We’ve waited far too long for an Aliens game this good, but it’s finally here. With an exciting campaign, five exciting classes, a dazzling array of weapons, and a staggering array of monsters to use them on, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a perfect organism.

Aside from being a faithful take on the Aliens experience, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is simply a good game. Is it a shot-for-shot adaptation of its source material? Certainly not, but I definitely felt like I was in at least some version of an Aliens world through and through. Its loot and combat only improve with time without asking players to mindlessly grind just to keep progressing. The obvious push towards co-op, as opposed to single-player, may be a bummer to some, but even those who venture into Xenomorph swarms on their own will have plenty to look forward to in Aliens: Fireteam Elite.

Despite what its reduced price might suggest, there's a lot here to keep you entertained for numerous hours, especially once you've managed your first run through all four acts and start tackling them again with higher difficulty settings in the pursuit of consistently better gear. There's so much satisfaction in customizing and managing a handful of classes with enough depth to transform them into the Colonial Marine you need at a given time, along with a plethora of great weapons to make the moment-to-moment action engaging from the first time you pull the trigger. What it lacks in dread it makes up for in pure white-knuckle action, making Aliens: Fireteam Elite a great place to engage with this iconic sci-fi franchise again.

Ultimately, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is more hit than miss. Although it does little to advance the survival shooter genre forward, Cold Iron Studio has done a great job of combining the familiar source material with fun, action-packed combat. The few flaws are merely a minor distraction and don’t mean game over, man!

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a bad Aliens game but a whole bunch of fun. You’ll probably not find anything revolutionary here, but if you want to bellow “Let’s Rock” at friends as a tsunami of Xenomorphs comes at you from all angles, you’ll enjoy every second. Providing you’re not playing alone, with the game’s woeful bots.

I didn’t expect more than a short, fun diversion, but Aliens: Fireteam Elite has the ambitions of a genuine hobby game, and honestly, I think it’s good enough to pull it off.

Wonderfully action-packed multiplayer shooter with plenty of Aliens vibe, it is however only really enjoyable with human players.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a valid cooperative shooter, one where you can just drop in and shoot stuff with glee, or put your coordination and teamplay to the test if you’re looking for a challenge. There are friendly AIs, but they aren’t great and solo play only works at the lower difficulties. Finally, while the game is competent and fun, it also shows its low budget.

Whilst not without its faults, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a satisfying co-op shooter that shows that there's still fun to be had with the Aliens franchise.

A fun and flexible swarm shooter that’s a little too reliant on being played alongside friends.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite would really have been worth recommending if it had been more polished and offered more content. In its current state the game is definitely no Left 4 Dead, but it’s still pretty fun and you can give it a chance as you look out for a new Aliens vs. Predator. [11/2021, p.40]

Overall I found Aliens Fireteam Elite to be a pleasurable experience with only a few hiccups. The graphics are on point, the audio keeps very well planned to keep with the theme and feel over the series.

After the last representative of multiplayer shooting in the Aliens franchise seemed more like a cheap shooting gallery attraction, Aliens: Fireteam Elite gives hope for a fun sci-fi shooter with your friends against hordes of slimy aliens. The sound effects are authentic - especially the recognizable weapons. It offers non-stop action and plenty of material to improve and find. Nevertheless an aha experience sets in for me at some point. I had a lot of fun while testing, but like sexual intercourse, it is unfortunately mostly boring if you do it with yourself. And because I have to play the same missions over and over again, i got bored soon. Nevertheless 40 bucks are still an acceptable price for a few hours of co-op fun in the Aliens universe.

Aliens : Fireteam's gameplay needs to be perfected to really be enjoyed in the long term, but fans of the double-jawed beast can wait with some great story and atmosphere. Let's see where it goes from there.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite has a lack of mission variety, technical issues, bad matchmaking, and a repetitive structure. All of that said, it's still a fun time. I’m off to play some more right now.

At the end of the day, Aliens: Fireteam Elite doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’s a game that clearly knows what it wants to be. It’s not the most sophisticated co-op shooter out there and won’t exactly blow your mind with its uniqueness, but if you want to spend an evening shooting up Xenomorphs alongside friends, it has you covered.

Fireteam Elite doesn’t stray from the horde-heavy, co-op gameplay that's typical of multiplayer shooters, but the newest Alien title is packed with great visuals, smart classes, and great action.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite feels like a generic loot shooter that doesn't manage to capture at all the look and feel of the Aliens franchise. Instead, we are left with a boring, repetitive and buggy game.

Entertaining to play, but light on content and too repetitive in spots, Aliens: Fireteam Elite isn't without its charms. But the purchase price is a little high for what you get.

If Aliens: Fireteam Elite will not turn your life as a player upside down by offering a refreshing formula, the cooperative shooter does all the same with an effective recipe. Nervous, complete and faithful to the cinematographic saga it adapts, the production of Cold Iron Studios will keep you occupied until the next big releases. In other words, if you have enjoyed World War Z or the gameplay of the Gears of War saga, we can only advise you to take up arms and make dozens of Xenomorphs bite the dust.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite does enough right to be plenty worthwhile for a trio of co-op shooter fans who’d rather battle hordes of xenomorphs than the usual zombies. Between the excellent weapons, classes, and enemy types and some wonderful nostalgic hat-tips toward what came before, it's a must-play if you hold any fondness for this series. The caveats, of course, are having to put up with repetitive scenarios and some excruciatingly drawn-out missions. Aliens: Fireteam Elite may not be a triumphant win, but it's far from a game over, man.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is an absolute win if you’re a franchise fan and you stick to the multiplayer; if you’re a solo player and the universe does nothing for you, there’s not much here worth exploring.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a valiant third-person shooter in the titular universe, yet still falls somewhat short. As a bite-sized, mindless action game on the surface, blasting away hordes upon hordes of xenomorphs with the M41A Pulse Rifle is excellent. Trying different classes, abilities, and unlockable weapons help keep gameplay refreshing during your first run. However, Fireteam Elite wants to be replayable and what’s on offer simply isn’t that fun to return to. Formulaic level design and often buggy AI make finishing missions a chore rather than a triumph. Series fans will enjoy the package, but Aliens: Fireteam Elite may struggle to survive against other co-op shooters. “Another glorious day in the Corps…” but not much longer than that.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is extremely fun to play once through with your friends, but when you’re expected to play the same stages multiple times, the gameplay wains on the player. It becomes more tedious than anything because the stages themselves just aren’t that interesting. Playing higher difficulties provides more challenge to your crew, but it gets repetitive. You’re expected to want to do this for more gun customization, but that’s barely interesting. Regardless, I have to admit, shooting down waves of aliens with friends sure is entertaining.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a game of substance that is not lost in frills: ideal for action lovers and for fans of the Alien saga, honored with every detail present in the game. Unfortunately there is a lack of truly original ideas to make him stand out from the mass of third-person shooters.

The weak AI and the poor adherence from other players to Aliens: Fireteam Elite impede that the whole central idea from the game, a co-op shooter from the Aliens franchise, becomes real with its true potential. Even so, and for now, there’s a satisfactory gameplay that stands on the central mechanics of the game, which are enough to keep us interested. Until when we still don’t know.

Its third-person perspective and mission design elements make it feel like a relic from fifteen years ago, though it carries modern trimmings that may please those who love unlocking cosmetics and similar items, even if those parts of the game feel weirdly disconnected from the source material.

There’s no denying that Aliens franchise was (and still is) a great source of inspiration for game designers. But its premise and lore are way too simple for a full-length game, and Fireteam Elite is yet another proof of that. [Issue#256, p.50]

Aliens: Fireteam Elite does no favors to the franchise's reputation in video games. It's a mostly functional, but very repetitive and bland shooter that may only grab the interest of the most hardcore Xeno enthusiasts.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite sits squarely in the middle of other Alien games. There’s certainly worse out there, but there is also much better. It’s an uninspired struggle through a tired gameplay loop that just happens to be slathered in Alien slime and plays like one of the older Gear of Wars.

Like the meh Terminator project before it, if you're really craving something substantial from the Alien IP, you might like to blow apart some creatures here.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a disappointing cooperative horde shooter in every respect. The gameplay is flat and derivative while the story is not interesting enough to keep the player entertained until the end of the campaign. Playing with friends can be fun at times but the Aliens franchise deserves way more.

In the end the impressive, but static, visuals and sound design do a lot to put you into the universe. But, at best Aliens: Fireteam Elite is what you play in the arcade before jumping into the cinema proper.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a disappointment. Even as an avid fan of the franchise, the fun to be had here is limited. Misguided design, hamstrung presentation and painfully repetitive gameplay suck the fun out of what is, on paper, a promising game. I'd love to have had a meaty, cooperative survival game to play with friends, an escalating challenge that gradually expected more of me as a player, with a story more than just serviceable in moving from one mission to the next. This time, I'm only screaming in frustration.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a fun co-op game with a brilliant map and sound design. Cold Iron cleverly spreads the various enemies they have across the campaign, dropping each bomb when it’s needed most; which is good since the game would otherwise feel incredibly stale.
  2. Aug 23, 2021
After 10 hours with the game’s campaign and a few more hours messing around with bots on various difficulty settings, I was happy to move on. Some soldiers may love the look and potential challenge enough to stay on the Endeavor a little longer. But for most, Aliens: Fireteam Elite doesn’t bring enough new ideas to the genre to warrant the $59 entry price.
  3. Aug 23, 2021
It’s been eight years since the disastrous Aliens: Colonial Marines, but its shadow still looms over Aliens: Fireteam Elite. The game presents a solid foundation that manages to surprise in a few respects, but doesn’t quite take the plunge in full. I was hoping this iteration on the Aliens universe would finally be the one unafraid to take risks. But I’ll have to wait for the next attempt to find out if it’s not just a hopeless wish.

Disappointed I8/10 but gotta offset the basement goblins giving it 0's and 3's. I bought the game and read the reviews before launching. Disappointed I thought I'd just play for an hour and return it. Glad I didn't listen to them.

Ended up playing 4 hours straight and had to get off to get some sleep. The whole next day at work it was all I thought about and couldn't wait to get back in. Talked some friends into getting it to play with and they are having a blast as well. Sure there's things that could be improved/balanced/added (I'm sure they will in time), but what it does right far outweighs the bad. And ffs it's 2/3 the price of the average game, I can forgive for cutting a few minor corners.
