Look, fun is fun, and there’s plenty of the kitschy brand to be had from the riot of late-‘60s production design and lurid plot developments.
Valley of the Dolls is a great movie in the very same way that Showgirls is a great movie. Rent it and howl.
What we have here is a dirty soap opera. It is dirty because it intends to be, but it is a soap opera only by default.
Parkins and Tate, the latter particularly good, suffer from under-emphasis in early reels, and corny plot resolution.
Too dull even to function as camp.
It's an unbelievably hackneyed and mawkish mish-mash of backstage plots and Peyton Place adumbrations in which five women are involved with their assorted egotistical aspirations, love affairs and Seconal pills.
