Luigi’s Mansion is a must play if you’ve never enjoyed it before. If you still own the GameCube version, there really isn’t enough here to warrant a new purchase unless you need the slightly updated visuals and ability to take it on the road. I personally believe this game, like it’s 2013 sequel, Dark Moon, is better suited for a home console experience – and fortunately, we’ll all be enjoying Luigi’s Mansion 3 on the Nintendo Switch when it launches in 2019.

If you've never adventured with Mario's lankier brother throughout his haunted mansion exploits, Luigi's Mansion 3DS is absolutely worth the price of admission.

Luigi’s Mansion for the Nintendo 3DS is an overall decent port of the original. The fact that Grezzo worked on it guarantees that the final product is respectful towards what the original developers made seventeen years ago. Many new additions and improvements, alongside the fact that the 3D effect is giving us the impression of a 17-year old definitive edition are more than enough for newcomers to the series to give it a shot, yet might fail veteran players who have tried everything the game could give and are expecting something entirely new.

Once again, Grezzo shows that making remakes is his thing. It may not have been as successful as in other cases, but the adaptation of the GameCube classic to 3DS is quite remarkable. Despite the failures of the control system, it's still just as fun and entertaining, even a little more than the original thanks to the additions.

Short but sweet perfectly sums up Luigi's haunted quest. Very little has changed in the transition from GameCube to 3DS, except for slightly inferior visuals and way worse controls...unless using the Circle Pad Pro. With the added benefit of the attachment, Luigi's Mansion plays exceptionally well, and is an enjoyable, if easy, romp through the spooky mansion that really kicked off Luigi's gaming career.

Luigi’s Mansion remains the classic it always was, but it’s little more than 3DS life-support.

If you really really loved the original, or feel you missed out on a bit of history not playing it at the time, then this game will have something for you. Ultimately this version of Luigi’s Mansion would be better off being left in the time capsule it was pulled out of.

Controlling the flashlight is a nightmare with the D-pad, and the multiplayer mode, at least from my experience, suffers from vicious lag. I still recommend this game, even with the technical issues, but you would do better with the original GameCube classic. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

What should be a good game is held back by frustratingly bad controls and a lack of reliable fast-travel throughout the sprawling map. IfWhat should be a good game is held back by frustratingly bad controls and a lack of reliable fast-travel throughout the sprawling map. If Grezzo and Nintendo had added more quality-of-life features from the vastly superior Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (a very good game which you should play), we'd have a great remake of a GameCube classic. Instead, we're stuck with a sluggish, plodding, meandering slog that meanders among needless backtracking, unclear goals, and getting grips with Luigi's cowardice. Expand
