    It seems impossible to say enough for the unfailing wit and nuance of Sally Wainwright's script, or for the skill that shaped this mix of family melodrama and romantic comedy into the marvelous brew it is.

    When it’s the two leads, the effect is utterly charming. But the circumstances that set all this in motion, while relegated to the background, tend to occasionally get in the way.

    It's obvious that Sally Wainwright is super talented. The dialogue is brilliant -- it's witty, sarcastic, poignant, and deeply moving all atIt's obvious that Sally Wainwright is super talented. The dialogue is brilliant -- it's witty, sarcastic, poignant, and deeply moving all at once. Equally stunning are the performances. Sarah Lancashire's subtle but powerful performance is simply mind-blowing. That said, the story can sometimes be too clichéd and melodramatic, which is a damn shame because Wainwright can most certainly do better than that. Expand
