Creepshow’s first pair of ghoulish tales so solidly nail what made the original so beloved (an unabashed sense of look-what-we-can-get-away-with fun) that it’s easy to get swept up in its own appreciation for the dark material. It might not all be perfect in the coming episodes, but it’ll certainly be a good gamble.
At its best — something you could say for horror as a genre — the season works when its concepts are simple, and the writers don’t make leaps and bounds to overcomplicate them.
I remember renting the VHS tapes of the original Creepshow and watching them with my family and friends. Well, this show felt like meeting an old pal, that time hasn't aged at all, but in the contrary, was made even better. I enjoyed every horror story and every moment of it. I hope there are many more seasons coming.
For me this was an amazing series really well done! Love the homage to the originals! Can’t wait for a second instalment, they should throw more budget at this, though the production and cast were all excellent.
Shudder’s Creepshow bottles the original’s pulpy spirit, using the atmosphere and variety provided by shorter segments for an irresistibly macabre package.
Casual horror fans may not really get the appeal of Creepshow, but it's not made for them anyway. Horror aficionados, on the other hand, will find a lot to like.
With only one episode available, it’s tough to get a gauge of consistency, but the tone and aesthetic Nicotero is striving for, at least, fill my horror-loving heart with joy.
Only one episode was sent for review and it’s a mediocre affair, but anthology series are inherently going to fluctuate in quality and this horror fan will be checking out episodes to come for sure.
It's definitely trying to capture the magic of the first Creepshow movie, and not failing at it either. The nostalgically kitschy comic book effects actually help it get around its obvious production budget limitations on a few occasions. The stories are original enough without looking like they're trying too hard, and for those horror fans (of which there are many) who feel like the movie franchise could have done more with itself after the original, it feels like saying hello to an old friend. For those who don't feel any attachment to the movie, it will seem cheaply made, not shocking enough and a little on the hokey side. But it's not made for them.
Really enjoyed the first episode (2 stories per episode). As a youngster, I was fascinated / horrified by the Original Creepshow movie so was intrigued to see this TV series in production. Went in quite unsure after seeing reviews here but was very pleasantly surprised. They've really captured the vibe of the earlier film / comic. Full of strange camera angles, comic book animations, slightly lurid colours, fun easter eggs (my favourite being the teeny tiny "Shining" style rug in the dolls house), I found little to complain about. Highly recommended, really hope the next episodes keep up the quality of the first.
Oh, This Is Bad - I Mean REALLY BAD This new CREEPSHOW series should be avoided. The originality is non-existent. The production value is years below a standard community access cable production. The writing is atrocious. The performances are lackadaisical and stiff. This is yet another money grab from unqualified folk milking the Stephen King brand. My garbage even said 'When I grow up, I aspire to be just like this series.'.
