Slick, polished and surprisingly varied for a movie tie-in, this is one piece of blockbuster merchandise that's worth checking out. Just don't buy it for an easily aggravated child. [Oct 2006, p.94]
  2. Compared to so many other movie-inspired games, Cars for the Nintendo DS is genuinely one of the more interesting ones. The care that went into each of the different minigames is impressive. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough of them here to hold a person's attention for very long.
  3. But with even the most thumb-tied tot capable of completing Cars DS in less than five hours, any Pocket Gamer reader is likely to end up feeling pretty shortchanged.
  4. I feel bad giving this game a terrible rating, because it wasn't terrible. It just wasn't really that good, either. If you're a big fan of the movie, it might, maybe, be worth a look, but you'd probably be better served by a full console version.
  5. Cars is an incredibly boring, sometimes frustrating, waste of a good DS cartridge. Do your kid a favor and buy them Mario Kart DS instead. They may scream and holler a bit, but after they compare it to their friend’s copy of Cars they will thank you.

Even the most die hard fans of the movie will probably not enjoy it, and certainly a younger child would get frustrated way too quickly with some of the harder mini games. Given all these factors, I wouldn't recommend Cars (DS) to anyone. Not even for a rental.

Cars is simply a small collection of novelty mini-games with few redeeming features, other than making good use of all the characters from the film.

Not the worst NDS game, but not the best either. Some minigames are pretty frustrating or boring.

Each and every game in here is poorly thought out and awful in it's own way, like this some sort of modern Action 52. The only enjoyable moments are the racing levels and only because the game lets you commit vehicular homicide against your opponent, even then the game still manages to ruin that to with lame stylus pit stop segments. Do yourself a favor and throw this game under a moving car. Expand

I played it and I was so anoyed that it was just some mini games, nothing like the console games.

The mini games were ether way too hard for an 8 year old to figure out, or too dull to be fun. One of them I never learned how to play, and the manual does'int give much info at all, the most worthless manual I had, before mutalating it in a fit of rage. There's a race that ties the minigames together, but it's too basic to be anywher close to even a simple Java phone game from the era. The menu to select a car which is just to pick a minigame has no music, just the sound of crickets. The sound I hear because I'm bored, and hate this game. Theres bary much to ofer, and there's a credit you can see to find out who made this.

It was because of this was why I missed out on those GBA and later DS Cars games, like Cars Race-o-rama is an actual 3d racer that can live up to the console version, with obvious set backs and bottle necking of the ds console.

Overall, just skip this ds game, and play the console games, or if your like me wanting to play these on the go, than get one of the GBA or even Race-O-Rama on ds, it's a real 3d racing game! Same with the GBA ones, aside from the Cars game on GBA just called Cars, that's an isometric port of the game, but has the same story as consoles and pc versions.

We expected it to be just like Cars for PS2. It was not. The graphics SUCKED. The GAMEPLAY SUCKS EVEN MORE. Play boring, too difficult minigames that are dull. I feel so sorry my friend wasted $14.99. If you want a better Cars game, get it for PS2, or PS3. Cars 2 for PS3 is way better. This DS version has nothing to do with racing, And the only "racing" is beating Chick Hicks. Cars 2 for PS3 actually HAS racing in it. Cars he original for PS2 is way better than DS. Nobody has touched that thing in 2 years. Expand
