Competent trouping and topflight production make Without Love a click. But there’s no gainsaying the general obviousness of it all, along with a somewhat static plot basis [from a play by Philip Barry].
Miss Hepburn gives a mischievous performance as the girl who really wants to be chased, and Mr. Tracy is charmingly acerbic when confronted with her cool or coy wiles.
Not one of the team's best, but enough fun flowed from the combined pens of Barry (who wrote the play) and Stewart (who wrote the screenplay) to make it a pleasant comedy.
One of the dreariest films in the Katharine Hepburn-Spencer Tracy series; it has a metallic flavor.
This 1944 Hepburn-Tracy pairing is so undistinguished that it's nearly dropped out of the history books.
