An amazing leap from NHL 23, NHL 24 boldly advances the series via new physics, presentation and overall gameplay. A must-buy for any next-gen ice-hockey aficionado.
Exhaust system is great. Defender is so much more fun. Goalies are way better, best NHL game I have played in a long time, it’s so much easier to do dekes which is more realistic and bug fixes.
EA Sports NHL 24 scratches the itch for a solid hockey title. There are significant improvements over last year’s title, but replayability, as always is up in the air for sports titles.
Regardless of the mediocre upgrades to NHL 24’s game modes, I must admit, the on-ice action is a big step forward for the franchise. The new hitting and passing systems need work, but the changes in how momentum affects the moment-to-moment gameplay have injected new life into the series. At the end of the day, I find myself wanting to step back out onto the ice. And that’s more than I can say for how I’ve felt over the last several years.
NHL 24 does do some things that make changes to gameplay in a positive way. The checking is improved and going with the Total Control scheme allows for some more simplistic gameplay while netting advanced results. The Exhaust Engine is a nice addition that’s really only achievable to its maximum during power plays as it’s difficult to keep the puck in the offensive zone for two minutes straight, especially with this A.I. being so aggressive and overkill, once again. HUT Moments are the shining mode addition this year, but these classic moments to relive are locked behind HUT thus requiring an internet connection. Otherwise, outside of cross-play for that and CHEL, the rest of the game is mostly untouched and once again feels familiar.
If you don't play the game in online mode, you will cry over the content. There are no new features, so necessary for, for example, Be a Pro mode, still the same animations and dialogues, still the same storyline without flavour. [Issue#332]
Sports games are pretty predictable. From one year to the next, you’ll see one or two sweeping changes and then a number of smaller tweaks, but beyond that, you’ll by and large be playing the same title. By that logic, it’s actually impressive how much EA Vancouver has managed to change this year given how quick its turnaround is from game to game. Less impressive is the implementation of said changes. Selecting your pass targets is a wholly welcome inclusion and a rousing success. The majority of the other changes, particularly the new checking system, leave much to be desired. Why do so many things feel like they took steps backward? Isn’t this kind of problem usually reserved for the dawn of a new generation? What happened?
Meilleurs que NHL 23 mais de moins en moins bon au fil des mise à jour, dommage car de très bonnes idée comme la pression totale mais à croire que EA aime se tirer des balles dans le pied
The review concludes that NHL 24 successfully shakes up the established hockey gaming formula with impactful innovations in gameplay. The Sustained Pressure system and contact-based physics breathe new life into on-ice action. However, issues with Vision Passing, lackluster offline modes, and uninspiring rewards in the battle pass system present notable drawbacks. The game's overall appeal is further hindered by server woes, making NHL 24 a mixed bag of refreshing changes and persistent challenges for hockey gaming enthusiasts.
Generally was pretty hard on the game. Is NHL 24 a bad hockey game? No, not really, it has a lot of fun semi-simulation hockey gameplay with a mostly arcade flavor. The problem really is with the franchise of EA NHL and it's lack of evolution over the past decade. NHL 14 and NHL 24 are almost identical in terms of basic gameplay mechanics, which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but the lack of development and progress of the in game physics, computer controlled elements from players up through coaching and management are virtually unchanged, even regressed in some regards more than any really show of progress. The addition of game modes has been lacking with only a handful of notable game modes outside of franchise/Be a Pro, or EASHL/CHEL hockey modes, such as Three's, but overall anything outside the obnoxiously greedy casino and micro transaction driven EASHL and CHEL modes, the rest of the modes are virtually left abandoned with tiny changes every few years.
Changes to the franchise generally come through the removal of game systems so they can be brought back 2-7 years later as 'new' and the reused assets in offline modes like Threes, franchise, and Be a Pro are painfully obvious after 4-5 years from UI, useless story interactions in Be a Pro, and nearly identical presentations and commentary. My biggest pet peeve of this new annual update to the franchise is the obnoxious over-the-top arcade like presentation of arenas and celebrations that are straight out of the online modes and resemble nothing close to anything I've seen in a real world hockey game. In the ongoing trend of EA Sports games in general, for every step this game makes forward it still takes 5 or more backwards, plus the lack of concern and feedback from EA itself regarding bugs and glitches that have been around for years in each iteration that don't directly affect the online only modes shows all the amount of compa$$ion that the $tudio and producer$ care about this franchise.
If you're coming in cold and want a hockey game, it's fine for $30. If you're a long term abandoned and abused player of the series, it's unfortunately more of the same.
This game doesn't feel like a simulation or an arcade style. It feels unfinished. The load times are unreal. The games are predictable,
You can always tell when the opposition is going to score. The pressure meter is useless. The online community is one of the most toxic in the gaming world.
They changed nothing in the Be A Pro mode and there is STILL no online Franchise mode.
The battle pass is full of useless junk and the creation zone is so painstaking hard to use, there is no point. This will hopefully be the end of EA hockey. Fingers crossed, for a 2k hockey.
