    GOW IS NOT ABOUT STRATEGY!

    It is impossible to be competitive without serious dough. $$$ = Power, LITERALLY. And Machinezone has done a BRILLIANT job of squeezing every last dollar out of you. Unfortunately, this KILLS the strategy of the game. At the end of the day, GoW is about brute force. This is a P2W game to the max. As you know, in Empire building games you are given an    GOW IS NOT ABOUT STRATEGY!

    It is impossible to be competitive without serious dough. $$$ = Power, LITERALLY. And Machinezone has done a BRILLIANT job of squeezing every last dollar out of you. Unfortunately, this KILLS the strategy of the game. At the end of the day, GoW is about brute force.

    This is a P2W game to the max. As you know, in Empire building games you are given an "Empire" or really, a "city" to build in a territory with other players you compete against. You build stuff, train soldiers, and eventually go out to attack other players. You also have a technology tree to advance on, so you advance in technology as you play the game.

    Sounds good so far, right? Well - here is where it gets crazy.

    Everything takes time. Building takes time, researching takes time, building troops takes time. We all know this is a staple of these Empire building games. However, GoW takes this to the extreme with building times that can go on to absurd amounts of time. We're talking that some techs could take as long as a YEAR - 365 days to complete. That means that if you are a free player. it will take years to complete one portion of the tech tree, while someone who cashed would complete it INSTANTLY through purchased boosts. I dont know exactly how much time you would have to put in to complete the tech tree, but its got to be over 10 years of time for totals.

    And it gets worse.

    Everything that you build increases your power. Power is a measure of just that - how strong you are. So, Machinezone had the great idea of creating a literal "Power" score that every player has. That power score is displayed once you select that player. This takes out the guessing game of how strong a player is, and once again like I said previously - the game becomes more about who has the bigger guns. Plain and simple. And of course there are leaderboards for people who have the most power.

    So, want to be the best? You'll be competing with crazy nuts out there that are dropping thousands upon thousands of dollars to increase their power. You must constantly spend more money to stay competitive, as power continuously grows. This is the essence of the game - increasing your power.

    So, since its advertised freely, there is not a huge need to scout someone when you know that if they have double your power, you shouldnt even consider them. There is NO LIMIT to the amount of power a player can accumulate. No troop limit. That means that you will have players that have been playing for weeks or months with maybe 200,000 troops, and then serious cashers that have TENS OF MILLIONS of troops. These are HUGE power disparities. You have single players that are more powerful than entire alliances. And once you reach a certain level of power, the only thing that is going to stop a player that powerful would be a full march from an alliance which is difficult in itself to coordinate.

    But it gets even worse. Shields that protect you from being attacked are available and relatively cheap for someone who pays. That means that if you have the money, you can easily prevent yourself from being attacked. This completely RUINS the game and breaks it. Basically, you can pop this shield anytime you want for a small fee. You can then break it and initiate combat anytime you feel like it. This makes the game really stale and ultimately, really boring as half the players are shielded all the time. The other players are too small for you to care about. BORING.

    This basically leads players that have the money to stay shielded as long as they are AFK or not wanting to fight, and initiating fights on players whenever they feel like it. Teleports are also really cheap, so you have these mobile forces able to teleport anywhere they want on the empire map. Again, where is the strategy?

    That is the sad fact of this game. GoW does have cool features, like heroes, a large tech tree, but these are negated by the fact of the amount of money that you have to throw at the game in order to be competitive. This is all a power game. Literally. It's shameful. I totally can see players spending over $10,000 on this game. The stories of people spending $30k+ are entirely true.

    Stay away. GoW is very polished, but at the end of the day its one of the biggest money sinks you possibly find. Its just unbelievable. As an experiment I coughed up the cash but no more. it's ridiculous and not worth your money.    … Expand

Some people have spent upwards of $30,000 on one account alone. So now that you have a little back story. They refuse to do anything about it or compensate others who have paid real money for their accounts. Now these players are using their unfair advantage to make those accounts that were paid for legitimately useless. Surely MZ is happy anout this thinking, "oh good the spenders will need to spend more money to catch up." They are greedy and the game is far too glitchy, with zero support from them.     This game is very addicting before you know it it takes over your personal activities time and money. But the worst part is how game developers try their hardest to manipulate our feeble little minds to spend on the game. Please stay away from this game at all cost

    The primary goal is to attain Level 4 troops, and this can really only realistically be done by spending HUNDREDS of REAL DOLLARS!!!! Stronghold 21 means nothing, once you get that you need to upgrade the ACADEMY to 21, and that means upgrading many researches to 10 (many months if not years without purchased speedups)    This is a ridiculously overpriced game with true costs hidden.

    The primary goal is to attain Level 4 troops, and this can really only realistically be done by spending HUNDREDS of REAL DOLLARS!!!!

    Stronghold 21 means nothing, once you get that you need to upgrade the ACADEMY to 21, and that means upgrading many researches to 10 (many months if not years without purchased speedups) and, even worse, upgrading ALTAR, PRISON and HALL OF WAR to level 21. Those upgrades are called the "money builds" and you can bet that that is what you'll have to spend. REAL $$$.

    After investing so much time in the game, to have these roadblocks slammed down in front of you is really discouraging. Hopefully these reviews here can let people know what they're in for once they start down this road.

    Seriously though, this game is crap. The only reason that they could advertise on NHL and NFL is because they literally have hundreds of stupid, insane, lifeless morons who pay $30k+ to stay in power. It's not because it's epic, like the Total War franchise, or amazing, like Skyrim, but it's purely because they have those insane maniacs who pay them heaps of dough. I hope God grants MZ mercy when they all drop dead, because I'm sure they're gonna get one heck of a beating in hell for the network of lies (*ahem!* ads), trickery, and scandal they squeezed into this game. This, like the Axact fake college scam, is a direct example of corporate insanity, and a strong piece of evidence that corporations aren't as helpful as they may seem. Hell, they could prove to be a dagger in your back if they become too powerful. It's also an example of why you should never trust the critics' reviews, because with all the money MZ's getting, they probably bribed one or two into writing a good review.

    Ignore the ads. Stay away from this game. Don't pay MZ a penny, or a loony, or whatever one cent is in your country. Believe me, the demons who created this game deserve less than that.

    Another penny-squeezing mobile game that gets all it's sales from non-gamers that don't know what they want and sexual advertising. People need to realize that there are literally hundreds of games exactly like this. It's cool how it immediately throws you into an alliance so yo can talk to other people about how *****y the game is. Can't believe the critic reviews are as high as they are.

    No skill is required, to gain power you have one option, spend money and lots of it. If you don’t spend money then you will just be attacked for resources continually by those that do. I would not recommend this game for anyone, much better quality games to play, cheaper too.

    Oh, it also crashes a lot. They will blame you, but you'll note that everyone has the same issues. With 700k a day you could assume they could spend some on upgrading their crap servers.    … Expand

    Game is ok for the first 2 days, then you have to pay to gain and win. The game is good for 13-17 year old virgins, and women with no life. Game is extremely slow and boring. The game is also good for people with lots of money to blow in life with no gaming skill.

    The game play is monotonous if you're not spending cash, as the upgrading slows to a trickle (upgrades can take literally days), unless you're paying for their 'gold' coins which will enable speeding up the process. Similarly, any "give back" from the game in terms of rewards Ala the chest on the main screen or the 'gold temples' is dismal (1 minute speed up's LOL or 1 gold coin for 15 minutes of keeping your troops encamped at the temple).
    This was their biggest missed opportunity to create the WAR that the game lacks, Kingdoms fighting over gold bearing temples so that their realms may progress.
    Instead, it's a question of who has the largest wallet and they will become the victor!    … Expand

    Great game as long as you don't need support, customers services is non existent. Stay away until that gets better. Don't believe them when they cry about it being a free to play game, just watch the amount of money being spent in game, they could support the game if they chose to.

    Customer service is null and void. All they want is $$ unless you are a single millionaire dont bother. I am sure there are better games out there. Played for almost a year and lately lots of glitches, that cost the player gold and troop and Machine Zone says oh well, we are sorry but we cant help you. I lost 100K gold on their glitch got an oh well then ignored. STAY AWAY

    My account was inaccessible for about two weeks, and it would have remained so if I hadn't sent about a dozen e-mails to support. Their replies were laughable, and I don't understand what sort of record they keep of things, because every time you e-mail them, you have to send the whole story again, plus all the replies you've received, or they'll just give you the same generic answer.

    What is truly insulting is that after all this, they insist it was I that requested my current account be deleted, when that was never the case.

    In other news, while I couldn't access my account, troops got decimated, wall traps too, the hero was killed (you do not want this to happen), etc.

    On other aspects of the game: it is tedious, because buildings and research can take weeks or months to complete. The game deceives you into thinking you are getting a lot of items from it, but the truth is to use any significant amount of them (eg resources) you have to sometimes, literally, click hundreds of times; also, the difficulty of quests has increased so much in the past few months, that completing any is near impossible, and even if you do, the rewards have also become laughable.

    I don't recommend this game at all. Don't waste your time or your money.    … Expand

    The game crashes 80% of the time when I go to the map screen. Some of the basics of getting around are made much more difficult than needed. When people have to ask in chat how to change their empire name, you know the game isn't user friendly. It is also to easy pray on noobs and pound them to death, which means they usually give up pretty fast

    This game is dumb. You could buy a PS3 with what it takes to make it to SH21 and then buy a real war game. I quit playing this a few months ago as it was costing me about $500.00 or so a month to stay in the top 200 of one kingdom. It takes 100 to level up a mill or two, which can also be taken away by someone else in seconds.

    Don't waste your money and time.

The events and quest were manageable in the beginning but eventually they became so NEEDY you have to baby sit this game. Also, you will never beat the players who spend huge amounts of money on in game purchases.

    Here is the progression for a new kingdom. Hardcores resource    Fun at first. Eventually became tied to my device, if you are not CONSTANTLY on this game you could lose it all. The events and quest were manageable in the beginning but eventually they became so NEEDY you have to baby sit this game. Also, you will never beat the players who spend huge amounts of money on in game purchases.

    Here is the progression for a new kingdom. Hardcores resource load level 5s from an older kingdom and when a new kingdom opens up they port in and have a huge advantage over those who either; dont do the same or don't spend money. So you are left being out on your pounded on all the time or a leach begging for scraps from those who own the kingdom. It is plain and simple, you are either a BULLY or the BULLIED in this game.

    Oh and if you have an in game issue, don't even bother contacting customer support my experience has shown they are not even willing to do what would be consider basic support by most games.    … Expand

    Game by itself is awsome, but if you're not going to spend money on this game, you better just stay away from it. For maximum level buildings you MUST spend plenty of money (I'm talking about few 100$), just to get item that allows you to upgrade buildings to level 21.
    Expect other players to spent tons of money just to max them out when new kindom comes. It normally take half of year    Game by itself is awsome, but if you're not going to spend money on this game, you better just stay away from it. For maximum level buildings you MUST spend plenty of money (I'm talking about few 100$), just to get item that allows you to upgrade buildings to level 21.

    I have LVL 21 academy to get T4 troops doing LVL 10 troop defense will take 477 days with out help and speeding real money.

    The developer of this game is using a Trojan tactic to forcefully redirect the Facebook app on iOS to the game's page in the App Store.

    This is clearly unacceptable and should earn the game a rating of 0. I would strongly recommend anyone experiencing this malicious behaviour, or reading this review, to give the game a 0 score.

OK, you like the game, the chat (a plus point), you're patient and you have some spare cash - so why not? Simple: because if something goes wrong with your account you will get no support. I encourage readers to read all of the reviews here - you will see this is a recurring theme which MZ have not yet addressed. I know because I can no longer play the account I invested heavily in to build. Mug! :-(

    If I was cynical, I would say that a lot of the latest in-game developments are aimed at trying to draw more money from the gamers. There's lots of new material appearing which you can use to craft "cool" gear. If you can collect enough pieces to be able to combine to high enough level to make it worth while. Just as you're getting there, they introduce something else meaning the components you need are no longer available - unless you buy them, that is.
    Another recent development is the Alliance City. So far, it has no benefit (that's work in progress, apparently) but - you guessed it! - it's very expensive to build. No problem - you can buy another resource pack!

    In short: If you want to make progress, be prepared to spend lots - and be prepared to lose it all. You have been warned.    … Expand

I was willing to buy packs but they been making the packs much more expensive, & oddly it takes $100 to grow at least 2-3M in power & it took me a while to naturally grow. The game is addicting because it taps into some human element about power acquisition. eg., "I just need to complete a few more tasks to get these materials to get better weapons" or "I just need to upgrade this buildings so I can build more troops".

    The funniest thing about the game is there is very little actual fighting given how long it takes and how expensive it is to building your empire. If you start attacking people your inbox will fill with people complaining. I often joked that the game should be called, "complaining about war".

    I know a lot of guys who like the game but that is because they like the fun of hanging and chatting in a powerful alliance. They rarely fight. It is simply too expensive to do so. If you are not prepared to spend a lot of money then find a different game. The wait times for key items is in the 100s of days. So without buying speedups you will never get them. And the guys who do buy them will simply run over you. While there is no real fighting, the big players will simply run over the small players on a daily basis for fun.    … Expand

You're expected to spend hundreds of thousands in gold to earn pennies back. They have a casino and casino chips which once upon a time were fun, and worth doing events for. Now on the rare occasion you get an event, they make sure you can't get back your value by changing the casino to "research" or "crafting" casinos and take away the ability to make gold and win chips. GOW is now Game of research. It's boring and a waste of time and money. Even crafting items is a cheat. upon doing research I've discovered their odds are skewed. If you have an 80% chance to craft a legendary item, the odds are actually under 50%. The reality is all they want is your money. They don't give back. They need money to pay Kate Upton for another 1 million dollar super bowl spot so they can try to go public with MZ. They are professional thieves and have no shame in being this way. It is addicting to play because you always have the false illusion that you will get somewhere when in reality you have no chance. Game of war is now game of research and money. It's a waste of time and resources, and you are expected to buy. So trust someone who is an original and used to love this game. Skip by it, and play a Gabe where developers actually reward you for participating. Athena is a whore, and all she wants is your hard earned money. Do yourself a favor, and pass on this loser. Oh, and I loved the classic bait and switch - when you start out there are good packs available for $5, which quickly refresh at $22 and then $119.

    Could have been a good game, but there's no strategy to it other than brute dollar force. You're going nowhere unless you drop at least a couple hundred on it, and even then you'll be a mediocre account at best.    … Expand

    After the battle (and the tile being hit) i had 50k in troops... and then I only had 20k the following day. ???? My troops were in my city! So... HOW DID I LOOSE MY TROOPS! I spent money on this game... used my speedups and gold to build those troops... SO How is it that "[MZ] doesn't have any record of the troops lost". Also I didn't ask for a count of what i currently have. I can see that on my own... and the only reason it has increased slightly is because i have been slowly building them up?     Hello Gloria, What I sent to rally was the 20k in troops that i referred to in my email. I am still missing 30k in troops. As I said before I had about 100k in troops. I sent about 50k to a resource tile and was hit. I lost all those troops. I still had 50k in my city. However, when i logged on the other day it only showed my 20k (19,526) I sent them in to rally to protect them, but i am still missing about 30k in troops... that just Disappeared! There were no reports indicating how those 30k in troops were lost or whatever! Is there anyway to see the log of my troops history?

I made it to 16 million, but now down to 10 million. In my kingdom there are kill events every Tuesday besides the kingdom vs kingdom kill events every week, and before the kvk's the big guys in the kingdom have a purge, soBeen playing well over a year, not spent to much maybe $80 total. They NEVER admit that the game might have glitched even though there is ample evidence every minute you play of messages to the server and back getting delayed and more. They just came out with new terms and conditions that are onerous and clearly slanted very much against the game player.     To really play and be able to battle - expect to invest $10,000.00 - yes - USD $10,000.00 and then to keep investing about $300/week to remain competitive. What's worse, the game has many, many technical issues. Time lags and constant crashes make it nearly impossible to play let alone do battle. In a game where seconds are critical, the time lags and constant game crashes are extremelyTo really play and be able to battle - expect to invest $10,000.00 - yes - USD $10,000.00 and then to keep investing about $300/week to remain competitive. What's worse, the game has many, many technical issues. Time lags and constant crashes make it nearly impossible to play let alone do battle. In a game where seconds are critical, the time lags and constant game crashes are extremely frustrating. The game literally crashes about once every 7 minutes. The time lags are universal - that is they occur regardless of where the player is geographically located or which ISP is used. GOW also gets corrupted easily and then fails to load - requiring the user to delete the game and reinstall - on average about once a week. To make matters worse, Machine Zone has the WORST technical support that I've ever encountered - and I've been in product marketing in high tech industry for 25 years. They take a minimum of 10 days to respond to support request emails - and then be prepared to get and email stating "oops - this is embarassing - we didn't get all of your email" as a response. They do not reimburse players for troops or resources lost which are 100% due to the technical issues within the game - which has literally cost me thousands of dollars. I have spent $7,600 on this game and refuse to spend another penny on it. Machine Zone is extremely greedy and does not care about their customers.     I was wrong. Some of my major issues with this game:
    * The more money you spend the worse the deals get( isn't that backwards?)
    * Spending money is a necessity to reach an average power level or above in a kingdom( realm/server). Do not believe people who say they have reached more than a billion power without spending money, it is a lie and not possible unless you play for years( the oldest servers are just under 3 years i believe). Here is why:
    - The amount of resources and silver required to do anything that gives power gains gets ridiculously high. Masteries cost millions of silver quickly. Silver is almost as rare as gold. It is hard to get in large quantities and you will stop producing silver at a low capacity. So you have to take the rest from other players, buy it, or attempt to farm it. Buying it with gold is the only way to get a reasonable amount in a reasonable time unless you are huge.
    - Researches and buildings will take millions of resources at each level. Though you dont stop producing at as low of level as silver you will quickly find you need more than you can actively produce from your buildings. Thus you are forced to farm it( which is slow), steal it from players( which is slower than farming unless you are already a huge player), or buy it.
    - Lets say you are about half way through the mastery and research trees and all your buildings are level 10 or higher. Masteries at this point with take days at least, weeks commonly and months are not rare. So far , half way through the mastery tree, ive had masteries that take over 200 days without boosts. Researches at this point can vary from about half a day to 3 months. Buildings take about 6 hours to a few days at this point. And im only half way. You can only do one mastery, one research, and one building at a time. Just to do a few of each at higher levels will take years not boosted. So the only way to get anywhere in reasonable time frame is to buy and use speedups.
    -Resources are vital to growing. Your storehouse at max level will only hold 2 million of each. You will need in the hundreds of millions and billions of resources to do various things once deeper in the game. The only way to protect your resources is to use peace shields. A 3 day piece shield with gold at a normal price is about $15. A 30 day peace shield is about $215 at normal gold prices. You can hit resource tiles and world monsters with an active shield, just not other players or tiles they are gathering on. It is possible to farm enough gold to keep buying 3 day shields, however this would take a lot of time and severely hinder your ability to gather resources. So your only choice is to stay shielded constantly. Which at the cheapest rate will cost you about $125 a month.
    - When you are attacked you will probably lose many of your troops and traps and maybe your hero. Wounded troops cost a decent amount of resources to make usable again. New troops and traps can take months to build back up without speed ups. If your hero is captured it will severely cripple you at higher level. If your hero is executed it will cost you about $40 at normal gold prices to get it back with a loss to xp.
    Many building require special items in quantity, you might get lucky and be able to get a few of these here and there through gifts and such but it will take you a very long time to get enough to build the buildings this way. All buildings require a special item for the last level that cost 2000 gold( about $12) per building. You cannot level your academy to 21 and thus finish many researches until you have about a dozen certain buildings to 21 including a few of the buildings that require special items to build.

    *If you do not keep a peace shield up in this game( and most alliances require you to have a constant peace shield unless you are actively attacking players) you will be farmed regularly.
    * The large alliances ( top 20) pretty much leach off the kingdom. You are either huge and in one of these or your a farm for them.

    *Conclusion: Don't bother playing this game unless your prepared to spend $100 a month or more. You wont get very far. Honestly i would pass this game up. With what you need to spend on this game to be competitive you could buy a new good computer and subscribe to a game and get a lot more for a lot less. Or you could buy dozens of traditional games a year for the same amount and get many many more hours of play time. This game is not a good value. It is designed solely to drain you of money and has very little entertainment value. Its mostly a grind with a lot of waiting. And it is definitely pay(dearly) to win.    … Expand

    Up until level 20 game play becomes something that is nearly impossible without added gold. You need to buy gold to buy things like shackles, war bonds, picks, etc.. special things needed to upgrade buildings. Additionally the time to build starts going through the roof after level 15. If one were to try to fully build out their city to level 20 buildings sans boosts, which cost gold or come in packs which cost $$$. Then one could easily spend a couple of years on waiting on the build times.

    At level 20 the build times really start to go through the roof. The time to build a lvl 20 vila to level 21 is on the order of 25 days!!!

    Additionally no great game doesn't have a research tree. So at level twenty one can also expect research times to be through the roof such as Trap Defense lvl 9 >40 days!!!

    While on the subject of research trees. Lets talk about the taking of tedium to the Nth power by having >10 separate research trees. But you can only research one of these separate trees at a time.

    Tedium has arisen in the form of art in the structure of this game in that you don't just have troops. You have strategic troops and regular troops and you only have one barracks from which both spring forth. They are on different tabs but you can only train one category at a time and the there is no training queue.

    Crafting is an essential part of a lot of games. The makers of this game have taken the art form of Tedium that was brutishly distilled in the troops and refined it to a chunk of the purest and most toxic of tedium. First lets start with the materials used to craft. You have Cores, Pieces, Gems, Special Gems and Materials. If you buy a pack and it contains any trunks with Cores and Pieces beware. When you open those trunks they will flood into the core and pieces inventories which are limited in size. They are limited in size. These inventories are limited in size so that you have you again use gold to swap cores and pieces in and out of accessible inventory in order to use them. But wait you tell me, didn't I just pay for those pieces and cores and then I have to pay again in order to use them? Yep that's right! Not only did they refine tedium but they have also added a pinch of fraud into the mix.

    A lot has been said about how some players, apparently way too many of them have spent thousands of dollars in the game. What they also do not tell you is that any level player can attack any level of player. So the guy with 5 billion of power can repeatedly swoop in and trash all of your troops, traps, kidnap and murder your hero and take all of your resources, even if you are only 5 million in power. The only fix for this is to stay protected (bubbled). This of course costs gold which costs $. The point of this is stay bubbled you will get rolled again and again. The game is an exercise in credit card fueled bullying and anarchy.

    Lag Lag Lag - Did I say lag? Oh yes the game is plagued with lag and this lag can effect the balances of your gold and the things bought with gold and not in your favor. For instance I have seen this several times personally. It is possible to teleport ones city to another location. The lag can be so tremendous at times that it will appear as if your teleport didn't function. What actually did not function was that the database on the server hasn't updated and the graphics and database will still indicate that you are in the old position. So you do it again, again , again... Finally your city moves and you go to move again and where did all of the teleport that I paid for go?!?!?

    Going back to the topic of tedium and those wonderful chests full of goodies. You can end up with thousands of chests and each and every one of them will require you to tap on a "Use" button followed by another pop-up dialogue box that you have to close by tapping the X. When lagging this process can take from 15 to 30 seconds per chest. If you're not easily bored then this slow going tedium of opening chests is for you. There are only two work arounds that I know of and one of them I cannot confirm. Supposedly according to the customer support staff there is when I get to some certain point the availability of a button that will open all of the chests at once. I am betting that it is going to cost gold. The other is tap up to 3 chests quickly and in succession.

    My husband and I began playing this "free" game 2 years ago. We had previously played a very similar game. We got out of that game after spending too much money and going through too many arguments, and we vowed to never get tangled in something like that again.
    We quickly learned that it's really a "pay to advance" game, as the only way you can enjoy the game is by purchasing packs which have resources, gold, speed ups and materials which are used to make gear for your hero to wear and give it special talents and abilities. Examples of such gear would be construction gear to lower the amount of time it takes to upgrade a building and research gear which cuts time off your research projects.

    There will always be someone bigger than you, someone willing to spend more. Skill comes into play during Kill Events, to an extent. If you want to take another kingdoms "wonder" and be the rally leader you do Need to be quick, thorough, and have spent the cash to craft cores which is special gear for your hero. With that said, you need to have completed the associated research in order to use these cores as well as research to enable you to send the maximum amount of troops in your rally (an attack March coordinated with several alliance members). If you are not rallying the wonder and instead are rallying another players city (called a stronghold, or SH for short) there's less skill involved, but the same amount of money needs to be spent for your research, cores, March speeds, etc.

    MZ is constantly coming out with new hero gear, cores, and packages. That's the key word there... Packages. The packages are $100US and are 100% necessary if you want to actually get anywhere in the game. The reason they are necessary is because the research projects in the game can be thousands of days to complete ONE and there could be over a dozen in each tree. Yes, there are several research trees you must complete if you want to stand a chance in this game. To give you an example, the last tree MZ came out with was called Wild Troops. This is the 3rd category of troops and there are 4 different types in each category. Originally MZ only had 1 category, called t1-t4. Then they decided to come out with something called "strategic" troops to counter the "regular" ones. Now the wild troops are supposed to counter the strategic troops. See MZ's thought process? Just keep scheming, I mean dreaming up new troops to make you spend money. So... there were probably over 20 different types of research in this tree, each of which make you research 10 different levels in order to max the research. Well 9 of these researches cost between 9,500 up to over 11,000 days EACH just to go from level 9 to level 10. Now this isn't taking into consideration the amount of packages you will need to buy in order to get the materials you need in order to craft hero gear to help with these researches. After all this, just the other day MZ decided to release MORE research, now increasing the level of March research from 10 to now level 12 in order to max.

    What does this have to do with you spending and the amount you need to spend to stay competitive? Well let me give you my husband as an example. He's spent over $40,000 since he started. Yes, FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. That was BEFORE he decided he wanted to finish all his research. He made this bright decision the last week of November. Would you like to know how much he's spent in 2 months? Over $7000... That's OVER SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS, and that's all I know about. The last few nights he's been spending between $500-700 per night, topping at a bit over a $1000 one night.

    I've asked him to please stop and make a decision which is more important, me or the game. I guess you can figure out his decision based on my name.

    THIS GAME WILL RUIN YOU, RUIN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS, RUIN YOUR LIFE. Its nothing more than a money grab, something MZ tried to hide in the early days but now flaunts while laughing in your face. It's set up to make even the meekest of competitors spend their money, because the guarantee is the more you spend, the more powerful you will be.

    Been playing this for 6 months now, level 21 SH, 60m power etc, timers are now ridiculously long and unless you're prepared to spend big the game has come to an absolute standstill! Had two weeks off whilst on holiday and to be perfectly honest i felt relief that I'd disowned it, I'm just about to log out for last time and let whoever pillage my account, I'm outa there!

Unfortunately, you come under the thumb of a huge bully alliance that dictates their own rules as to what resources you can farm and when you can do it under the threat of attack which largely prevents other players from progressing in the game. The game makers need to address this issue.

Someone else on here explained it very well about playing the inferno events. But there is also the kingdom event and solo event. An like he said you can build up your gold without buying a thing

    As for the gameplay, I would say the unique feature of this game is the existence of many alliances. The alliance structure is quite different from the notion of clan in clash of clans. Here you're city is usually location, physically, in the alliance hub (although not necessarily). On the world map, you can see many hives belonging to different alliances. I like this feature overall, esp. given the chat mechanism and the types of people who are on chat channels. They are usually really protective of the alliance members and consider each other "family". Lot's of love and hearts going on. Which is nice.
    However, the biggest problem with this game is that there is almost no way for a beginner to enjoy the game. The upgrade times get really long at higher levels, resource production is slow, and you are under constant siege from much much stronger cities. I had 100k troops and 100k traps and then a 325k army would attack and destroy everything and lose almost nothing (maybe 100 soldiers). It was ridiculous. Then there is the hero capturing and execution. Your alliance might kick you out if you get your hero executed several times. The only easy way to win is of course to spend money but you have to spend a lot of it.
    Finally, I hated the concept of gifts in the game. They sound ridiculous and are a waste of time.    … Expand

All you do is wait for inferno solo events that pay out 100 thousand gold.I made the investment of spending about 60-80k gold on speedups and sped up researches and in the end won the 100k gold inferno prize.     GOW is a decent game. You must spend a lot of money to be very competitive on a large scale...or .you can get by on a smaller scale as a trap if you are very conservative.

    Outside of the game, Machine Zone has the absolute worst customer service in the world. If I didn't already have thousands invested in this game I wouldn't continue and I would highly recommend others not to begin    GOW is a decent game. Even some of the largest companies know the value of treating customers well. My rating of game of war is based on the way Machine Zone treats customers (poor response to questions and complaints is an example). You go....no biggie. Then you never see that again!!! Its 99.99 or you dont get supplies.....Eventually you hit that wall and start eyeballing that 99.99 pack with allll those goodies. Then you go.....ah, what the hell...Just once. But its not just once. The holiday comes up, they have super deals so you stock up and buy 2 or 3.....Now the flood gates have opened....You are in for the long haul.....No matter how much you try to get caught up, they keep creating more NEEDS so you keep chasing to get stronger and stronger and you need more and more money. Im fairly well off, but only the wealthiest people can thrive. Now they have research that starts at 13,000+ days. And no thats not a typo. The research cost on average 125.00 per increment and there can be as many as 20 at that price. The greed seems to just ooze from their pores...There is a remedy....its simple....just stay away. Then you are put in the middle with Amazon saying they sent the purchase to MZ so you must talk to them. Call MZDO NOT USE WITH ANY GAME SPONSORED BY MACHINE ZONE. i.e: Game of War or Mobile Strike. Game mechanics are horrible. I saw an enemy port next to my rss tile I was farming. I immediately hit "go home" yet I lost 93% of my troops (204,864 killed). It will take 4 months to replace them. Email MZ with a problem, they email you back restating the problem you just described, email back they restate your original complaint again and say thank you warrior. I've spent over 10K on this game and things have not changed, not to mention that it TAKES an additional 5 to 10K a year to stay relevant, it's a game for the super wealthy or those who are totally fiscally irresponsible. Once you max out everything they add something new increasing the max again and yeah it's expensive. As a result fo my experience with GOW I will never spend another cent with MZ or any affiliate they own or anyone they collaborate or partner with. They are greedy beyond measure and it's starting to catch up with them, as I know many trillion power players that have walked away in disgust this year. I have been playing game of war fire age, for around 4 years now.I had enjoyed playing in my spare time and I also had a few friends playing as well.But over a very small period of time I found myself spending insane amounts of money on the CONSANT upgrades they come out with.They have designed there in app purchases to drain your wallet to progress in game, constantly giving you 50% 80% deals to start out making you believe your getting a great deal? I personally,and I am really embarrassed to admit, had spent over 3 thousand dollars in my time playing??Never been addicted to a game like it? Wouldn't recommend to my worse enemy....Recently dropped my gear and allowed kingdom to zero my account 900bill power,33bill troops...This game has the potential to ruin families,relationships, and pocket book lol… Expand

If you're not ready to spend hundreds on upgrades and troops, you cannot possibly keep up. The first time your shields fail, you will be consumed and have to begin again. Now I am bored of them both... I just spent $1000usd... And I feel lucky to be out of their nails! Beware that today´'s market is all about fast peace change all the phone games are evoluving towards. AS HAS BEING EXPOSED it just began with $4.99 and ended up on the $99.99... sounds stupid but a LOT of people pay it! I DID IT!… Expand

    Game of War: Fire Age takes some important steps toward something truly revolutionary, but it lacks the gameplay advances to make it all the way there. It's likely to appeal to the same players who enjoyed the games that preceded it, yet it feels like a missed opportunity for everyone else.
