It is 2020, and global tensions have reached boiling point as the U.S. and North Korea square off in the South China Sea. At stake: a mysterious artifact uncovered by a team of U.S. archeologists. The North Korean government quickly seizes the area, prompting the U.S. to dispatch an elite team of Delta Force operatives on a rescue mission. During the siege the true nature of the artifact quickly emerges, pointing to the existence of an alien presence on Earth, and ultimately the trigger for a massive-scale alien invasion. The battle to save Earth begins as the aliens' flash freeze the tropics into a ghostly-white frozen landscape. As gamers take up arms against the aliens, they will be outfitted with customizable weapons and a high tech Nanosuit, allowing them to adapt their tactics and abilities to a hostile, ever-changing environment and a mysterious enemy. When you get past the stealth-themed missions early on, and move onto missions with full use of tanks, helicopters, rockets, and airstrikes, the tactical gameplay plus the production values turn Crysis into a love letter for military combat.
  2. Crysis is visually stunning, packed with intelligent, thrilling gameplay, and easily one of the greatest shooters ever made.
  3. Top-class graphics, sound and atmosphere - with due modesty: this is the the world's best first-person shooter so far. A game which combines all the virtues of its predecessors: a thrilling story, an open game world, physics simulation and graphics to marvel at.
  4. So, while there are some minor hiccups from time to time, overall the game plays well, it’s fun, and it’s something FPS fans are going to enjoy for a long while.

Crysis pushes the envelope in the graphics department and experiments with some freewheeling gameplay. The end result may not be a perfectly polished game experience, and it might require a monster system to really appreciate, but it's hard to fault a game for pushing so far past the bleeding edge.
  6. Crysis has long been touted as the new standard-bearer among visually compelling shooters, and in that regard, Crysis does not disappoint. When you throw in a nanosuit, nonlinear freedom of movement and an exciting story, Crysis is as good a reason as any to upgrade your computer.
  7. The story is uninspired, but the actual game is a stunner.

    A truly decent technological classic.

When I first got the demo version of that game and ran it — I was in shocked. The graphics in that game looked so realistic and beautiful, that sometimes I used to think that I was in a real movie, and the only difference was - I could control the main actor. Still to this day I think that Crysis was and still being on of those games that other games should be looking up to when comes about graphic thing.

Best shooter I've ever played. And I've played a lot, starting with Wolfenstien 3D, and even before that Dungeons of Daggorath if Best shooter I've ever played. And I've played a lot, starting with Wolfenstien 3D, and even before that Dungeons of Daggorath if you want to consider a really old first person game. I can only play this game on medium detail, I have a low profile case, and as such I don't have the greatest GFX card in the world. I use a ATI Radeon HD 4650. I will say however, on medium, this game looks great compared to most of the titles I have on the XBOX 360, and compared to most of the titles I have on the PC. It plays smooth, and I'm pleased with performance. It only helps to know that when I upgrade my computer a few months from now the game will scale up to it, unlike most of my titles. As far as game play, I don't understand what people really are talking about. This is what keeps me playing this game over 2 years after I have bought it. I love the fact that having a suit with only 4 options gives me so many ways to approach a situation. The enemy AI seems to act appropriately for most of my actions, but there are a few times I have to scratch my head. The plot was fine with me. Off the wall, yes... But gave the game a creepy feel to it, and kind of made the game two separate experiences with the same multitude of options to solve each. Overall, I just found this game fun. I've become kind of immune to the FPS craze, and while I've played games like Modern Warfare 2, and all the Halo games, Crysis is still the pinnacle of fun to me. Giving me the option to run and gun, or stand in the middle of a Korean Base fully cloaked. My one complaint, and it is a complaint in most games, the vehicles drive like cardboard boxes. In fact, the only fun I had was with the tank level, only because it was the only vehicle in the game that drove like it should. I definitely recommend this game. Just don't expect to get the highest settings out of it, but know that the game is fun and very playable at lower settings. Expand

FPS turned up to 11. Superb graphics and gameplay, outstanding score and sound, and terrific polish in all aspects. Great freedom of choice FPS turned up to 11. Superb graphics and gameplay, outstanding score and sound, and terrific polish in all aspects. Great freedom of choice and open environments. Moves PC gaming up a notch; a high-end rig is needed, but that was expected and required to push graphics to the next level. Ridiculous story and steakhead script and voice acting, more campy and funny than scary. Worth your money, but won't make you think or draw you in like Bioshock or HL2. Expand

I don't understand why people love this game so much. I can't say I didn't like it at all, but it doesn't deserve the 8.1 score it has. I canI don't understand why people love this game so much. I can't say I didn't like it at all, but it doesn't deserve the 8.1 score it has. I can agree that graphics were insane for that time (still looks good in 2020), but everything else is quite mediocre. Optimisation is poor, game mechanics are unbalanced, story is boring, game design is bad, shooting mechanics are annoying, AI is dumb. The game seems unfinished. I do not recommend Expand

Some people got so blinded by 'graphics' that they cannot see that it is just an illusion. How can you say there is freedom in this Some people got so blinded by 'graphics' that they cannot see that it is just an illusion. How can you say there is freedom in this game when you're always limited. Who cares how you reach the target when you always have to do it. You can't skip anything, you can't go back. Add a boring story that is not even anything new or creative... The Nanosuit is just a stupid idea - self-healing, self-recharging is even worse than collecting body armor and health kits. Weapon modifications suck, no idea where do you get all the silencers and other addons since you can do it unlimited number of times. After you play it for a while, and continue to do so...for some strange reason, you start to avoid fights whenever you can. Just because it is so boring, absurd, unrealistic and schematic. As for the visual part itself - it is just one big failure. Requirements are way to high for what we get. Some elements look horrible one you start looking for weak points of the game. I highly doubt that the engine is capable of 'drawing' something else than a jungle. So it is useless as well. Great work CryTek - another stupid benchmark, not a game for sure. Expand
