilliant, tangible and thought-provoking than it had any business creating out of the premise (though it is technically a true story, so they had some help)
The title of this movie is misleading, it's not a fun story about a guy and his friends on an adventure with wild antics. It may start out like that, but as it goes on it becomes so much more profound than that. The growth of Zack Effron's character (Chickie) is the most well earned and entirely sympathetic. The stance on the Vietnam War feels transparent and widely representing of various viewpoints but the movie itself does take it's own stance which might offput some audience members with strong unyielding patriotism. I feel that it doesn't attack this support of the controversial Vietnam War as other more heavy fisted movies might, with characters in that line of thinking (Namely Bill Murray's Colonel) being shown in a positive light. Hopefully this will be a great talking point to allow people from both sides to be able to understand the opinion of one other regarding war in general. However, if nothing else it is a truly beautiful and endearing movie that blends comedy and poignant heart wrenching moments without feeling jolting. Everything is transitions smoothly one moment into the next even while fitting a massive amount of story into just over 2 hours. One of the most well told stories I've ever seen put to pixels.

Thought it had some funny parts, nothing to bad about the film. True story and a damn good one at that. Zach Efron played the part pretty well. Wasn't great, wasn't bad.

Not every real event in the history of humanity needs to be adapted to the big screen. 'The Greatest Beer Run Ever' ignores that and tells this dumb story about a guy risking everyone for a whim. Feels like a lesser "Forrest Gump."
