    A truly amazing tribute to H.P Lovecraft. [09/2017, p.66]

Conarium may estrange some diehard adventure fans due to its easy puzzles and streamlined mechanics but I believe that everyone can appreciate its gripping story and roaming the untrodden halls of inhuman ruins in pursuit of forbidden wisdom.

Conarium is not a game that’s suitable for those that want constant action or in-your-face jump scares, but for the more cerebrally-inclined it offers an interesting story wrapped up within a slow-paced but visually enticing adventure.

Although it's easy and short, the visual style, the plot, the narrative and the lovecraftian themes make Conarium a very interesting adventure.

Conarium tackles the difficult task of capturing Lovecraft’s ephemeral psychological horrors and, for the most part, pulls it off. Sometimes clumsy, sometimes streamlined, sometimes elegant, Conarium is an effective piece of Lovecraftian fiction that does its best to respect the source material while adapting it to an effective interactive experience.

Conarium’s story is a fine addition to the Lovecraft universe, but doesn’t make for a compelling gaming experience, so only the acclaimed horror author’s devotees will likely find much of interest.

I don’t know much about Lovecraft’s works, so I won’t judge Conarium in relation to his writings.

I really liked the atmosphere in my first steps in the game. I’m not very familiar with horror games, so I got anxious pretty fast. However, as you understand how the game is built, the anxiety soon gets away for the sake of mere curiosity. The ambience keeps on working on you nevertheless in a rather successful way.

The sound and art designs are neat, serving well the game’s purpose. The game mechanics are somehow nonexistent but this is fitting, even though the few interactions you can have might be very sloppy and frustrating sometimes.

The puzzles are welcome but they are sadly redundant, presenting themselves always in the same way. For the greatest part, the best procedure to solve them is to be systematically trying to click on everything you see, in order to get the right information.

For I like trying to find every secrets and for I’m sometimes quite dumb, the game took me some 5h to complete, but I guess one could do it in 3h with a more direct approach. I guess this is not a lot, but I had the game for free. And to be fair, I feel this a very well dosed longevity for such a work, as the atmosphere slowly loses its grasp over the player during the game.

A fairly good game, I enjoyed it overall.

It's alright. There were some pretty cool moments, but overall it's not a very memorable experience.

I was pleasently surprised by Conarium. I kind of expected a run and hide horror game for some reason, which isn't my cup of tea, where what II was pleasently surprised by Conarium. I kind of expected a run and hide horror game for some reason, which isn't my cup of tea, where what I got was a nice HP Lovecraft puzzle/adventure game. It had great atmosphere and a good story. The puzzles for the most part are well done with the exception of two that annoyed me. Overall I would recommend this to fans of HP Lovecraft and fans of puzzle/adventure games. A couple of other things I will mention are that while it doesn't list supporting AMD graphics cards for Linux I had no issues using mine and also it uses a lot less RAM than it has for the requirements. My total system RAM usage was 2.5-3GB while they list 6GB foir the minimums. I'd give the game 7/10.

    Pros:
    - Ran very well, framerate was usually 80+
    - Manual save system
    - Didn't crash once
    - Decent amount of graphics options
    - Great atmosphere
    - Good story

    Cons:
    - The odd graphical glitch such as an area not being lit properly by the flashlight
    - A couple annoying puzzles
    - Some Steam achievments didn't seem to work for me
    - Only seemed to use 1 core of my CPU (1 was at 60% while the rest at less than 20%)

My system used to play this game:

    AMD FX-9590 | 16GB DDR3-2133 | MSI RX 580 8GB Gaming X | Mesa 17.3.6 | Samsung 850 Evo 250GB | Solus 3 | Kernel 4.15.7-60.current | AOC G2460P @1920*1080 144hz
