    It's a shame that this engrossing title has a glitchy, unreliable save function, a huge drawback on a device known for constant interruptions. Still, for a marathon gaming session on a long train ride, The Simpsons Arcade is far more "Woo-hoo!" than "D'oh!"

    The animation is top-notch, there are some nice little minigames and events to break up the beat-'em-up action, and the controls are quite good. But Simpsons Arcade didn't have to be a trifle. With some multiplayer and extra playable characters, it could have had real staying power.

    The arcade game has more variety and you can play as Marge, Bart, and Lisa, in addition to Homer.

    Good fun, but it's short-lived in the extreme. While £2.99 might not seem much, other App Store games offer far better value for money, making it feel like you're paying a slight premium for the license.

    The Simpsons Arcade is a decent side-scrolling brawler, but there's no getting around the fact that it is sorely limited by having only one playable character and no multiplayer options to speak of.
