It’s meant as escapism, not realpolitik, and we should have faith people know the difference. Yes, there are flaws in the series, but in the first three episodes it keeps you hooked.
It's action escapism, not homework, and with Hawkins as a sturdy lead and a string of chases, gunfights and a couple of decent stunts, 24: Legacy mostly does its job.
10 Episodes watched, and in my opinion it still feels like 24, yes it takes some getting used to, especially with the new cast but this is only the first season of Legacy and I think it'll incorporate well with the previous seasons of the original 24.
It is unreasonable for anyone to expect Carter to be like Jack Bauer or to act like him. It's natural to get so attached to a character/actor that one believes the film begins and ends with them. Consider the James Bond movies...Brosnan vs. Craig....each brought their own charisma and flare to the character. Yet they were both great. I also think that the current racially charged atmosphere makes it difficult for some to accept that a Black hero can actually lead the charge against terrorists. They are accustomed seeing White males in this role.....that may be the real issue some have with Carter. Nevertheless, he is doing a great job in "HIS" role, he is not filling in for Bauer.
The 24 franchise still takes itself very seriously and perhaps will somehow sort things out from a basic believability standpoint as time marches on. But in the first four hours, it’s too often 24: Cuckoo Clock.
Seeing Jack go through the old motions in 2014 revival season Live Another Day had a certain nostalgic appeal, but without him Legacy is mostly just a pointless retread.
Hawkins is a compelling presence, and his handling of the show’s signature action sequences suggests an actor who can carry a show. But as a character, Eric Carter is a bit of a dud, with a snooze of a backstory that does little to enliven him.
Thanks almost single-handedly to Kirk's performance it's modestly watchable, and there's a touch of "RoboCop" in the premise of a private entity taking control of an ailing police force. Yet even seen through that sci-fi lens, "APB" looks less far-fetched than "24."
For all the offense that could be culled from this woefully self-serious, violence-solves-everything nonsense, what’s most troubling about 24: Legacy is how little it cares about the inner workings of its characters.
Will Keep this short. Solid acting, great script, great plot, drama, mystery, suspense, a grittier version of the original 24. Can't wait to see how it unfolds.
"24: Legacy" maintains the thrill, adrenaline rush, and rocket pacing of the original "24"; however, the plot feels stale, and the dialogue and characters are unrealistic and predictable. Overall, "24: Legacy" is unmemorable stupid fun.
Honestly, this show just feels like a poorly directed remake of the original. In the original, the viewers got a look into Jack's head, our new hero seems to copy Jack's push-forward-never-look-back attitude without any reason as to why he would take on this same mentality -- it seems a bit forced. Some of the timing is off and people occasionally seem to have teleported from place to place with little to no time ticking off the clock. Many of the critical scenes are just poorly directed. Sad!
I so badly wanted this to be good - I loved the original 24 Series (all of them) although the most recent movie was pretty lame. This series though just never gets going. The characters are ok but the storyline just never left the pulse racing....I was never desperate to get to the next episode like I was with the original series. As others have said - CTU is so incredibly **** seems that just about anyone can break in physically or hack in and steal the world's secrets.....c'mon **** can make better TV than this
I wanted to like this, but the incompetence of CTU each hour is making me weary. I'm at the point where I'm hoping the John Donovan and his insufferable wife Rebecca get taken out by the evil terrorists and the whole thing gets wrapped up by John Carter and his brother's posse. 8 or 9 hours in and CTU has gotten NOTHING right.
